The 103rd Meeting of the Assembly of Fellows will be held on Friday, 22 May 2009 at 11:00 am in the College Board Room.

 訪問藝術家活動——古典音樂與藝術

為了提高校園的文化藝術氣氛，崇基學院及聯合書院邀請了Mr Matthew Buckner，Professor Nathan Buckner及陳婷蘭教授擔任2008至09年度訪問藝術家，並舉辦以下音樂及藝術活動：

1) 音樂活動

Professor Nathan Buckner與陳婷蘭教授精心挑選五段樂曲，於2009年3月23日的書院聚會——訪問藝術家講座暨音樂會中為同學演奏，以及教導同學欣賞貝多芬早期作品。

聯合書院、崇基學院及音樂系亦於2009年3月24日在利希慎音樂廳合辦了一場演奏會，Professor Nathan Buckner與陳婷蘭教授當晚演奏了不同作曲家的曲目，贏得二百多名聽眾的掌聲。

2) 藝術活動

雕塑家Mr Matthew Buckner於 2009年3月14，21 及 28 日在崇基學院行政樓低層校友室示範人像雕塑及浮雕，並開放工作室，與出席者分享創作心得。

書院亦邀請了Mr Matthew Buckner舉辦共三節的頭像雕塑工作坊，學員有幸Mr Buckner指導，親身以泥土及簡單工具創作雕塑，獲益良多，並可把完成的作品保留紀念。

於2009年3月31日的書院聚會中，Mr Buckner與近百位同學分享當代美國人像雕塑之復興，加深同學對不同形態的美國人像雕塑的認識。

Visiting Artists 2008-09 Activities—Classical Music and Art

Chung Chi College and United College have jointly invited Mr Matthew Buckner, Professor Nathan Buckner and Professor Chen Ting-lan to be Visiting Artists 2008-09. During their visit to the Colleges, the following music and art activities have been organised.

1) Music Activities

Professor Nathan Buckner and Professor Ting-Lan Chen presented a lecture-recital at the College Assembly on 23 March 2009 and guided United College students to appreciate Ludwig van Beethoven's early works.

A concert was jointly organised by United College, Chung Chi College and Department of Music on 24 March 2009 at Lee Hysan Concert Hall in which Professor Nathan Buckner and Professor Ting-Lan Chen performed recitals of compositions of Alfred Schnittke, Ludwig van Beethoven, Karl Szymanowski and Nicolai Medtner. The audience enjoyed the concert and roared with applause.

2) Art Activities

Mr Matthew Buckner offered three demonstration sessions in March. He illustrated the techniques of portraiture and relief sculpture and shared his art creation journey with the participants.

 "Portraiture in Clay" Workshop, led by Mr Matthew Buckner, concluded successfully on 1 April 2009. Participants got hands-on experience in portraiture under Mr Buckner's instruction, and were very happy to take their own sculpture home after the last session of the workshop.

Mr Buckner also gave a lecture on Revival of Figure Work in Contemporary American Sculpture at the College Assembly on 31 March 2009. Around 100 students attended the lecture and learned a lot about some famous American sculptures in various sizes and styles.

中大四十五周年講座──「下一站牛津：羅德學人在中大」

由大學學生事務處及中大校友事務處合辦的中大四十五周年講座──「下一站牛津：羅德學人在中大」將於2009年4月16日(星期四)下午5時假校園西部綜合教學大樓六號演講廳舉行。羅德獎學金歷史悠久，國際知名。中大過去曾有十二位畢業生獲此殊榮前往牛津大學深造，是本港大專院校之冠，其中六位更屬聯合書院的畢業生。

是次邀得四位曾當選羅德學人的校友回到母校，與一眾師生及校友分享他們的學習心得及留學經驗，他們分別是：

CUHK 45th Anniversary Lecture— "Rhodes Scholars at CUHK"

Jointly organised by the Office of Student Affairs and the Alumni Affairs Office of CUHK, the CUHK 45th Anniversary Lecture― "Rhodes Scholars at CUHK" will be held on Thursday, 16 April 2009 5:00 pm at LT6, Teaching Complex at Western Campus. The Rhodes Scholarship is the oldest and one of the most prestigious international fellowships. Twelve CUHK graduates were awarded the Scholarship and furthered their studies at the University of Oxford, making CUHK the local university with most Rhodes Scholars. Six of them are graduates of United College.

