書院通識教育課程「果效為本方針」學生座談會

為配合大學在所有學分課程推行「果效為本方針」及在2012年更改學制,書院通識教育辦公室於2008年11月20日在鄭棟材樓地庫思源館舉行座談會,邀請通識教育委員會學生代表及有興趣的同學出席,以聽取學生對書院通識教育課程理想目標及果效的意見。有關建議有助書院就通識教育課程作檢討及計劃未來的發展路向。

 

College General Education Programme "Outcomes-based Approaches"Sharing Session for Students

To cope with the adoption of "Outcomes-based Approaches"in all credit-bearing programmes of the University and the change of curriculum in 2012, the College General Education Office has organized a sharing session for students on 20 November 2008 at Si Yuan Amenities Centre, T C Cheng Building.  Student representatives of the Committee on General Education and interested students were invited to share their views on ideal objectives and desirable learning outcomes of the College General Education Programme.  The ideas were helpful in the review and future development of the College General Education Programme.

 

 


 

2008年中大四院戲劇比賽 

由大學藝術行政主任辦公室與四院劇社合辦的「2008中大四院戲劇比賽」於11月19及20日兩天在邵逸夫堂舉行。本年度書院劇社以《大象消失了》一劇參賽,演出日期為11月20日,結果奪得優異視覺效果、優異創作劇本及最佳演出三個獎項,書院謹致熱烈祝賀。 

  
 

CU Inter-collegiate Drama Competition 2008 

The University's Inter-collegiate Drama Competition in 2008 , organized by the Office of The Arts Administrator and Drama Societies of the four Colleges, was held on 19 and 20 November 2008 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall.  United College Drama Club participated in the competition by staging "The Elephant Disappeared"on 20 November, and they won three awards, which included "Distinguished Visual Effects", "Distinguished Script Writing"and "The Best Performance"in this event.  Heartily congratulations from the College to the Drama Club and all participants on and behind the stage.

 

 
 

書院粵語辯論隊奪婦委會辯論比賽大專生組冠軍 

由香港婦女事務委員會主辦的全港中學生及大專生「性別觀點」辯論比賽於本年10月至11月舉行。書院粵語辯論隊參加大專生組,並於11月28日假奧海城舉行的決賽中,擊敗對手獲得冠軍名銜。是次比賽題目為「香港是一個男女平等的城市」,書院謹致衷心祝賀。

 

  

College Cantonese Debate Team won in the Debate Competition organized by the Women's Commission 

The debate competition for all local secondary schools and tertiary students on "Gender Views"organized by the Women's Commission was held from October to November in 2008.  The College Cantonese Debate Team participated in the competition and won in the championship match held on 28 November 2008 at Olympian City, and the motion was "Hong Kong is a city of gender equality".  Heartily congratulations to the College Cantonese Debate Team. 

 

  
 

「全港大專武術交流匯演2008」 

書院國術會於2008年11月8日假張煊昌體育館舉辦「全港大專武術交流匯演2008」,並以「傳統武術與現代體育」為主題,廣邀大專武術組織作表演和交流,嘗試探討如何將傳統武術配合現代社會的發展,使國術能承先啟後,繼往開來。是項活動獲得本年度書院創意學生活動獎勵計劃的資助。當天出席的武術隊伍除主辦單位外,包括香港大學中國武術學會、香港科技大學實戰少林學會、香港城市大學周家國術會、香港理工大學中國武術學會、以及來自中大的新亞國術會、崇基國術會和學生會精武武術學會等。

書院謹藉此機會向自創會開始已擔任國術會導師的李振雄師,他在廿一年來悉心指導書院學生修習武術,並十分著重德育的培養,為培育才德兼備的社會人才而努力。

 

 

Inter-varsity Martial Arts Show 2008 

The "Inter-varsity Martial Arts Show 2008" was organized by the College's Chinese Martial Arts Society on 8 November 2008 at the Thomas H C Cheung Gymnasium.  Bearing the title of "Traditional Martial Arts and Modern Sports", the event aimed at exploring the means to further develop traditional martial arts in the modern society.  This activity was sponsored by the College Creative Student Activity Award in 2008-09.  Besides the organizer, teams performed in the show including martial arts

organizations from the University of Hong Kong, University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and three student organizations from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. 

The College would like to take this opportunity to thank Master Li Chun-hung, instructor of the Chinese Martial Arts Society since its establishment, for his effort in training the College students in martial arts techniques and the emphasis on moral education for 21 years, which helps to shape the characters of students for betterment of the society.


