聯合書院天文觀測入門講座──小口徑便攜觀星裝備簡介

為增加同學認識天文的機會，聯合書院特意邀請香港天文學會資深會員唐國華先生，及前座井會會長黃隆先生主講天文觀測入門講座。唐先生將為同學介紹基本的天文現象並展示一些便攜式觀星裝備，教授使用方法和注意事項。講座完畢後，同學更能在黃先生及唐先生的帶領下，使用儀器觀測當晚星體，體驗觀星的樂趣。詳情如下:

United College Astronomy Talk - Introduction to Portable Star Gazing Equipment

In order to provide students with opportunity to learn more about astronomy, United College has invited Mr Tong Kwok-wah, an experienced member of the Hong Kong Astronomy Society, and Mr Wong Lung, former-chairman of the Sky Observers' Association (Hong Kong), to conduct a talk on beginning astronomy. Mr Tong will introduce phenomenon in astronomy and use some portable star gazing equipment to teach students star gazing basics and techniques in the talk. After the talk, a star gazing activity will be held under the lead of Mr Wong and Mr Tong, students can enjoy the fun of star gazing. Details are as below:

聯合書院校園保健大使活動：藥膳

United College Campus Health Ambassadors Activity: Chinese Medicated Feast

Co-organising by United Collgee Campus Health Ambassadors and Chinese Medicine Promotion Unit, a Chinese Medicated Feast will be held at 6:30 pm on 13 April 2010 at Benjamin Franklin Centre Staff Canteen. There will be an introduction of Chinese medicated diet by Chinese medicine practitioners as well as singing performance. Applications for the 2010-2011 Regular-term Residence

Application forms for the 2010-2011 regular-term residence in the College’s student hostels are available at the Dean of Students’ Office, United College from 1 April 2010. They can also be downloaded from the College website. Completed application forms should be submitted to the same office on or before 23 April 2010.  Late applications will not be considered.

Lam Yee Lung Wade China Employment Award Scheme

The Lam Yee Lung Wade China Employment Award scheme is now open for application. The Award Scheme is set up to provide financial support to students participated in the “Global Internship Programme 2010 – Mainland Part” organised by the Office of Student Affairs.

聯合書院領袖訓練學會十周年慶祝晚宴

領袖訓練學會於2010年3月4日晚上假書院文怡閣舉行十周年慶祝晚宴，出席嘉賓包括院長馮國培教授、書院輔導長王香生教授、通識主任余濟美教授、湯若望宿舍舍監麥陳淑賢教授、蔡明都校友及院務主任李雷寶玲女士。學會亦特別邀請到香港律師會會長王桂壎校友作演講嘉賓，與同學分享成功之道。

十周年慶祝晚宴由第十屆幹事會統籌，並由同日就職的第十一屆幹事會協辦。學會邀請多位在各行各業工作的歷屆幹事會成員和在學會員參加慶祝晚宴，場面熱鬧而溫馨，新知舊雨逾八十人濟濟一堂共慶。

United College Leadership Training Society 10th Anniversary Dinner

The 10th Anniversary Dinner of the Leadership Training Society was held on 4 March 2010 at the Staff Common Room of United College. The dinner was honoured to have Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, Professor Jimmy C M Yu, Dean of General Education, Professor Barley Mak, Warden of Adam Schall Residence, Mr Mingles M T Tsoi, College alumnus and Mrs Christina Li, College Secretary joining the function. College alumnus, Mr Huen Wong, President of The Law Society of Hong Kong, was invited to deliver a speech at the dinner to share his road of success with the students.

This 10th Anniversary Dinner was organised by the 10th Committee of the Society with the assistance of the 11th Committee inaugurated on the same day. Members of former committees in the past ten years joined the dinner. With over eighty former and current members joining the celebration, the dinner concluded with joy and warmth.