In this lecture, four Rhodes Scholars from CUHK from different fields of expertise will share their academic pursuit and experiences in studying abroad with all staff, students and alumni. They are:

本院成員藥劑學院李炯前教授獲政府委任為香港藥物監管制度檢討委員會委員，由2009年3月24日起生效。

本院成員微生物學系陳基湘教授及本院校友黃寶財教授(83/電子)獲政府委任為食物及環境衞生諮詢委員會委員，任期兩年，由2009年4月1日起生效。

本院校友曾其鞏先生(76/物理)及葉少康先生(91/統計)獲政府委任為公民教育委員會其他非官方委員，任期兩年，由2009年4月1日起生效。

本院校友黃寶財教授(83/電子)及婦女事務委員會主席高靜芝女士(70/工管)分別獲政府委任為家庭議會委員及當然委員，任期兩年，由2009年4月1日起生效。

本院校友蘇偉文教授(88/財務)獲行政長官委任為香港房屋委員會委員，任期兩年，由2009年4月1日起生效。

本院成員暨校友社會學系鄭慧婷教授(97/社會)獲政府委任為青年事務委員會委員，任期兩年，由2009年4月1日起生效。

Community Services

College member, Professor Kenneth K C Lee from School of Pharmacy, has been appointed by the Government as member of the Review Committee on Regulation of Pharmaceutical Products, with effect from 24 March 2009.

College member, Professor Paul K S Chan from Department of Microbiology and College alumnus, Professor Wong Po-choi (83/ELE), have been appointed by the Government as members of the Advisory Council on Food and Environmental Hygiene for two years, with effect from 1 April 2009.

College alumni, Mr Tsang Kee-kung (76/PHY) and Mr Nelson S H Yip (91/STA), have been appointed by the Government as other non-official members of the Committee on Promotion of Civic Education for two years, with effect from 1 April 2009.

College alumni, Professor Wong Po-choi (83/ELE) and Ms Sophia C C Kao (70/BBA), Chairperson of the Women's Commission, have been appointed by the Government as non-official member and ex-officio member of the Family Council for two years respectively, with effect from 1 April 2009.

College alumnus, Professor Raymond W M So (88/FIN) has been appointed by the Chief Executive as member of the Hong Kong Housing Authority for two years, with effect from 1 April 2009.

College member and alumna, Professor Nicole W T Cheng (97/SOC) has been appointed by the Government as member of the Commission on Youth for two years, with effect from 1 April 2009.

思源文娛中心消息——餐酒工作坊

聯合書院思源文娛中心會所管理委員會於2009年3月26日舉辦餐酒工作坊，由思源文娛中心會所管理委員會主席兼酒店及旅遊管理學院謝靜憶教授主講，逾四十多名師生及校友出席。

United College Si Yuan Amenities Centre—Workshop on Wine Appreciation 101

United College Si Yuan Amenities Centre Club Management Committee organised a Workshop on Wine Appreciation 101 on 26 March 2009. The speaker of the Workshop was Professor Eliza C Y Tse, Chairperson of the College Si Yuan Amenities Centre Club Management Committee cum Professor, School of Hotel and Tourism Management. Over 40 students, staff and alumni attended.

署理書院輔導長任命

書院輔導長王香生教授於2009年4月22至25日應邀訪問大塚制藥位於日本福岡的寶礦力實驗室，上述期間將由生物系朱利民教授出任署理輔導長。

Appointment of Acting Dean

Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, was invited by Otsuka Pharmaceutical Company to visit the Saga Lab of Pocari Sweat in Fukuoka, Japan from 22 to 25 April 2009. Professor Chu Lee-man from the Department of Biology will be the Acting Dean of Students during the above period.

本院2002年傑出訪問學人陳繁昌教授出任科大校長

本院2002年傑出訪問學人陳繁昌教授獲委任為香港科技大學校長，由2009年9月1日起生效。

College Distinguished Visiting Scholar Appointed President, HKUST

Professor Tony Chan, United College Distinguished Visiting Scholar in 2002, was appointed as the next President of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 1 September 2009.

「聯合書院馮國培院長盃」頒獎禮暨教職員校友同樂日

 聯合書院書院生活委員會將於2009年5月16日(星期六)下午2時至6時假聯合書院張煊昌體育館舉辦「聯合書院馮國培院長盃」頒獎禮暨教職員校友同樂日。同樂日比賽項目包括籃球、羽毛球及乒乓球，另設遊戲項目-籃球投籃比賽，歡迎聯合書院教職員及校友參加，並於活動後共進晚餐歡聚，詳情見書院網頁。書院亦將另行以電郵寄發報名單張予各位教職員及校友會成員。

"United College Head's Cup – K P Fung Cup" Prize Presentation Ceremony cum Games Day for Staff and Alumni

The "United College Head's Cup – K P Fung Cup" Prize Presentation Ceremony cum Games Day for Staff and Alumni will be organised by the College Life Committee on 16 May 2009 (Saturday) 2:00–6:00 pm at the United College Thomas Cheung Gymnasium. Games will include basketball, badminton and table tennis, plus a basketball shooting game for fun. All College staff members and alumni are welcome to join, and to have dinner