 

11月6日書院聚會 

2008年11月6日晚上,書院假大學邵逸夫堂舉辦「戲曲文學與美學講座」,邀得北京著名戲曲學者胡芝風教授主講。胡教授為「天馬菁莪粵劇團」海外藝術顧問。當晚透過兩段折子戲《尋夢描真》和《英台哭墳》的展演,與及胡教授深入淺出的講解和即場示範,與同學探討中國戲曲文學和美學的揉合與互證。

是次講座由聯合書院及音樂系「粵劇研究計劃」合辦,有近一千位同學出席,書院希望藉此積極推廣中國文化藝術。院長馮國培教授、通識教育主任張雙慶教授及「粵劇研究計劃」統籌蔡燦煌教授親臨支持。

 

6 November College Assembly 

In the evening of 6 November 2008, a talk on "Literature and Aestheices of the Arts of Xiqu"was delivered by Professor Hu Zhifeng, renowned Chinese opera artist from Beijing. Performance of two excerpts of Cantonese Opera "Pursuing the Dream from the Peony Pavilion"and "Zhu Ying-Tai Weeping over the Tomb"were presented by the Sensational Spouts Cantonese Opera Association (SSCOA) in the beginning of the talk.  Professor Hu, through her lively speech with demonstration of acting, illustrated how the arts of Xiqu combine and testify with aesthetics. 

The talk was jointly organized by United College and the "Chinese Opera Research Programme"of the Department of Music of the University.  With an audience of about one thousand students, the College would like to take this opportunity to promote Chinese art and culture on the campus.  College Head Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Dean of General Education Professor Chang Song-hing, together with Director of "Chinese Opera Research Programme"Professor Tsai Tsan Huang attended the talk.

 


 

11月21日書院聚會 

2008年11月21日上午在邵逸夫堂舉行的書院聚會,邀請到香港中文大學醫學院公共衛生學院陳英凝教授,以「災後的衛生及醫療需要:四川地震的啟示」為題作演講。陳教授亦為無國界醫生香港辦事處前主席,現為其顧問委員會成員。 

陳英凝教授透過是次演講讓同學認識世界上無分國界地域的各種自然災害及救災情況。並特別就2008年5月四川地震災後的醫療救援作工作報告,分享有關的經驗。陳教授向同學解釋自然災害的定義及謬誤,並說明在災後的不同階段應進行不同的救災援助,而最有效的救災,是要知道如何 "進入"和如何 "走出",使提供私醫療援助能適切的在當地持續進行。 

陳英凝教授向在場一千三百多位同學詳細闡釋四川救災的啟示,包括要注意交通和物流的安排、要選擇適當的地點、了解同行者的專科技術以便配合、與當地人近些接觸了解民情,洞悉人類在自助中是充滿創意的、適當曝光的意義、文化的適應、必須的應變、資源(藥物)的分配和適當的捐贈,與及如何處理救援人員的身心需要。

最後,陳英凝教授向有興趣參與救災工作的聯合同學作招募,讓同學在將來有機會參與蹺有意義的救援工作。 

另,書院亦在是次「聚會」上進行「譚華正博士非本地進修獎」支票致送儀式,感謝譚博士支持成立非本地進修獎。

 

 
 

21 November College Assembly

At the College Assembly held on 21 November 2008 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, Professor Emily Y Y Chan of the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine of the University, delivered a speech on "Public Health and Medical Needs Post Disaster: A Case Study of Sichuan Earthquake". Professor Chan is currently a Member of the Advisory Committee for the Board of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Hong Kong) and is the former President of the organization. 

During the talk, Professor Chan introduced to United College students different natural disasters happened in various parts of the world, regardless of country boundaries, and the contingency of catastrophic events.  The post disaster case of May 2008 Sichuan Earthquake was reported and shared by Professor Chan. Professor Chan explained to students the definition of "natural disasters" and also the myths and realities of disasters. A Response Analysis with a Disaster Cycle was used to define the four stages of disasters with which different assistances should be made.  According to Professor Chan, the most effective Disaster Relief is to know where to "go" and where to "leave", to ensure a continuous provision of medical assistance with smooth transmission of outside resources to local resources. 

Professor Chan pointed out to the over 1,300 students the important lessons learnt from the case of Sichuan in providing assistance: Transport and logistics arrangement; Choice of a suitable site for providing urgent medical treatment; To know the expertise of the medical team members for better cooperation and to form partnership; Closer contact with the local people to learn about their culture and the patient profile; People are creative in helping themselves; The meaning of "visibility" when reported by the media; Cultural adaptability; The need to be flexible to sudden situation; Resource (medical resource) allocation and donation in need, and the Management of team workers' physical health and state of mind.