校長夜話

由書院學生會主辦、六舍堂協辦的「校長夜話」已於2010年2月26日(星期五)晚上假湯若望宿舍禮堂舉行，當晚的嘉賓講者為校長劉遵義教授。校長夫人劉麥嘉軒女士、常務副校長華雲生教授、大學輔導長吳基培教授、學生事務處處長梁汝照先生及傳訊及公共關係處處長徐綺薇女士均撥冗出席，並由院長馮國培教授、輔導長王香生教授、通識教育主任余濟美教授、院務主任李雷寶玲女士、湯若望宿舍舍監麥陳淑賢教授、伯利衡宿舍舍監李丹教授及陳震夏宿舍舍監賴陳秀卿博士等嘉賓陪同。劉遵義教授向同學講解成立新書院的重要性、大學未來宿位安排的策略及建設深圳學院的計劃等，並鼓勵走讀同學抓緊機會，一嘗宿舍生活，認為住宿生活必定對他們有莫大裨益。劉教授表示，長遠而言大學希望能提供足夠宿位予所有申請住宿的學生。

Vice-Chancellor’s Night Talk

The Vice-Chancellor’s Night Talk organised by the College Student Union and the Six Hall Associations was held on Friday, 26 February 2010 at the Adam Schall Hall. Professor Lawrence J Lau, Vice-Chancellor, was invited as the honorable guest of the talk. The presence of Mrs Ayesha Lau, wife of Professor Lau, Professor Benjamin W Wah, Provost, Professor Dennis K P Ng, University Dean of Students, Mr Raymond Y C Leung, Director of Student Affairs Office. Ms Amy W M Tsui, Director, Communication and Public Relations Office also graced the occasion. Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, Professor Jimmy C M Yu, Dean of General Education, Mrs Christina Li, College Secretary, Professor Barley Mak, Warden of Adam Schall Residence, Professor Lee Tan, Warden of Bethlehem Hall, Dr Jose Lai, Warden of Chan Chun Ha Hostel also accompanied the guests in attending the occasion. During the talk, Professor Lau explained the importance of establishing new Colleges and talked about the future strategy in hostel place allocation as well as the plan of establishing a CUHK campus in Shenzhen. The Vice-Chancellor also encouraged non-resident undergraduate students to apply for hostel places. He believed the experience would be very helpful to their personal development. In the long run, the University would like to provide sufficient hostel places to meet the demand of all students.

聯合學生會選舉消息

本院第四十八屆學生會幹事會選舉已於2010年2月22日至26日進行投票，並於2月26日下午2時15分，在院長馮國培教授、輔導長王香生教授、院務主任李雷寶玲女士及學生會選舉委員會監察下，於學生會會議室進行點票。是項選舉共有四百零七位同學投票，佔學生會會員總人數百分之十四點三五。由於投票率不足百分之二十，選舉委員會宣布是次選舉無效。其餘兩項投票，包括普選監議員及學生會修章均基於相同理由，未能成功當選及通過。

United College Student Union Elections News

The forty-eighth United College Student Union Executive Committee election was held from 22 to 26 February 2010. The ballots were opened and counted on 26 February 2010 at 2:15 pm at Student Conference Room under the supervision of Professor Fung Kwok-pui, Head of College, Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, Mrs Christina Li, College Secretary and United College Student Union’s ad hoc Elections Committee.  A total of 407 students (14.35%) had cast their votes in the election. As the voting rate did not meet the minimum requirement of 20%, the Elections Committee announced that the election was invalid. The other election of student councilor and the voting for change in constitution contents were also invalid due to the same reason.

本院同學於第七屆中大演講比賽奪得多個獎項

第七屆中大演講比賽已於2010年3月4日假中文大學邵逸夫堂舉行，賽題為「香港失勢!?」。本院多位同學參與是次比賽並獲得多個獎項，獲獎同學名單如下：

The 7th CU Speech Contest was held on 4 March 2010 in Sir Run Run Shaw Hall of CUHK. The motion was "Is Hong Kong Losing Its Edge!?". United College students actively participated in the contest and won a number of prizes. The awardees are as follows:

書院獎學金消息

下列書院獎項已開始接受申請：

1)      王德昭紀念獎學金

王德昭紀念獎學金乃為紀念本院已故歷史系教授暨中國文化研究所前高級研究員王德昭先生而設。每年設奬額一名，金額為港幣三千元正，頒予學術論文優異之畢業班學生。其論文必須與中國近世史或現代中國歷史有關。

