「與高錕教授同行」中大步行籌款日 由香港中文大學主辦、中大校友評議會支持的「與高錕教授同行」中大步行籌款日已於2010年3月14日（星期日）舉行。開步禮假嶺南體育館舉行並蒙高錕教授伉儷親臨主禮。聯合書院亦組隊參與是次活動，並獲書院師生及校友積極響應，接近二百名聯合人出席支持步行日。是次活動所籌得的款項將用於支持新成立的高錕獎學基金及發展認知障礙者家屬網上培訓課程。 |

“Walk with Professor Kao” CUHK Walkathon Organised by the University and supported by the Convocation of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, “Walk with Professor Kao” CUHK Walkathon was held on Sunday, 14 March 2010. Professor and Mrs Charles K Kao officiated at the Opening Ceremony in Lingnan Stadium. United College also formed a UC Walking Team for this event, which was well supported by the College staff members, students and alumni. Nearly 200 College members participated in the walkathon. All donations received will be used for the establishment of Charles K Kao Scholarship Endowment Fund and development of a web-based training programme for family caregivers of people with cognitive loss in Hong Kong. |

聯合書院2010年周年研討會──「三通後兩岸四地的新形勢」 聯合書院2010年周年研討會已於3月5日（星期五）上午10時假香港中文大學西部綜合教學大樓一樓六號演講廳舉行。本年研討會的主題為「三通後兩岸四地的新形勢」，逾四百師生、校友及嘉賓出席。出席研討會的嘉賓包括亞太台商聯合總會總會長潘漢唐先生，一國兩制研究中心總裁張志剛先生，亞洲周刊總編輯邱立本先生。大會主持為書院資深導師黃鉅鴻教授。嘉賓講者與師生們分享對三通後兩岸四地新形勢精闢獨到的見解，討論氣氛熱烈。周年研討會始於1980年舉行，本屆為慶祝研討會籌辦三十周年。 |

2010 Annual Workshop of United College-“Mainland China ~ Hong Kong ~ Macau ~ Taiwan: A Post - San Tong (三通) Development” The 2010 Annual Workshop of United College was successfully held on Friday, 5 March 2010 at the Lecture Theatre 6, Teaching Complex at Western Campus, CUHK. The topic of this year’s workshop was “Mainland China ~ Hong Kong ~ Macau ~ Taiwan: A Post - San Tong (三通) Development”. Speakers of the Workshop were Mr Alexander Pann, Chairman of the Asia Pacific Taiwan Federation of Industry and Commerce, Mr Cheung Chi-kong, Executive Director of the One Country Two Systems Research Institute, Mr Yau Lop-poon, Editor-in-Chief of Yazhou Zhoukan. The moderator of the Workshop was Professor Jeremiah K H Wong, Senior College Tutor, United College. It was well attended by over 400 guests, staff and students of the College. The speakers shared their intelligent views on the topic with the audience. The Annual Workshop has been organised since 1980 and this year’s workshop was celebrating its 30th Anniversary. |

United We Advance Sixth Issue The sixth issue of United We Advance has been published in February 2010. The theme of this issue features on United College's contribution in Social Work. The publications have been distributed to various departments/units of the University, tertiary institutions, public libraries, all members of United College Alumni Association as well as secondary schools in Hong Kong. Visiting Artists 2009-2010 Activities Chung Chi College and United College have jointly invited Professor Wong Lui-sang and his followers to be the Visiting Artists 2009-2010. A series of art activities will be organised during their visit from 22 to 27 March 2010. Professor Wong Lui-sang studied with Chao Shaoan, a prominent painter of Lingnan School of Art. Professor Wong has received many awards including the First Young Asian Artists Exhibit, the Highest Artist Award at the show of the Sino-American Culture Society and the Vera Karen McCracken Young Award. He has had exhibitions in Taiwan, Hong Kong , South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, introducing Lingnan School of Art to the world. Details of the Visiting Artists activities are as follows: 1) Art Exhibition “Lui Sang Wong & Followers” The Opening Ceremony of the exhibition “Lui Sang Wong and Followers” will take place at 4:30 pm on Thursday, 25 March 2010. The exhibition, co-organised by Chung Chi College, United College and Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong will be held from 24 March to 24 April 2010 at University Library Exhibition Hall. The exhibition presents some of the best paintings and calligraphy of Professor Wong Lui-sang and 10 of his followers which should not be missed. 2) College Assembly: Seminar and Demonstration on Chinese painting Date: Wednesday, 24 March 2010 Time: 5:30 – 7:00pm Venue: Lecture Theatre 3, Teaching Complex of Western Campus United College staff members and alumni are also welcome to attend. 第五屆聯合書院馮國培院長盃 「第五屆聯合書院馮國培院長盃」從水運會和陸運會作序幕後，隨後一連串的球類比賽於2010年1月開始舉行並於3月完滿結束。這項大型運動比賽是聯合書院四個宿生會及兩個走讀生舍堂間之比賽，項目包括男子籃球、女子三人籃球、足球、排球、羽毛球、乒乓球和網球。經過多番熱烈的比賽後，今屆總冠軍再由恒生樓蟬聯，以六十二分成功衛冕，湯若望宿舍及陳震夏宿舍同以四十四分獲得亞軍，季軍得主是獲得四十一分的伯利衡宿舍。各項比賽成績如下：

