署理輔導長任命

書院輔導長王香生教授於2010年8月2至13日休假，由課程與教學學系麥陳淑賢教授出任署理輔導長。

Appointment of Acting Dean of Students

Professor Stephen H S Wong, Dean of Students, was on leave from 2 to 13 August 2010. Professor Barley Mak, Department of Curriculum & Instruction was the Acting Dean of Students during the above period.
　
訂購「祝賀高錕教授榮獲2009年諾貝爾物理學獎」通用郵票小型張及紀念小冊子

Ordering Definitive Stamp Sheetlet and Souvenir Bookletof "Congratulations to Professor Charles K Kao on his award of the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics"

The Hongkong Post is issuing a Definitive Stamp Sheetlet and a Souvenir Booklet to commemorate Professor Charles Kao on his award of the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics on 21 September 2010.Part of the proceeds from sales of the Souvenir Booklet will be donated to “Charles K Kao Foundation for Alzheimer’s Disease Limited”. CUHK students, staff and alumni may download the leaflet and order form from http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/cpr/HKPO_Leaflet_OrderForm.pdf. 2010-2011年度新生開學典禮

本年度書院新生開學典禮將於2010年9月10日（星期五）下午1時30分假邵逸夫堂舉行，歡迎本院員生蒞臨觀禮，書院安排於典禮期間拍攝大合照及於正午12時假文怡閣舉行午餐，敬希教職員踴躍出席支持。午餐後將有專車接載嘉賓由書院張祝珊師生康樂大樓前往邵逸夫堂出席典禮。

Initiation Ceremony for Freshmen 2010-2011

The 2010-2011 Initiation Ceremony for Freshmen will be held on Friday, 10 September 2010 at 1:30 pm at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. All College members are invited to join the College in welcoming this year’s freshmen. A group photograph will be taken during the Ceremony and staff members are also invited to join the Luncheon before the Ceremony at 12:00 noon at the College Staff Common Room. Shuttle buses will be arranged to take staff members from College Staff Common Room to Sir Run Run Shaw Hall for the Ceremony.

聯合書院五十四周年院慶典禮

書院五十四周年院慶典禮訂於2010年10月22日（星期五）上午11時30分假大學邵逸夫堂舉行。書院校董會主席岑才生太平紳士及香港特別行政區政府社會福利署副署長蔣慶華先生(74/社工)將擔任主禮嘉賓。典禮詳情將於稍後公布。
　
United College 54th Anniversary Ceremony

The Ceremony marking the 54th Anniversary of United College will be held on Friday, 22 October 2010 at 11:30 am at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall of the University. Mr Shum Choi-sang, SBS, JP, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees and Mr Cheung Hing-wah, BBS, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, will officiate at the Ceremony. Mr Cheung is 1974 College alumnus, majoring in Social Work. Details of the Ceremony will be announced later.

　
第六十六期《聯合校刊》徵稿

《聯合校刊》乃書院每年出版一次之重要刊物。《聯合校刊》除記載書院名錄、學生生活及當年大事外，亦刊登員生著作，以豐富內容及提高趣味性。本院出版委員會現為2009-10年度《聯合校刊》(第六十六期)向各教職員、同學及校友徵稿，來稿可以中文或英文撰寫，題材及類別不限，字數約二千至二千五百字為合。

Calling for Articles for the United Bulletin Volume 66

An annual publication of United College, United Bulletin, not only serves as an official chronicle of College personalia, student activities and major events, but also features literary works written by College staff members and students. College Publications Committee would like to invite contribution of articles to United Bulletin 2009-10 (Volume 66). Each article should be around 2000 to 2500 words, written in English or Chinese on any topic and genre.

