書院成員發表講座教授就職演講

本院成員內科及藥物治療學講座教授余卓文教授將於2009年9月23日（星期三）下午5時30分假沙田威爾斯親王醫院醫學深造中心逸夫堂，舉行其講座教授就職演講。

書院成員參與教育部重點研究

本院成員系統工程與工程管理學系蒙美玲教授參與教育部發展人性化電腦的重點研究，並成功研發一個漢語文本到語音的實時合成器。此項研究可以更有效地幫助以中文為母語的英語學習者掌握第二語言，矯正發音。

　

College Member Participate In the Key Research of Ministry of Education

College Fellow, Professor Helen Meng, professor of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management participated in the key research of Ministry of Education about developing human-centric computing and successfully developed a real-time Chinese text-to-speech synthesizer. The research can help native Chinese speakers to improve their English pronunciation.

書院成員深入四川災區作評估工作 

本院成員公共衛生及基層醫療學院助理教授陳英凝教授執筆為中大通訊第341期攢文《深入蜀南 探索被遺忘的災區》，記錄了她率領評估小組造訪金沙江流域，為少數民族為主村莊的公共衛生需要作評估的所見所聞。

　

College Member Visited the Earthquake Affected area of Sichuan for Assessment

College member, Professor Emily Y Y Chan, Assistant Professor in School of Public Health and Primary Care wrote an article for CUHK newsletter no.341 “ Less Travelled, More Memorable” to share her experience of leading the Humanitarian Public Health Assessment Team to study the Public Health Care needed of the ethnic minority groups inhabited in earthquake affected area around Jinshajiang.

　

書院成員獲頒第二屆香港人道年獎 

本院成員公共衛生及基層醫療學院助理教授黃至生教授獲頒香港紅十字會及香港電台合辦的第二屆香港人道年獎，以表揚其對推動人道精神所作出的貢獻。

College Member Won the Second Hong Kong Humanity Award

College member, Professor Martin C S Wong, Assistant Professor in School of Public Health and Primary Care won the Second Hong Kong Humanity Award co-organised by Hong Kong Red Cross and Radio Television Hong Kong to pay tribute to his contribution to the spirit of humanity.

書院成員獲頒第二十五屆IEEE資料工程國際會議最具影響力論文獎

書院成員計算機科學與工程學系副教授傅慰慈教授憑十年前發表的論文《以子波為時間序列作有效配對》獲頒第二十五屆IEEE數據工程國際會議（ICDE2009）最具影響力論文獎。

College Member Awarded the Influential Paper Award At the 25th IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering 2009

College member Professor Fu Wai-chee, Associate Professor in Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been awarded the Influential Paper Award at the 25th IEEE International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2009) for her co-authored paper “Efficient Time Series Matching by Wavelets” presented ten years ago.

Community Services

1. Professor Ignatius T S Yu, Professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, has been appointed by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare as a member of the Occupational Deafness Medical Committee for three years from 1 June 2009.

2. Mrs Grace Chow, Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education as the institutional representative of CUHK in the joint Committee on Student Finance for one year from 1 June 2009.
　

書院成員獲選為美國統計協會2009年度院士

書院成員統計學教授李俊文教授，獲選為美國統計協會2009年度院士，以表揚李教授在推動統計學發展的卓越貢獻。李教授是本年度香港區唯一獲選的教授。

College member was elected Fellow of American Statistical Association

College member, Professor Thomas Lee Chun-man, Department of Statistics, has been selected as 2009 Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA) for his outstanding contributions to the statistical profession. Professor Lee is the only Fellow being elected from Hong Kong this year.

1) 體育部黃安東先生於2009年7月1日至12日，出席在塞爾維亞貝爾格萊德舉行之2009年世界大學生運動會。

2)酒店及旅遊管理學院謝靜憶教授於2009年7月29日至8月1日，出席在美國加州舉行之酒店、飲食及教育學院國際委員會會議，並發表論文一篇。

Report on College International Conference Grant Scheme

In the 1st round allocation of the International Conference Grant for 2009-2010, the College granted $40,770 to subsidise 16 staff to attend international conferences as follows:

1) Mr Wong On-tung from Physical Education Unit was invited to participate in the Universiade Belgrade 2009 held in Belgrade, Serbia from 1 to 12 July 2009.

2) Professor Eliza C Y Tse from School of Hotel and Tourism Management was invited to attend and present a paper at the 2009 International CHRIE Conference held in California, USA from 29 July to 1 August 2009.

3) Professor David Ahlstrom from Department of Management was invited to attend and present a paper at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting 2009 held in Chicago, USA from 7 to 11 August 2009.

4) Professor Huang Yu from School of Biomedical Sciences was invited to attend and present a paper at the 7th Scientific Conference on Cardiovascular Sciences Across the Strait held in Kunming, China from 14 to 17 August 2009.

5) Professor Wong Kuan-io from Department of Chinese Language and Literature was invited to attend and present a paper at the The 6th International Congress on the Study of Oriental Poetry-talk held in Jilin, China from 14 to 18 August 2009.

6) Professor Tsang Suk-ying from Department of Biochemistry was invited to attend and present a paper at the 7th Scientific Conference on Cardiovascular Sciences Across the Strait held in Kunming, China from 14 to 16 August 2009.

7) Professor Chu Lee-man from Department of Biology was invited to attend and present a paper at the 10th International Congress of Ecology held in Brisbane, Australia from 17 to 21 August 2009.

8) Professor Wong Kuan-io from Department of Chinese Language and Literature was invited to attend and present a paper at the 8th International Conference on the Study of Wenxuan held in Yangzhou, China from 27 to 31 August 2009.

9) Ms Yumi Inoue from Department of Japanese Studies was invited to attend and present a paper at the 19th Annual Conference of the European Second Language Association held in Cork, Ireland from 2 to 5 September 2009.

10) Professor Wu Fengshi from Department of Government and Public Administration was invited to attend and present a paper at the American Political Science Association Annual Conference 2009 held in Toronto, Canada from 2 to 7 September 2009.

11) Professor Esther S C Ho from Department of Education Administration and Policy was invited to attend and present a paper at the Gener and Education: Towards New Strategies of Leadership and Power held in Augustsburg, Germany from 14 to 18 September 2009.

12) Dr Siu Kam-wah from Department of History was invited to attend and present a paper at the 2009 International Conference on the History of the T'ang Dynasty held in Sichuan, China from 14 to 16 October 2009.

13) Mr Ip Kin-ho from Department of Japanese Studies was invited to attend and present a paper at the 3rd International Conference on Gender Equity Education in the Asia-Pacific Region held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan from 17 to 18 October 2009.

14) Professor Wong Kuan-io from Department of Chinese Language and Literature was invited to attend and present a paper at the 6th International Conference on the Study of Song Dynasty Literature held in Sichuan, China from 22 to 27 October 2009.

15) Professor Lam Kin-che from Department of Geography & Resource Management was invited to attend and present a paper at the EURONOISE 2009 - Annual Conference of Institute of Acoustics held in Edinburgh, United Kingdom from 25 to 28 October 2009.

16) Ms Hon Sun-yu from New Asia Yale-in-China Chinese Language Centre was invited to attend and present a paper at the 9th International Conference On Chinese Language Teaching held in Taipei, Taiwan from 25 to 28 Dec 2009.
