2010年聯合書院歌唱比賽

由書院學生會籌辦一年一度的歌唱比賽決賽將於2010年1月28日(星期四)晚上7時15分假中大邵逸夫堂舉行，本屆主題為「LolliPoppin'」，籌委會希望能透過一連串精彩的比賽及表演，為參賽者及觀眾帶來一個極具娛樂性的活動。票價訂為五十九元，將於1月11日至28日在文化廣場及聯合飯堂攤位發售。歡迎大學教職員及學生踴躍支持，查詢或訂票請與籌委會聯絡，發送電郵至ucsingcon2010@gmail.com 或致電6290 4952與吳灝賢同學聯絡。

United College Singing Contest 2010

Organised by the College Student Union, the UC Singing Contest 2010 will be held on Thursday, 28 January 2010 at 7:15 pm at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The theme of this year is "LolliPoppin'". United College GOAL Programme Now Opens for Application

Students can be granted one of the above scholarships/schemes for each academic year. (i.e. applications submitted between 1 September and 31 August of the following year). Loans offered by the University or College are also available for application.

聯合書院「師生共膳計劃」

為了加強院內師生的聯繫，聯合書院自2006年起推出「聯合書院師生共膳計劃」。 計劃以學院作為單位，鼓勵不同學院的老師和同學，透過出席於聯合書院飯堂舉行的晚宴，加強彼此溝通，亦加深對書院的認識。此計劃是書院非形式教育的一部份。

本年度第二次的「師生共膳計劃」詳情如下:

United College Dinner

The United College Dinner was first launched in 2006 to facilitate more interactions between the College staff and students outside class. It is a part of the College non-formal education. The second gathering of this academic year will be held on 4 February 2010 and the details are as below:

聯合書院國際演講會

聯合書院國際演講會由2010年1月14日起每隔星期四晚上6時45分於曾肇添樓3樓312室舉行演講會議。參加的同學可透過一連串有系統的練習，訓練英語演講技巧及即席演講的應變能力。同學亦同時可學習對其他參加者的演講作出有效的評價。

United College Toastmasters Club

United College Toastmasters Club meetings will be held on every alternate Thursday, 6:45pm at Rm312, 3/F Tsang Shiu Tim Building from 14 January 2010 onwards. Toastmasters training can help students to give better presentations in English, to learn how to  develop and present ideas effectively. Students can also learn to offer constructive criticism objectively.

2009-2010年度聯合書院獎學金

以下獎項已開始接受申請：

書院傑出服務獎

獎額共七名，每名港幣一千元至一萬元。旨在獎勵於過去一年間在服務書院或推動書院活動方面表現傑出之同學。申請者須由書院行政人員提名。

范祖德課外活動獎

獎額一名，港幣一千元，由范祖德校友捐資成立。旨在獎勵在課外活動方面有傑出表現的數學系二年級同學。

馮秉芬獎

獎額共二名，每名港幣五萬元。由馮秉芬爵士家族每年捐資成立。該獎學金旨在推廣「德智體群美」五育的全人發展。獲獎的本院畢業班同學可選擇繼續進修，參與國際學術交流及研討活動或發展創意工業。

院長創作獎

院長為提倡書院內之創作風氣及鼓勵同學個人或集體創作之興趣，特捐出「院長創作獎」一名，獎金為港幣一千五百元正。凡屬本院同學於過去一年內完成之學術論文、研究報告、文學創作、音樂作品、美術設計或科學發明等均可參加競逐。

明德新民傑出貢獻獎

獎額一名，港幣一萬元，由聯合書院明德新民校友基金資助。旨在獎勵於在學期間對大學及書院作出傑出服務及貢獻的畢業班同學。

黃李碧恥紀念獎學金

獎額一名，港幣一萬元，由「李碧恥紀念基金」資助。旨在表揚在社會服務方面有傑出表現的社會工作學系同學。

戴麟趾爵士獎學金

獎額共五名，每名港幣一萬元。該獎學金旨在獎勵於在學期間積極參與課外活動，並在領導才能方面有傑出表現的本院畢業班同學。

聯合書院謝婉雯醫生紀念獎學金

獎額共三名，每名港幣一萬元。旨在鼓勵本院醫科生積極參與社會服務，熱心公益，以發揚謝婉雯校友在沙士期間熱心助人的無私精神。

聯合書院明德獎

獎額一名，港幣五萬元，旨在表揚在大學肆業期間整體學業成績卓越，在領袖才能及服務方面亦有相當表現的本院應屆畢業生。此項書院最高榮譽的獎學金將會在書院院慶典禮上頒發，並由老師宣讀讚辭，得獎人的資料亦會永久保存在書院檔案。