2)      王德昭紀念學業獎

本獎項頒予撰寫學術論文成績優異之聯合書院本科生，其論文必須與中國近世史或現代中國歷史有關。上述獎項共設獎額兩名，每名獎金港幣一千元正。

3)      書院體育運動獎

書院本年度設有體育運動獎三十八名，每名港幣一千元至一萬元，頒予在體育活動方面有傑出表現之聯合同學。申請者須由書院輔導長或書院院系聯絡人或體育部職員提名。

College Scholarships News

Applications are now  invited for the following scholarships:

1)      Wang Teh-chao Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship, in amount of HK$3,000, has been set up in memory of the late Mr Wang Teh-chao, former Reader in history of United College and former senior Research Fellow of the University’s Institute of Chinese Studies. Final-year students of United College are invited to apply for the Wang Teh-chao Memorial Scholarship.

2)      Wang Teh-chao Memorial Prizes

Two prizes, in amount of HK$1,000 each, are awarded to United College Students for outstanding essays on the history of later imperial China (900-1800) or history of Modern China.

3)      College Athletic Awards

United College is offering a total of 38 athletic awards, ranging in value from HK$1,000 to HK$10,000, for the year 2009-10. These prizes are to be awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional athletic and sports abilities or who have made significant contributions towards the promotion of on-campus sports activities during the year. Nominations should be made through the College Dean of Students or College Coordinators or staff of Physical Education Unit.

日本早稻田大學萌芽學者到訪聯合書院

聯合書院與日本早稻田大學現正合辦第十七屆萌芽學者學術交流計劃。本院萌芽學者學術交流團一行八人在學術顧問文化及宗教研究系學愚教授帶領下，於2010年2月15至21日出訪日本早稻田大學。聯合書院萌芽學者以「大學國際化的迷思」為題進行專題研究，並在早稻田大學發表有關研究結果。

早稻田大學的萌芽學者學術交流團一行十人將由該校的國際教育部副院長水戶考道教授率領，於2010年3月22至28日回訪聯合書院。該校萌芽學者定於2010年3月26日下午4時30分假大學西部教學大樓高層地下五號演講廳就「大學國際化」為題舉行專題研討會。歡迎各位師生出席。

中國文化節嘉年華

由香港中文大學內地本科生同學會及聯合書院合辦的中國文化節嘉年華，已於2010年3月4日完滿結束，當晚節目豐富多元，包括中國舞蹈表演、民族服裝共賞、「鄉影留心——記錄華夏點滴」攝影比賽頒獎禮及得獎作品展覽，並設有多個攤位介紹中國內地不同省份的特色、工藝品及小食。

Chinese Cultural Festival Carnival

The Chinese Cultural Festival Carnival co-organised by the Mainland Undergraduate Association and United College was successfully held on 4 March 2010. Various programme including Chinese dance performance, Chinese tribal fashion show and photo exhibition were shown in the carnival. Booths highlighting the features, handicrafts and snacks of different provinces in China were also set up.

2009-2010年度GEU 4011【專題討論】書券獎勵計劃

書院為獎勵本學年在GEU 4011【專題討論】課程中表現優異的同學，決定贈送壹佰圓書券乙張予獲導師提名的學生，以資獎勵。獲獎同學請於2010年3月15日至4月23日辦公時間內到聯合書院曾肇添樓二樓聯合書院學生輔導處領取書券。上述獎勵由書院基金會撥款資助，書院謹此鳴謝。

Book Coupon Award Scheme of GEU4011 "Senior Seminar" in 2009-2010

To encourage students with excellent performance in the College general education course,GEU4011 "Senior Seminar" this year, the College has decided to give out $100 worth of book coupon each to the students nominated by their respective course supervisors.  The awardees can collect their coupons during office hours from 15 March to 23 April 2010 at the Dean of Students Office, Tsang Shiu Tim Building.  The College would like to thank the College Endowment Fund Committee in sponsoring this award scheme.

