院長馮國培教授於2009年12月21日、22日及24日休假，上述期間由書院通識教育副主任張雙慶教授出任署理院長。

Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, was on leave on 21, 22 and 24 December 2009. Professor Chang Song-hing, Associate Dean of General Education, was the Acting Head during the above period.

書院前訪問研究學人獲選中國科學院院士

本院前研究訪問學人，北京大學城市與環境學系主任陶澍教授最近獲選為中國科學院院士，以表揚陶教授在推動環境及地球科學研究的卓越貢獻。陶教授當年應本院成員地理及資源管理學系林健枝教授邀請來港，於1992年7月至9月期間擔任書院的訪問研究學人。

College Former Resident Fellow Elected Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

The former Resident Fellow of United College, Professor Tao Shu, Dean of School of Urban and Environmental Science of Peking University, has been elected Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to pay tribute to his profession in the field of environmental geosciences. Professor Tao was invited by College member, Professor Lam Kin-che, Department of Geography and Resource Management to visit the College as Resident Fellow from July to September in 1992.

1) 本院成員地理與資源管理學系鄒桂昌教授獲委任為環境諮詢委員會副主席，任期一年，由2010年1月1日起生效。

2) 本院校友人力資本管理顧問有限公司主席吳克儉先生(76/社工)及中文大學財務學系蘇偉文教授(88/財務)獲再度委任為方便營商諮詢委員會委員，任期兩年，由2009年12月30日起生效。

3) 本院校友浸會大學工商管理學院院長張仁良教授(82/數學)獲再度委任為廉政公署審查貪污舉報諮詢委員會委   員，任期兩年，由2010年1月1日起生效。

Community Services

1) College member, Professor Chau Kwai-cheong from Department of Geography and Resource Management, has been appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Environment for one year, with effect  from 1 January 2010.

2) College alumni, Mr Ng Hak-kim(76/SWK), Chairman of Human Capital Management Consulting Limited and Professor Raymond Y M So(88/FIN), Department of Finance of  CUHK, have been re-appointed as the non-official members to the Business Facilitation Advisory Committee for two years, with effect from 30 December 2009.

3) College Alumnus, Professor Stephen Y L Cheung (82/MAT), Dean of School of Business, Hong Kong Baptist University, has been re-appointed as the member of The ICAC Operations Review Committee for two years, with effect from 1 January 2010.

渣打馬拉松2010──聯合書院隊

書院鼓勵員生及校友積極參與「渣打馬拉松2010」，並於2010年1月14日舉行第一次熱身跑。書院邀請到中大田徑隊教練邱永強先生主持是次活動，並與出席者分享參加馬拉松比賽所需要注意的各類事項並親身在跑道上作出技術指導。

Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2010—United College Team

United College encourages UC students, staff members and alumni to participate in The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2010. The first Trial Run was held on 14 January 2010. Mr W K Yau, coach of CUHK Track and Field Team, was invited to share with participants some tips on marathon training and gave technical advice on the track.

樂步行(第四期)

Walking Campaign (Phase 4)

After the three successful campaigns, the fourth Walking Campaign will be held on Friday, 22 January 2010. The route will be from University MTR Station to New Asia College, via Alumni Garden and Herbal Garden. Souvenirs will be given to participants and light refreshment will be provided at the destination. 書院聚會—中國科學院及中國工程院院士講座系列第五講

講題: 「著名科學家的成功要素」

2009年12月4日上午，聯合書院假大學邵逸夫堂舉行書院聚會。書院蒙 中國科學院院士劉允怡教授擔任演講嘉賓，以著名科學家成功要素為題，與一千四百多位聯合同學分享他在學術實踐上的深刻體會。講座內容豐富，其間播放多段珍貴和富啟發性的影片，同學反應熱烈。

College Assembly— Lecture Series of Members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Members of Chinese Academy of Engineering (Lecture 5)

Topic:“Famous Scientists– Factors for Their Success”

The College Assembly- Lecture Series of Members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Members of Chinese Academy of Engineering was held in the morning of 4 December 2009, at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The College was honored to have Professor Joseph W Y Lau, Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, to be the guest speaker with the topic "Famous Scientists-Factors for Their Success". Professor Lau shared with the audience his in-depth understanding of the challenges to success in academy. The talk was well received by over 1,400 UC students. The lecture was filled with precious and inspiring video clips and active participation of the students.  

書院同仁積極參與2009年第五屆東亞運動會

本屆東亞運動會已於2009年12月13日(星期日)圓滿舉行，本港運動員成績驕人，奪得多面獎牌，本院校友及同學亦熱烈參與其中，當中包括代表中國香港奪得壁球項目三面金牌的趙詠賢校友（00/體育運動科學）、參與田徑項目的范偉豪校友(04/工管)及代表中國香港參與排球項目的謝穎紅同學(新聞與傳播學四年級)和李臻樂同學(計量金融學二年級)。

College Members Actively Participated in the 5th East Asian Games 2009

The East Asian Games 2009 completed successfully on Sunday, 13 December 2009. Athletes from Hong Kong won a lot of medals which was an excellent result. College alumni and students participated in this event include: Ms Chiu Wing-yin Rebecca (SPE/00), winner of three gold medals in Squash items; Mr Fan Wai-ho (04/BBA), representative of Hong Kong in field and track and representatives of Hong Kong in the Volleyball team, Miss Tse Wing-Hung (JLM/Year 4) and Mr Lee Chun-lok (QFN/Year 2).

法國里昂天主教大學法國語文與文化中心到訪聯合書院

法國里昂天主教大學法國語文與文化中心院長Mrs Martine Moulin於2009年12月8日到訪聯合書院，由院長馮國培教授、書院輔導長王香生教授及學生交換計劃委員會主席陳錦泰教授接待。該大學為書院邁進地球村系列合作院校之一。

French Language and Culture Institute, Université Catholique de Lyon visited United College

Mrs Martine Moulin, Head of French Language and Culture Institute, Université Catholique de Lyon visited United College on 8 December 2009 and was received by Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students and Professor Chan Kam-tai, Chairman of the Student Exchange Programme Committee. The Université Catholique de Lyon is one of the partner universities of the College GOAL progamme.

荷蘭烏特勒支大學訪問聯合書院

荷蘭烏特勒支大學Mr Wouter Feldberg 於2009年12月18日到訪聯合書院，由院長馮國培教授及院務主任李雷寶玲女士共同接待。荷蘭烏特勒支大學為書院邁進地球村系列合作院校之一。

 Mr Wouter Feldberg, Internationalisation Consultant Asia, Corporate Offices-Academic Affairs from Utrecht University, the Netherlands visited United College on 18 December 2009, and was received by Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head and Mrs Christina Li, College Secretary . The Utrecht University, the Netherlands is one of the partner universities of the College GOAL programme.