聯合書院社會工作系校友(1986)社會關懷獎

獎額一名，港幣五千元，由一群聯合書院1986年社工系畢業生捐贈。旨在鼓勵本院社工系同學發揚社會工作的專業精神，積極參與社會服務。申請者須由中大社會工作學系提名。

聯合書院新民獎

獎額一名，港幣五萬元，旨在表揚在大學肆業期間整體的校內外服務及其領袖才能有傑出表現，在學業成績亦有相當水平的本院應屆畢業生。此項書院最高榮譽的獎學金將會在書院院慶典禮上頒發，並由老師宣讀讚辭，得獎人的資料亦會永久保存在書院檔案。

College Scholarship for 2009-2010

Applications are now invited for the following awards:

Distinguished College Service Awards

There will be seven awards ranging from HK$1,000 to HK$10,000. The prizes will be awarded to students having demonstrated outstanding development in academic and extra-curricular activities as well as of significant contributions to College or campus life in the year 2009. Candidates for these awards are nominated by staff of the College.

Fan Cho Tak Extra-curricular Activities Award

This Award, in the amount of HK$1,000, was established through the generous donation of an UC alumnus Mr. Fan Cho Tak. The award will be made to a year-2 Mathematics student who has in the past year demonstrated outstanding performance in extra-curricular activities.

Fung Ping Fan Scholarships

Two scholarships, in the amount of HK$50,000 each, were established with the donation from the family of Sir Kenneth Fung Ping Fan in his memory, to support final-year students of United College in pursuit of whole person development along the five core areas: ethical, moral,intellectual, physical, social, interpersonal and aesthetic. These scholarships may be used for postgraduate studies, for participation in international events or as seed money to start creative entrepreneurial projects. 

Head of College Creativity Prize

The Head of College Creativity Prize has been established to promote student interest in creative projects.  A cash prize of HK1,500 will be awarded to a student or a group of students who has demonstrated good creativity in an academic paper, research report, literary or musical composition, work of art or scientific invention completed within the last 12 months. 

Ming De Xin Min Distinguished Service Award

This Award, in the amount of HK$10,000, was established through a donation from the “Ming De Xin Min Alumni Fund”. The prize will be made to final year students who have made significant contributions to the College or the University during their undergraduate studies.

Mrs Eva Wong Memorial Scholarship

This Scholarship, in the amount of HK$10,000, was established through a donation from the “Eva Li Memorial Fund”. The Scholarship will be awarded to one Social Work student who has attained outstanding performance in community services. 

Sir David Trench Scholarships

These scholarships, five in total of HK$10,000 each, are awarded to final year students with good leadership qualities and outstanding contribution to student activities and/or community services. 

United College Dr Tse Yuen Man Memorial Scholarships

Three scholarships, HK$10,000 each, were established to encourage more young medical students to continue the vision of Dr. Tse Yuen Man, a graduate of United College and a great fighter against SARS, in utilising her knowledge to cure suffering and save lives. 

United College Ming De Scholarship

This Scholarship, in the amount of HK$50,000, was established by the College to honour a final year UC student for having achieved academic excellence, manifested leadership ability as well as performed outstanding services to the College and the Community at large during his/her tenure at the University. The recipient will additionally be honoured with a public citation at the College's Anniversary Ceremony and a permanent record of his/her accomplishments will be kept in the College archives.

United College Social Work Graduates (1986) - Caring for the Community Prize

This Scholarship, in the amount of HK$5,000, was established through the donation from a group of United College Social Work (year 1986) graduates, to encourage more young students to recognise the values of social work profession in the betterment of society. The Scholarship will be awarded to one Social Work student who has attained outstanding performance in community services and recommended by the Department of Social Work, CUHK.

United College Xin Min Scholarship

This Scholarship, in the amount of HK$50,000, was established by the College to honour a final year UC student who has performed the best service for the benefit of the College and the community throughout his/her University study while at the same time demonstrating a capability for sustained academic advancement. The recipient will additionally be honoured with a public citation at the College's Anniversary Ceremony and a permanent record of his/her accomplishments will be kept in the College archives.

學生宿舍消息

新春期間，本院學生宿舍將於2010年2月12日(年廿九)中午12時起至2月17日(年初四)中午12時止暫停開放。非本地生如需於關閉期間繼續留宿，請於2010年2月5日(星期五)前以書面通知舍監。關閉期內，宿舍將暫停服務。

Student Hostel News

During the Lunar New Year holidays, all UC student hostels will be closed from 12:00 noon on 12 February 2010 to 12:00 noon on 17 February 2010.  Non-local students who wish to stay on during the said period must notify their respective wardens in writing before 5 February 2010. No hostel services will be provided during the said period.