The 5th United College Head's Cup － Fung Kwok Pui Cup Following the United College Annual Swimming Gala and Athletic Meet, the 5th United College Fung Kwok Pui Cup was held successfully from January to March 2010. This large-scaled competition was competed among four student hostels and two non-residential halls. The competition events included Men’s Basketball, Ladies’ 3 on 3 Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Table Tennis and Tennis. After three months’ exciting competitions, the Hang Seng Hall won the Overall Champion again. They scored 62 points from 9 events. The 1st Runners-up were Adam Schall Residence and Chan Chun Ha Hostel, and the 2nd Runner-up was Bethlehem Hall. Results of each events are listed as follows:

Programme for Aesthetic Development - Art East and West: Integration of East and West: Chinese Painting in the 20th Century" United College organised a series of Art East and West Talks titled “Integration of East and West: Chinese Painting in the 20th Century” from February to March 2010. Dr Cheung Wai-yee, College Tutor and Part-time Lecturer of the Department of Fine Arts, CUHK, introduced the impact from the West on Chinese paintings andguided participants to savour the masterpieces of some renowned artists. “Good People Good Deeds” Online Sharing

Recommended by the Taskforce on Students’ Well-being, the College launched the “Good People Good Deeds” online sharing platform at CU Forum on 23 February 2010. All College members are welcome to report experiences or incidents related to the theme, so as to spread the news and give credits to individuals or organisations that provide assistance to others in good will. It is hoped that the platform could further encourage College members to express their appreciation and thankfulness to others and enhance the spirit of caring and helping others in need. College Assembly - Sharing on Student Activities The College Assembly – Sharing on Student Activities was held in the afternoon of 23 February 2010, at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The sharing was made by students participated in the following student activities last year: ＊ Service-learning Activity on Teaching and Village Experiences in Guizhou ＊ United College Cantonese Debate Team ＊ Leadership Training Society ＊ United College Toastmaster Club The presentation with a great number of photos and video clips, together with demonstrations of a debate and a language training session, was well received by the audience. In this College Assembly, a congratulation certificate was presented by the Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head to Professor Helen M L Meng, Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, who is awarded the Technology Progress Award by the Ministry of Education of China, withresearch project on “Multimodal User Interactions with Multilingual Speech and Language Technologies-Research and Applications”. |

聯合書院支持「地球一小時」 全球八十個國家、共六百五十八個城市包括香港，將參與世界自然基金會的「地球一小時」行動，在今年3月27日(星期六)晚上8時30分，熄燈一小時，承諾以行動解決氣候變化問題，實踐五個簡單可行的低碳生活行動：(1) 拒絕備用電器；(2)縮短洗澡時間；(3) 少用即棄餐具；(4) 多菜少肉；以及(5)在2010年3月27日晚上8時半，把燈熄掉一小時。香港中文大學聯合書院支持「地球一小時」行動，當晚把校園燈光大部分燈熄掉一小時，請書院同仁一同支持。詳情於香港地球一小時2010網頁公布: wwf.org.hk/earthhour。 |

United College Pledged to Support the Earth Hour Day Hong Kong will join 656 cities in 80 countries worldwide in this year's Earth Hour "lights out" campaign at 8:30 pm, Saturday, 27 March 2010 to resolve the issue of global warming by action. WWF introduced five simple actions to encourage Hong Kong people to adopt a low-carbon lifestyle: (1) Say No to appliances' standby; (2) Reduce shower time; (3) Use less disposable dining utensils; (4) Eat less meat; and (5) Turning off lights at 08:30pm, 27 March 2010.The United College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong will also support the Earth Hour day and only minimal campus lightings will be provided in that hour.
