UC Language Improvement Project - Summer English and Putonghua Camps

United College Summer English and Putonghua Camps are now open for application. The details are as follows:

English Immersion Camp

Date:    28-30 May 2010

Venue:  HKFYG Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp　

The camps are free of charge with limited quota, on a first-come-first-served basis. Deposit in the amount of HK$350 is refundable after the completion of the programme. 聯合書院「師生共膳計劃」

為加強院內師生的聯繫，聯合書院於2006年起推出「聯合書院師生共膳計劃」，以鼓勵不同學院的老師和同學透過出席於聯合書院飯堂舉行的晚宴，加強彼此溝通，亦加深對書院的認識。此計劃是書院非形式教育的一部份。本年度最後一次的「師生共膳計劃」歡迎院內所有老師及同學報名，詳情如下:

United College Dinner

The United College Dinner was first launched in 2006 and its main objective is to facilitate more interactions between the College staff and students outside class. It is a part of the College non-formal education. The last gathering of this year is open to all teachers and students of the College. Details are as below:

書院儲物箱

由於學期即將完結，畢業班同學須盡快清理儲物箱內所有物件，並在2010年5月20日前於辦公時間內，前往書院學生輔導處辦理交還儲物箱鎖匙及領回按金的手續。大學會計部將安排按金轉帳至各同學之銀行戶口。逾期仍不辦理者，本院將清理箱內物件及沒收按金。查詢請致電2609 7573與書院學生輔導處張富恆先生聯絡。

Lockers at United College

All final-year students holding lockers at United College are required to return the locker keys and complete the deposit refund process at the Dean of Students' Office during office hours on or before 20 May 2010. Locker deposits will be refunded to the bank accounts by the Bursary in due course. Failure on returning the locker key before deadline will result in deposit forfeiture. Articles inside the locker will also be removed. For enquiries, please contact Mr Henry F H Cheung of the College Dean of Students' Office at 2609 7573.

書院通識科目【實踐領導才】結業

由聯合書院及香港童軍總會合辦的書院通識科目GEU2018【實踐領導才】，於2010年3月25日正式完結。聯合書院及香港童軍總會於課堂後向學員派發證書，隨後嘉賓、導師及學員在思源館分享經驗及心得，導師及學員均對課程運作及學習經驗感到滿意。結業禮出席嘉賓包括香港童軍總會總監陳傑柱先生、院長馮國培教授、書院輔導長王香生教授、書院通識教育主任余濟美教授及院務主任李雷寶玲女士。

Closing Ceremony for College General Education Course “Leadership in Practice”

Jointly organised by the Scout Association of Hong Kong, the College General Education elective course GEU2018 “Leadership in Practice” was ended on 25 March 2010. A closing ceremony has been organised immediately after class. Certificates were presented to students by the Scout Association of Hong Kong. Participants had a sharing session at the Si Yuan Amenities Centre after the ceremony. Both instructors and students were satisfied with the course operation and learning experiences. Guests attended the closing ceremony included Mr Anthony K C Chan, Chief Commissioner of Scout Association of Hong Kong, Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, Professor Jimmy C M Yu, Dean of General Education and Mrs Christina Li, College Secretary. 

本院同學於國際演講會K3分區國際演講會即席演講比賽奪獎

聯合書院國際演講會會長黃家耀同學(計量金融學/四年級)及副會長(公關)黃晶貞同學(酒店及旅遊管理學/三年級)於2010年3月20日代表聯合書院國際演講會參加國際演講會K3分區國際演講會即席演講比賽，分別奪得亞軍及季軍。

UC Students Won Awards in Area K3 Toastmasters Club Table Topics Contest

United College students, Mr Steve K Y Wong (QFN/4), President of the United College Toastmasters Club (UCTMC) and Miss Chelsea C C Wong (HMG/3), Vice-President (Public Relations) of UCTMC, won the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively in the Area K3 Toastmaster Club and Table Topic Contest on 20 March 2010.

