The 17th Budding Scholars Exchange Scheme United College and Waseda University, Japan are now jointly organising the Budding Scholars Exchange Scheme of this year. Seven budding scholars of the College, led by the Academic Adviser, Professor Xue Yu, Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, will visit Waseda University, from 15 to 21 February 2010. The United College students will present their research findings on the topic “Internationalisation in Higher Education: Myth & Reality”, at Waseda University. 院長日話——院政校政事務交流系列 由書院學生會、六舍堂及學生輔導處合辦的「院長日話 ——院政校政事務交流系列」已於2009年11月16日(星期一)下午假聯合書院張祝珊師生康樂大樓二樓學生休息室舉行。交流會由學生會幹事會秘書黎璧而同學主持，嘉賓為院長馮國培教授，並由書院輔導長王香生教授陪同，會上的主要交流內容包括書院獎學金的提名機制及準則、增設助學金、增加「邁進地球村計劃」名額以照顧一些不需書院資助的同學、宿舍分配同房的安排、招聘湯若望宿舍舍監的進展、品德教育活動的推廣及即將推動的「順風計劃」等。 |

Head's Day Talk―College and University Affairs Series Jointly organised by the College Student Union, Six Halls and the Dean of Students' Office, the "Head's Day Talk―College and University Affairs Series" activity was held on Monday, 16 November 2009 from 4:30 pm to 6:50 pm at the Student Common Room, 2/F, Cheung Chuk Shan Amenities Building. The session was chaired by Ms Charlotte Lai, Secretary of the College Student Union Executive Committee. Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, was serving as the honorable guest and was accompanied by Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students. Matters covered in the exchange session were: the nomination mechanisms and criteria for scholarships, setting up of financial aid, increase of GOAL Programme quota for students who do not need financial subsidies, allocation of hostel roommates, progress of the recruitment of hostel warden for Adam Schall Residence, promotion of moral education activities and the new initiative on "Hitch Offer" Campaign, etc. |

學生宿舍消息 本院學生宿舍將於2009年12月30日(星期三)中午12時至2010年1月4日(星期一) 中午12時暫停開放，以便進行半年一度的清潔工作。為方便工作，請各宿生於12月30日(星期三)中午12時前離開宿舍，並避免放置物品於地上。非本地生如需於關閉期間繼續留宿，請於12月11日(星期五)前以書面通知舍監。只獲配上學期宿位的同學，請於本年12月30日(星期三)中午12時前到宿舍接待處辦理退宿手續。 |

Hostel News All UC student hostels will be closed from 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 30 December 2009 to 12:00 noon on Monday, 4 January 2010 for the half-yearly cleaning operations. Residents are requested to leave the hostels during this period and not to put their personal belongings on the floor. Non-local students who wish to stay during the said period must notify their respective wardens in writing before Friday,11 December 2009. Students eligible for first term residence only should check-out of the hostels by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 30 December 2009. |

The Language Improvement Project—Spring Programmes 2010 Applications for the Spring courses of the College's 2010 Language Improvement Project (LIP) will open from 11 to 20 January 2010. Apart from the local Putonghua and English courses, non-local Culture and Language Programmes and language immersion camps will also be organised in Summer 2010. Interested students may collect the programme booklets and application forms from the Dean of Students' Office, UC from 11 January 2010. 伯利衡宿舍三十一周年「伯人宴」 為慶祝伯利衡宿舍成立三十一周年，伯宿宿生會於2009年11月13日(星期五)晚上在伯宿對出石地舉辦「伯人宴」。當晚除了有前任舍監何瑞珠教授及第一屆宿生會主席李劍雄先生、副主席朱永樂先生到賀外，亦有宿生、宿舍住校導師、工友、校友及書院同仁等百多人出席，場面既溫馨又熱鬧。 |