創意學生活動獎勵計劃接受申請

書院為鼓勵同學籌辦具創意的活動，特設「創意學生活動獎」供本院同學或學生團體申請。計劃目的在於鼓勵學生或學生團體籌辦優質活動；提高學生及學生組織的積極性；及推動學生積極投入校園生活。是項計劃現正公開接受申請。歡迎聯合書院學生會認可的學生團體或本院同學以個人或小組名義申請。申請表格及計劃書可於2010年3月12日(星期五)或以前向書院學生輔導處遞交。每年計劃總獎額達港幣六萬元，得獎人或單位將獲得資助，作為籌辦該項活動的經費。開支實報實銷，得獎個人或團體須向書院呈交活動及財政報告。本計劃由聯合書院鄭棟材博士紀念基金資助，申請表格可於書院學生輔導處索取或於書院網頁下載，查詢請電2609 7570 與書院學生輔導處林偉源先生或何惠芬女士聯絡。

Creative Student Activity Award Programme Now Opens for Application

To encourage students to organise new or creative activities, the College has established the Creative Student Activity Award Programme since 2002.  The aims of the programmes are: 1) encouraging students or student bodies to organise quality activities; 2) encouraging students/student bodies to be more active in organising activities; and 3) promoting students' participation in College life.The Programme for 2010 is now open for application. Students of United College or student organisations registered with the United College Student Union are eligible to apply. Interested parties should submit the applications and activity proposals to the Dean of Students' Office on or before Friday, 12 March 2010.The annual award money amounted to HK$60,000, and the winning students or organisation(s) will be subsidised according to their programme proposals. Detailed activity and financial reports must be submitted to the College upon completion of the programme. This award programme is funded by the United College T C Cheng Memorial Fund. Application forms are available at the Dean of Students' Office or from the College webpage. Mr Fung Sun Kwan Whole Person Development Award Programme Opens for Application

This programme is supported by Mr Fung Sun-kwan, and is designed to encourage students to take active and systematic steps to pursue whole person development through participation in academic as well as non-formal educational activities. The five core areas include ethical, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic development. Scores will be assigned to various activities under these areas. Participants will be awarded when the scoring reach 30 points or above before graduation or 20 points in an individual academic year. A quota of 500 has been set for 2nd semester of 2009-2010. 第十七屆萌芽學者學術交流計劃

聯合書院現正與日本早稻田大學合辦本年度的「萌芽學者學術交流計劃」。本院萌芽學者學術交流團一行八人將由學術顧問文化及宗教研究系學愚教授帶領下，於2010年2月15日至21日出訪日本早稻田大學。聯合書院萌芽學者以「大學國際化的迷思」為題進行專題研究，並在早稻田大學公開發表有關研究結果。

The 17th Budding Scholars Exchange Scheme 

United College and Waseda University, Japan are now jointly organising the Budding Scholars Exchange Scheme of this year. Seven budding scholars of the College, led by the Academic Adviser, Professor Xue Yu, Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, will visit Waseda University, from 15 to 21 February 2010. The United College students will present their research findings on the topic “Internationalisation in Higher Education: Myth & Reality”, at Waseda University.

澳門理工學院辯論隊訪問書院

澳門理工學院辯論隊於2009年12月28日訪問書院。在該院辯論隊教練侯定凱教授及顧問馮淑貞教授率領下，學生輔導員黎筱瑩女士及七位辯論隊隊員從澳門來港作友誼比賽及交流。書院方面由輔導長王香生教授、辯論隊隊監黃鉅鴻教授及粵語辯論隊隊員負責接待。友誼辯論比賽之前，院長馮國培教授特別到場為澳門理工學院及書院辯論隊打氣。兩院辯論賽的題目為「香港應發展博彩業」，賽後雙方作交流及分享。書院亦計劃於2010年中回訪澳門理工學院，以建立長遠的合作夥伴關係。

Visit of the Macau Polytechnic Institute Debate Team

Led by Professor Hou Ding-kai and Professor Corina Fung, coach and advisor of the Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) debate team, 7 team members accompanied by Ms Priscilla Lai, student counselor, visited the College on 28 December 2009. Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, and Professor Jeremiah Wong, team warden and members of the College Debate Team welcomed the delegation at the College Staff Common Room. Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, motivated both teams before the friendly match. The motion of the match was “Hong Kong should develop gambling business”, team members actively participated in the sharing and discussion session after the match. The College also planned to visit MPI in mid 2010, so as to establish a long term partnership with the institution.
