United College International Conference Grant Scheme and Resident Fellow Scheme 2009-2010

The last round of application for the College International Conference Grant Scheme and Resident Fellow Scheme 2009-2010 is now open for application. The closing date will be 31 March 2010. The result will be announced by late April. 本院成員獲國家自然科學獎二等獎

本院成員生物醫學學院鄭漢其教授聯同南京大學及蘭州大學多名學者，進行長達二十年的若干重要藥用植物的成分研究，深入研究二百多種重要藥用植物在防治疾病上的科學原理，獲頒2009年度國家自然科學獎二等獎，以表彰他研究中草藥藥理的貢獻。

College Member Awarded State Natural Science Second Class Award

College Member, Professor Christopher H K Cheng, School of Biomedical Sciences, has conducted a 20-year research on “Composition Analysis of Certain Medicinally Important Plants” with professors of Nanjing University and Lanzhou University.

The research received the second class award of the 2009 State Natural Science Award for its contribution to the composition analysis of Chinese medicinal herbs.

聯合書院學術研討會贊助計劃

本計劃旨在透過資助各學院及單位的書院教職員主辦學術研討會，提高教職員及學生學術科研交流，鼓勵推動院內學術研討的風氣。

United College Conference Sponsorship Scheme

The second round application for the United College Conference Sponsorship Scheme 2009-2010 is now open for submission. The closing date will be 9 April 2010.

The main purpose of the Scheme is to promote academic exchange activities benefiting students and staff and, through provision of financial support and sponsorship, encourage colleagues of United College and the University to take the initiative in planning and organising academic conferences.

社會服務

1)本院成員微生物學系陳基湘教授獲民政事務局委任為  公共事務論壇成員，任期由2010年1月1日起至2011年6月30日止。

2)本院成員公共衛生及基層醫療學院余德新教授獲勞工及福利局局長再次委任為肺塵埃沉著病補償基金委員會委員，任期兩年，由2010年1月1日生效。余教授同時獲委任為第五屆環境與職業醫學期刊編委會委員，任期由2009年起至2013年止。

3)本院成員地理及資源管理系林健枝教授獲委任為大珠三角商務委員會委員，任期兩年，由2010年3月1日起生效。

Community Services

1)College member, Professor Chan Kay-sheung, Department of Microbiology, has been appointed member of the Public Affair Forum by Home Affairs Bureau from 1 January 2010 to 30 June 2011.

2)College member, Professor Yu Tak-sun, School of Public Health and Primary Care, has been re-appointed by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare as member of the Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund Board for two years, with effect from 1 January 2010. Professor Yu has also been appointed as committee member of the Fifth Editorial Board of the Journal of Environmental and Occupational Medicine for the year 2009-2013.

3)College member, Professor Lam Kin-che, Department of Geography and Resource Management, has been appointed as member of the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council for two years, with effect from 1 March 2010.

聯合書院教職員著作出版資助計劃

聯合書院教職員著作出版資助計劃2009-2010現再次公開接受申請，截止申請日期為2010年3月31日。  

本計劃在於鼓勵本院教職員積極從事研究及著述，並將研究成果或作品出版，從而提高教職員在其本身專業及學術界的地位，並使作品能夠獲得適當的評價及認同。

United College Staff Publication Scheme

The United College Staff Publication Scheme for 2009-2010 is now re-open for submission. The closing date is on 31 March 2010.  

The main purpose of the scheme is to encourage the staff of United College to actively participate in research activities and to publish their findings. It is hoped that such publication will enhance the College staff's professional and academic standing with recognition.

健康聯合人系列──健康講座

書院於2010年3月12日假文怡閣舉行健康講座。講座「工作有效率，你我都可以」由健康促進小組及書院生活委員會合辦，主講嘉賓沙田醫院職業治療師曾瑞萍女士講解如何從管理及員工的角度出發，找出有效的工作關係，從而減輕工作帶來的壓力及提升工作效率，參加者獲益良多。

Health Series - Health Talks

Co-organised by College Task Force on Health Promotion and College Life Committee, a Health Talk "Optimising Work Efficiency" delivered by Ms Chang Sui-ping Vicky, Occupational Therapist of Shatin Hospital, was held on 12 March 2010 at Staff Common Room. Ms Chang explored from a supervisor and from a subordinate's point of view to discuss the effective working relationship in the office. The participants were enlightened from the talk.

書院教職員聯誼會──觀星活動

書院教職員聯誼會將於2010年3月20日於元朗天文農莊舉辦觀星活動及盤菜晚宴，費用為每人$100，有興趣的會員請致電2696 1750與書院學生輔導處林煒婷女士聯絡，名額有限，先到先得。

United College Staff Association is organising a Star-Gazing activity with Chinese Casserole Dinner at Astrofarm in Yuen Long on 20 March 2010. The fee is $100 per person.