「常宗豪教授紀念獎學金」籌設啟事

2010年6月26日，中文系榮休教授暨聯合書院校友會顧問常宗豪教授在澳門因病辭世，家人親友學生莫不深切悲慟。

常教授六十年代初入讀香港中文大學中文系，畢業後以優異成績留校任教；一九七八年出任中文系系主任，一九九七年榮休。教授學殖深醇，儒林望重；春風化雨，桃李芳菲。今教授遽然仙逝，本院中文系校友同仁為感栽育之恩，成立「常宗豪教授紀念獎學金」籌設小組，以籌設「常宗豪教授紀念獎學金」，薪承教授樂育人才、嘉惠學子之精神。今特呼籲各界人士及校友慷慨捐款成立紀念獎學金，以為永念。有關捐款詳情，請參閱書院網頁: http://www2.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/cht/giving_to_united_college/。
　
Establishment of Professor Sheung Chung Ho Memorial Scholarship

Professor Sheung Chung Ho, former Chairman of Department of Chinese Language and Consultant of United College Alumni Association, passed away in Macau on 26 June 2010. The family relatives and students of Professor Sheung were saddened by the news.

Professor Sheung studied in The Chinese University of Hong Kong in early 1960, majoring in Chinese Language. He kicked off his teaching career in the University immediately after graduation with very outstanding academic achievements. In 1978, Professor Sheung became the Chairman of the Department of Chinese Language until his retirement in 1997. He was a renowned and knowledgable scholar, who gained great respect from his students. To show respect and deep gratitude to Professor Sheung, a group of alumni from Department of Chinese Language and Literature set up a Memorial Scholarship Working Group and would like to establish the Professor Sheung Chung Ho Memorial Scholarship. Please support and donate generously to United College for setting up this new scholarship in memory of Professor Sheung. 獎學金得獎人講座系列第四講——羅德學人講座

羅德獎學金是一項歷史悠久，國際知名的獎學金。不少羅德學人在國際舞台上有著舉足輕重的地位，得獎者包括前美國總統克林頓（Bill Clinton）、前澳洲總理霍克（Bob Hawke）及2001年諾貝爾經濟學獎得主斯彭思教授（Professor A Michael Spence）等。中文大學過去亦曾有十三位畢業生獲此殊榮前往牛津大學深造，其中七位為聯合書院的畢業生，包括去年的得獎者鄭華哲校友。他們於投身社會後在法律、銀行、金融及社會科學等各行各業擔任要職。

2011年度羅德獎學金現正接受申請，得獎者可獲全額資助，於明年10月赴英國牛津大學深造。所有於2011年10月1日年滿19至24歲，並於該日期前獲得榮譽學士學位人士均可報名，截止申請日期為2010年9月29日。詳情可瀏覽網頁：http://www.rhodestrust.org/countrysites.htm。

為增加同學對此獎學金的認識，聯合書院將於2010年9月舉行羅德學人講座及分享會，日期及地點容後公布。書院邀得聯合羅德學人王鳴峰大律師及資深書院導師黃鉅鴻教授出席講座，與同學分享經驗及申請獎學金的心得。歡迎所有聯合同學出席講座。有興趣出席的同學請致電 2696 1696 向本院陳敏樂女士查詢。
Lecture Series by Scholarship Recipients (Lecture 4) ―Rhodes Scholar Lecture

The Rhodes scholarship is the oldest and one of the most prestigious international fellowships. Many scholars has become world leaders in different industries, such as Bill Clinton, former President of the United States; Bob Hawke, former Prime Minister of Australia; and Professor A Michael Spence, Nobel Laureate in Economics in 2001. Thirteen CUHK graduates, seven of whom being United College alumni including the 2010 recipient, Mr Timothy Cheng, have been awarded the Scholarship, and they have subsequently excelled in a variety of industries ranging from law, banking and finance, to social sciences.

The Rhodes Scholarship 2011 is now open for application, the awardees will be fully subsidized for pursuing further studies in Oxford University, United Kingdom. Students who have passed their nineteenth but not their twenty-fifth birthday by 1 October 2011 and have obtained an honours degree before the said date are eligible to apply. To enhance students' understanding on the Rhodes scholarship, the College will hold a Rhodes Scholars Sharing Lecture for United College students in September 2010 (Date and venue to be confirmed). The College has invited the Rhodes Scholar from UC, Mr William Wong Ming-fung, Barrister-at-Law and Senior College Tutor, Professor Jeremiah Wong, to attend the Lecture and share their experience with the students.