Bethlehem Hall 31st Anniversary Dinner To celebrate the 31st anniversary of Bethlehem Hall, the Bethlehem Hall Residents Association organised a reunion dinner on Friday,13 November 2009 in the open space outside the Hall. Professor Esther S C Ho, former warden of Bethlehem Hall, as well as Mr John K H Lee and Mr W L Chu, president and vice-president of the first residents association also graced the occasion. Over 100 participants including residents, tutors, hostel staff, alumni and officers of the College were there to share the fun. |

Leadership Training Workshop for UC Residential and Non-residential Hall
Associations United College had organised a leadership training workshop for the new cabinet members of the residential and non-residential halls. The workshop took place on Saturday, 14 November 2009 at the Salvation Army Education and Development Centre. Its objective was to better prepare the office-bearers for their tasks as responsible student leaders. A total of 60 students attended and were given instructions ranging from team-work building to ways to improve their social skills. |

《戀愛嘉年華》音樂會 由香港中文大學聯合書院走讀生舍堂——百全堂與秉芬堂舉辦的《戀愛嘉年華》音樂會於2009年11月26日假香港中文大學聯合書院湯石舉行。演出歌手是來自華納唱片的薛凱琪、周柏豪及周子揚。是次活動吸引了超過二百名同學參加，八十多張的門票一早派罄，座無虛席，更有超過一百五十多名同學在旁圍觀，場面熱鬧。 此音樂會是中大校園廣播劇《戀愛嘉年華》的延續。三位歌手早前與中大新聞與傳播學院合作，聲演廣播劇後，再親臨中大演唱該劇的主題曲，並與同學合演劇中的一些情節。在場同學都聽得入神，歌手獻唱時都隨著旋律揮手，演唱完畢，歡呼不絕。 |

"Meu Amore" Concert "Meu Amore" Concert was organised by the two Non-residential Halls of the United College, Pak Chuen Hall and Ping Fan Hall, at the open area outside Adam Schall Residence on 26 November 2009. Three singers from Warner Music, Fiona Sit, Chau Pak-ho and Hinson Chou performed. Over hundreds of students participated in the concert. 80 tickets were distributed to members of the two Halls long before the performance. Though no more seat was available, over 150 students stood nearby and enjoyed the show. This concert is an extension of the radio drama, "Meu Amore", produced by the School of Journalism and Communication, CUHK. The three singers act different roles in the radio drama. During the concert, they sang the songs in the drama and performed some of the scenes with our students. Participants were very excited, waved hands to the singers and shouted with glee after the performance. |

「CEO給您的五個錦囊：如何為未來事業裝備自己？」 為增進同學與校友間的聯繫，由2005年起，書院與書院校友會合辦一系列的「聯合書院校友講座」，邀請在社會上各行各業有卓越成就的校友，與在校的師弟師妹們分享他們在事業上、人生旅途上的各種經歷與體會。校友講座將以高桌晚宴形式舉行，讓聯合同學在輕鬆的環境下與主講校友嘉賓交流認識。 校友講座的第八講已於2009年11月26日晚上7時假聯合書院張祝珊師生康樂大樓文怡閣舉行，書院邀得1987年數學系校友，集美證券有限公司副主席陳剛校友擔任主講嘉賓，以「CEO給您的五個錦囊：如何為未來事業裝備自己？」為講題，與八十位聯合同學分享他的創業心得。 |

United College Alumni Talk "Five Tips to You from CEO: How to Prepare Yourself for Your Future Career?" From 2005, the College and the Alumni Association have jointly organised a series of alumni talks for students. Distinguished alumni from all walks of life are invited to share with fellow students on their career and life experiences. The Alumni Talk is organised in the format of high table dinner, providing students and alumni with a relaxing atmosphere for learning and communication. The eighth Alumni Talk was held on 26 November 2009 at 7:00 pm at the Staff Common Room, Cheung Chuk Shan Amenities Building, United College. The College invited Mr Chan Kong, Vice-chairman, Jimei Investment Limited, to share with 80 United College students on the topic " Five Tips to You from CEO: How to Prepare Yourself for Your Future Career?". Mr Chan is a 1987 United College alumnus majoring in Mathematics. |