崇基學院、新亞書院、聯合書院及逸夫書院的國際演講會於2010年3月22日(星期一)假香港中文大學西部教學大樓二號講室合辦第二屆中大四院國際演講會演講比賽。本院國際演講會副會長(公關)黃晶貞同學(酒店及旅遊管理學/三年級)及副會長(會員)黃德琪同學(翻譯/二年級)代表聯合書院國際演講會參加即席演講比賽並勇奪冠軍及亞軍。

College Students Won Awards in CUHK Toastmasters Inter-College Contest

Chung Chi College, New Asia College, United College and Shaw College Toastmasters Clubs jointly organised the 2nd CUHK Toastmasters Inter-College Contest on Monday, 22 March 2010 at LT2, Teaching Complex of Western Campus. Miss Chelsea C C Wong (HMG/3), Vice-President (Public Relations) of the United College Toastmasters Club (UCTMC), and Miss Ada T K Wong (TRA/3), Vice-President (Membership) of the UCTMC won the Champion and 1st runner-up respectively in the Table Topic Contest.

考試期間送贈生果

聯合書院學生飯堂於考試期間(2010年4月29日至5月15日)晚市時段，送贈新鮮生果給書院同學，為同學打氣，費用悉數由書院資助。

Fresh Fruit for UC Students

Sponsored by the College, the College Student Canteen will supply free fresh fruit to students during the examination period form 29 April to 15 May 2010 in the evening.

由書院2007級社「心聯社」籌辦的2010畢業晚宴定於2010年5月18日 (星期二) 晩上6時30分假旺角朗豪酒店四十二樓星願亭餐廳舉行，讓應屆畢業同學能夠在離開校園前再次聚首一堂。晚宴餐費分別為330元(教職員及校友)及130元(學生)。有興趣參加者可致電2609 8655與本院周鍾寶華女士或9656 1357或6273 9039與 2007級社代表趙元龍同學或蔡潔盈同學聯絡。

香港童軍中心之旅

由聯合書院學生輔導處及學生身心健康工作小組合辦的「香港童軍中心之旅」將於2010年5月17日(星期一)下午2時半至5時半假九龍柯士甸道童軍徑香港童軍中心舉行。活動內容包括由傑出青年協會前主席王津太平紳士主講「義務工作經驗」小型講座及參觀童軍總會設施，並會安排下午茶接待出席同學。本活動獲岑維休先生德育計劃資助，並列為馮燊均先生全人發展獎勵計劃的認可德育活動。

活動以廣東話進行，書院設專車接送，由聯合書院校園出發，費用全免，歡迎書院同學參加。有興趣參加的聯合同學請於大學E-Ticketing登記 (www.cuhk.edu.hk/eticket) ，選擇 “UC General Education Activities”，截止報名日期為2010年5月12日。名額先到先得，查詢請致電2696 1947與書院學生輔導處溫嘉蕙女士聯絡。

Tour to Hong Kong Scout Centre

Jointly organised by the United College Dean of Students’ Office and the Taskforce on Students’ Well-being, the tour to the Hong Kong Scout Centre in Austin Road will be held on Monday, 17 May 2010 from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. The visit will include a talk on “Experience in Voluntary Service” by Mr Justein Wong Chun, JP, former President, the Outstanding Young Persons’ Association, followed by a guided tour of the Scout Centre. A tea gathering will be arranged for participants. The activity is sponsored by the Mr Shum Wai Yau Moral Education Scheme and recognized as an activity under the moral category of the Mr Fung Sun Kwan Whole Person Development Award Programme.

The activity will be conducted in Cantonese, and the College will arrange free transportation for participants from campus to the Scout Centre. All College students are welcome to join, please register via the CUHK E-Ticketing system (www.cuhk.edu.hk/eticket) and choose “UC General Education Activities” on or before 12 May 2010 on first-come-first-served basis. For enquiries, please contact Ms Wan Ka-wai at 2696 1947 of the Dean of Students’ Office.