By the end of the talk, Professor Chan invited interested students to be volunteers in future work of disaster relief.

At the same College Assembly, a Donation Cheque Presentation for "Dr Tam Wah Ching Non-local Study Awards" was also made to show gratitude to Dr Tam for his support in establishing the non-local study awards.

 

  
 

聯合書院六舍堂領袖訓練營 

聯合書院六舍堂領袖訓練營已於2008年11月16日(星期日)假救世軍教育及發展中心舉行。當日共有七十多位新一屆的宿生會及走讀生舍堂幹事會成員參加,導師透過短講及歷奇訓練,提高各幹事會的團隊合作精神及與人相處的技巧。

 

  
 

Leadership Training Workshop for UC Residential/Non-residential Hall Associations


United College organised a leadership training workshop for the new cabinet members of the residential/non-residential halls. The workshop took place on Sunday, 16 November 2008 at the Salvation Army Education and Development Centre; its objective was to better prepare the office-bearers for their tasks as responsible student leaders. Over 70 students attended and were given instructions ranging from team-work building to ways to improve their social skills.

 

伯利衡宿舍三十周年 ──「伯人宴」 

為慶祝伯利衡宿舍成立三十周年,伯宿宿生會於2008年11月14日(星期五)晚上在伯宿對出石地舉辦「伯人宴」。當晚除了有前任舍監黃鉅鴻教授、韓錦倫教授及第一屆宿生會主席李劍雄先生、副主席朱永樂先生到賀外,亦有宿生、樓導師、工友、校友及書院同仁等百多人出席,場面既溫馨又熱鬧。

 

 

 

Bethlehem Hall 30th Anniversary Dinner 

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Bethlehem Hall, the BH Residents Association organised a reunion dinner on 14 November 2008 in the open space just outside their hall.

Professor Jeremiah Wong and Professor Ellis Hon, former wardens of BH, as well as Mr John Lee and Mr W L Chu, president and vice-president respectively of the first residents association also gracing the occasion. Over 100 guests including residents, tutors, hostel staff, alumni and officers of the College were there to share the fun.

 

學生宿舍消息

本院學生宿舍將於2008年12月29日(星期一)中午12時至2009年1月2日(星期五) 中午12時暫停開放,以便進行半年一度的清潔工作。為方便工作,請各宿生於12月29日(星期一)中午12時前離開宿舍,並避免放置物品於地上。非本地生如需於關閉期間繼續留宿,請於12月12日(星期五)前以書面通知舍監。只獲配上學期宿位的同學,請於本年12月29日(星期一)中午12時前到宿舍接待處辦理退宿手續。

 

 

Hostel News

All UC student hostels will be closed from 12:00 noon on Monday, 29 December 2008 to 12:00 noon on Friday, 2 January 2009 for the half-yearly cleaning operations.  Residents are

requested to leave the hostels during this period and not to put their personal belongings on the floor.  Non-local students who wish to stay on the said period must notify their respective wardens in writing before Friday, 12 December 2008.  Students eligible for first term residence only should check-out of the hostels by 12:00 noon on Monday, 29 December 2008.

語文改善計劃──2009年春季課程  

「語文改善計劃」春季課程將於2009年1月5日至14日接受同學報名。同學除可報讀普通話及英語課程外,亦可報名參加將於2009年暑期舉行「外地文化及語文研習課程」及「語文學習營」。章程及報名表格可於2009年1月5日起於書院學生輔導處索取。

The Language Improvement Project —Spring Programmes 2009 

Applications for the Spring courses of the College's 2009 Language Improvement Project (LIP) will be open from 5 to 14 January 2009. Apart from the local Putonghua and English courses, non-local Culture and Language Programmes and language immersion camps will also be organised in Summer 2009. Interested students may collect the programme booklets and application forms from the Dean of Students' Office, UC from 5 January 2009.

考試期間送贈生果 

書院學生飯堂於考試期間(12月3日至22日)晚巿時段,送贈新鮮生果給書院同學,為同學打氣,費用悉數由書院資助。

 

Fresh Fruit for UC Students 

Sponsored by the College, the College Student Canteen will supply free fresh fruit to the College students during the examination period from 3 to 22 December 2008 in the evening time.

 

 

學生團體活動津貼撥款

2008年1月至12月的學生團體活動津貼撥款支銷最後限期為2009年1月5日,各院系屬會務請於該日前依據報銷程序支銷撥款,逾期作放棄論。查詢請致電2609 7570或2609 7598與書院學生輔導處何惠芬女士或林偉源先生聯絡。