天機電算室數碼攝影與影像處理課程

天機電算室已於2010年3月初為聯合書院同學舉辦兩次「數碼攝影與影像處理」課程，教授攝影基本理論，如光圈、快門與鏡頭等運用，亦講解數碼攝影的概念和技巧。影像處理方面，則以Photoshop Elements為示範軟件，介紹基本數碼黑房技術。

Digital Photography and Electronic Imaging Course by Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory

Two courses of “Digital Photography and Electronic Imaging” were held in early March 2010 by Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory. Basic theory of photography including usage of diaphragm, shutter and lens etc., as well as concepts and techniques of digital photography were covered. Photoshop Elements was used as the demo software in the electronic image processing section.

2009至2010年度全年最佳學生團體獎

書院為鼓勵學生團體積極服務同學，每年特設「全年最佳學生團體獎」。經書院學生會提名及院方確認，本年度的獲獎團體為聯合書院陳震夏宿舍宿生會，獎金為港幣一萬元。書院將安排於2010年3月19日舉行的書院聚會中頒發此獎項，書院謹致衷心祝賀。

The Best Student Organisation of the Year Award in 2009-2010

With the aim of encouraging student bodies to improve their services to its members and fellow students, the College established “The Best Student Organisation of the Year Award”. This year, the award goes to the Residents Association of Chan Chun Ha Hostel which was nominated by College Student Union and endorsed by the College. The award carries a cash prize of HK$10,000 and will be presented in the College Assembly held on 19 March 2010. Our heartily congratulations to the Residents Association of Chan Chun Ha Hostel!

聯合書院岑才生學長計劃中期經驗分享會

聯合書院岑才生學長計劃於2010年2月27日（星期六）下午假大埔白鷺湖互動中心舉行中期經驗分享會，藉以加強學長和學員間的溝通。當日近八十位學長學員參加，節目包括經驗分享、划艇、薄餅製作及燒烤。

United College Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme Sharing Session

The United College Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme Sharing Session was held on Saturday, 27 February 2010 at Lake Egret Nature Park, Tai Po to strengthen the relationship between mentors and mentees. Over 80 mentors and mentees participated in the sharing session and enjoyed rowing, pizza making and barbecue on the day.

聯合書院校友講座

為增進同學與校友間的聯繫，由2005年起，書院與書院校友會合辦一系列的「聯合書院校友講座」，邀請在社會上各行各業有卓越成就的校友與在校的師弟師妹們分享他們在事業上、人生旅途上的各種經歷與體會。校友講座以高桌晚宴形式舉行，讓聯合同學在輕鬆的環境下與主講校友嘉賓交流認識。

校友講座的第九講將於2010年3月29日晚上7時假聯合書院張祝珊師生康樂大樓三樓文怡閣舉行，書院邀請得1977年社會學系校友，從心會社主席吳思源校友擔任主講嘉賓，以「當幸福來敲門——談運氣與人生」為講題，與聯合同學分享他的心得。

United College Alumni Talk 

From 2005, the College and the Alumni Association have jointly organised a series of alumni talks for students. Distinguished alumni from all walks of life are invited to share with fellow students on their career and life experiences. The Alumni Talk is organised in the format of high table dinner, providing students and alumni a relaxing atmosphere for learning and communication.

The ninth Alumni Talk will be held at 7:00 pm, 29 March 2010 at the Staff Common Room, 3/F, Cheung Chuk Shan Amenities Building, United College. The College has invited Mr Ng Sze-yuen, Chairman of Soul-Mate, to share with UC students on the topic of "Good Luck and Life". Mr Ng is a 1977 United College alumnus who majored in Sociology.

湯宿之友周年聚餐

一年一度的「湯宿之友周年聚餐」暨「春茗」活動已於2010年3月2日（星期二）晚上假湯若望宿舍禮堂順利舉行。當晚除了有湯宿前舍監冀世安神父、吳恆亮教授及院長馮國培教授到賀外，湯宿宿生、住校導師、工友、校友及書院同仁等百多人出席，濟濟一堂，共渡了一個愉快的晚上。

Reunion Dinner for Friends of Adam Schall Residence

The annual reunion dinner for friends of Adam Schall Residence (ASR) had been successfully organised in the evening on Tuesday, 2 March 2010 in the Adam Schall Hall. Two former wardens of ASR, Father Ciaran F Kane and Professor Dickon H L Ng, as well as Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head graced the occasion. Over 100 participants including residents, tutors, hostel staff, alumni of ASR and officers of the College were there to share the fun.