Student Union News

At its general meeting held on 22 March 2010, the College Student Union Council endorsed the formation of a Provisional Administration Committee (PAC) to oversee the day-to-day administration of the Student Union from 22 March in view of the absence of an elected Student Union Executive Committee for 2010-2011. The recent Student Union Cabinet election was found invalid due to insufficient votes casted. PAC’s terms of service will end till the formation of the Executive Committee or on 28 February 2011. 聯合書院校友講座第九講

為增進同學與校友間的聯繫，由2005年起，書院與書院校友會合辦一系列的「聯合書院校友講座」，邀請在社會上各行各業有卓越成就的校友，與在校的師弟師妹們分享他們在事業上、人生旅途上的各種經歷與體會。校友講座將以高桌晚宴形式舉行，讓聯合同學在輕鬆的環境下與主講校友嘉賓交流認識。

校友講座的第九講已於2010年3月29日晚上7時假聯合書院張祝珊師生康樂大樓文怡閣舉行，書院邀請得1977年社會學系校友，從心會社主席吳思源校友擔任主講嘉賓，以「當幸運來敲門——談運氣與人生」為講題，與八十位聯合同學分享他的心得。

United College Alumni Talk (9th Talk)

From 2005, the College and the Alumni Association have jointly organised a series of alumni talks for students. Distinguished alumni from all walks of life are invited to share with fellow students on their career and life experiences. The Alumni Talk is organised in the format of high table dinner, providing students and alumni with a relaxing atmosphere for learning and communication.

The ninth Alumni Talk was held on 29 March 2010, 7:00 pm at the Staff Common Room, Cheung Chuk Shan Amenities Building. The College has invited Mr Ng Sze-yuen, Chairman of Soul-Mate Co. Ltd., to share with 80 UC students on "Good Luck and Life". Mr Ng is a 1977 United College alumnus who majored in Sociology.

聯合書院天文觀測入門講座──小口徑便攜觀星裝備簡介

由聯合書院舉辦之天文觀測入門講座已於2010年3月31日晚上假鄭棟材樓C2講室舉行。是次講座主題為「小口徑便攜觀星裝備簡介」，由「香港天文學會」資深會員唐國華先生及前「坐井會」會長黃隆先生向同學講解便攜式望遠鏡的種類、特點及使用方法等，並讓同學操作各種儀器，初步學習使用技巧。

United College Astronomy Talk - Introduction to Portable Star Gazing Equipment

The astronomy talk organised by United College was held on 31 March 2010 at C2 lecture hall of the T C Cheng Building. The topic was “Introduction to Portable Star Gazing Equipment”. During the talk, Mr Tong Kwok-wah, experienced member of the Hong Kong Astronomy Society, and Mr Wong Lung, former-chairman of the Sky Observers' Association (Hong Kong) introduced types, features and application methods of different portable telescopes to our students, and let students operate the equipments to gain hands-on experience on basic operation techniques.

2010至2011年度學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃

2010至11年度(7/2010–6/2011)書院學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃第一輪撥款將接受申請。該計劃旨在協助學生獲得經濟奬勵及工作經驗。書院學生輔導處將於五月十四日寄發申請資料予本院教職員。如有查詢，請致電2696 1947或2609 8657與學生輔導處溫嘉蕙女士或陳鄧翠怡女士查詢。截止申請日期為2010年6月1日，結果將於六月底前通知各申請人。

本院學生奪大專聯校管理個案挑戰賽季軍

本院黃家恆同學（工商管理/二）及余美華同學（工商管理/二）與三位隊友參與本年度的大專聯校管理個案挑戰賽，獲得季軍殊榮。本年度的參賽隊伍須撰寫方案，解決一間科技公司的人事管理問題。

United College Students Won Second Runner-up of the Joint University Business Management Challenge

College students, Mr Wong Ka-hang (BBA/2), Ms Yu Mei-wa (BBA/2) and their three team members won the second runner-up of the Joint University Business Management Challenge. This year, participating teams were asked to provide feasible solutions to tackle the human resources management issue of a technology company.

書院於2010年3月18日下午3時30分於書院文怡閣舉行學生團體茶聚，合共二十四個聯合書院學生團體的代表出席，就學生活動交換意見。

Tea Gathering for UC Student Organisations

The College organised a tea gathering for all the College Student Organisations on 18 March 2010, 3:30 pm at the College Staff Common Room. Student representatives from twenty-four student organisations participated in the gathering and exchanged opinions on student activities.
