聯合書院五十四周年院慶紀盛

書院五十四周年院慶典禮及多項慶祝活動已於10月22日圓滿舉行。書院及學生會攜手共賀書院生日，舉行了一連串活動，包括10月15日下午舉行的「院慶活動開幕禮」及「聯合起跑」、10月18日舉行的「大笪地」及於22日正日舉行的五十四周年院慶典禮，嘉賓及學生逾千人出席參與盛會。典禮後，書院隨即於校園舉行由學生會主持的院慶生日會。會上除有傳統醒獅助慶外，書院教職員聯誼會更送出一個大蛋糕，倍增喜氣。

慶祝活動的高潮為22日晚於校園舉行的千人宴，雖然受天氣影響，亦有近千師生、校友及同學參加。晚會節目安排豐富，除了樂隊、舞蹈表演及幸運抽獎外，還有壓軸嘉賓SOLAR演唱流行曲多首，令全場盡歡。當晚所有抽獎禮物均由熱心書院同寅、校董及校友贊助，書院校友會更慷慨送出全場燒豬。晚會直至11時多才在全場盡歡的氣氛中結束。

United College 54th Anniversary Celebrations

Weeks of celebration activities including the Opening Ceremony, UC Fun Run, Open Bazaar and the 54th Anniversary Ceremony were concluded on 22 October 2010. Over a thousand students and guests of the College attended the Anniversary Ceremony at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The Ceremony was followed by a Birthday Party held on the College campus. The celebration reached its climax with the lion dance by the College Chinese Martial Arts Society and the cutting of birthday cake sponsored by the College Staff Association.

The highlight of the anniversary activities was the “feast-for-a-thousand” held in the evening. About 1,000 College staff, students, alumni and guests enjoyed the dinner in spite of the bad weather. College Trustees, alumni and staff donated an assortment of prizes for the raffle. The College Alumni Association sponsored barbecue pigs for the banquet. It was a wonderful night with a variety show performed by students as well as pop band SOLAR.

2009至2010年度書院畢業典禮

2009-2010 Graduation Ceremony

The 2009-10 UC Graduation Ceremony will be held on Thursday, 16 December 2010 at 12:30pm at the University’s Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. Professor Stephen Y L Cheung (82/MAT), Dean of the School of Business, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Ms Lina H Y Yan (69/ENG), President of the Alumni Association of United College, will be the officiating guests of the Ceremony. 「到訪傑出學人」郭保山教授及杜爾琦教授

美國普林斯頓大學(Princeton University) 心理學榮休講座教授郭保山(Sam Glucksberg)及紐約市立大學(City

University of New York)研究生中心心理學榮休傑出講座教授杜爾琦(Kay Deaux) 出任本年度書院「到訪傑出學人」，夫婦倆人於2010年10月15日至30日到訪香港。

郭保山教授主持的公開講座題目為「道德風險與媒體風險：隱喻如何塑造思想及社會政策」，而杜爾琦教授的講題是「移民的寫照：轉變的地方及臉孔」。兩位教授出席的學術活動包括由心理學系和教育心理學系安排的研討會、夜話及研究生會面等；他們亦於10月22日出席書院五十四周年的慶祝活動。書院感謝各相關單位及老師的協助，使郭教授和杜教授的訪問能完滿完成。

Distinguished Visiting Scholars- Professor Sam Glucksberg and Professor Kay Deaux

Professor Sam Glucksberg, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, Princeton University and Professor Kay Deaux, Professor Emerita of Psychology, Graduate Center of the City University of New York, visited Hong Kong between 15 and 30 October 2010 as the College’s Distinguished Visiting Scholars in 2010-11. 

Professor Glucksberg’s public lecture topic was “Moral Hazards and Media Hazards: How Metaphors Shape Thought and Social Policy”, and Professor Deaux talked on “To Be an Immigrant: Changing Places and Faces”. They both attended the departmental seminar, night talk and meeting with postgraduate students organized by the Department of Psychology and Department of Educational Psychology. Professor Glucksberg and Professor Deaux also participated in the 54th Anniversary activities held on 22 October 2010. The College would like to thank those units and colleagues involved, for making the visitation a success. 

 書院聚會——游走熱情與專業之間:個人的歷程

2010年10月11日假大學邵逸夫堂舉行的書院聚會中，「洽蕙藝文訪問學人」姚進莊博士以「游走熱情與專業之間:個人的歷程」為題和同學分享其個人成長及發展專業之路，同學深受啟發。

 College Assembly - Negotiating Passion & Profession: A Personal Journey

At the College Assembly held on 11 October 2010 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall, Dr Josh Yiu, Hop Wai Visiting Fellow in Art and Culture delivered a talk on “Negotiating Passion & Profession: A Personal Journey”, and shared with United College students his path of personal growth, as well as his academic and professional development. The audience was inspired by Dr Yiu’s talk.

書院聚會——中國科學院及中國工程院院士講座系列第六講

於2010年11月5日，書院蒙 中國工程院院士徐揚生教授擔任書院聚會演講嘉賓，以「智能機械人:從空間到千家萬戶」為題，與一千四百多位聯合同學於邵逸夫堂分享他在學術研究上的發展及在改善人類生活上實踐應用的成果。講座內容豐富，其間播放多段珍貴和富啟發性的智能機械人影片，同學反應熱烈。

College Assembly- Lecture Series of Members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Members of Chinese Academy of Engineering (Lecture 6)

The College Assembly-Lecture Series of Members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Members of Chinese Academy of Engineering was held on 5 November 2010 at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The College was honoured to have Professor Xu Yangsheng, Academician, Chinese Academy of Engineering, to be the guest speaker with the topic "Intelligent Robots: from Space to Household". Professor Xu shared with the audience his academic research development, as well as the application of his research in improving the daily life of human beings. The talk was well

received by over 1,400 United College students. The lecture was illustrated with precious and inspiring video clips of intelligent robots, which was welcomed by the audience.

美育發展計劃：《藝術中與西》講座系列

由祟基學院及聯合書院主辦，由洽蕙藝術及文化發展基金贊助，聯合書院藝術顧問利漢楨教授與美國西雅圖藝術博物館中國部主任姚進莊博士及書院導師暨中大藝術系兼任講師張惠儀博士合作開辦《藝術中與西》講座，課題為「中外藝術館」，已於2010年11月4日完成。參加者從講座中瞭解到不同博物館的收藏及特色，獲益良多。

渣打馬拉松2011——聯合書院隊

渣打馬拉松2011將於2011年2月20日（星期日）舉行，為鼓勵聯合員生及校友參與這項體壇盛事，書院健康促進小組、書院生活委員會及教職員聯誼會將為聯合書院隊運動員預備紀念品及資助學生部分報名費，並舉行講座及熱身跑，歡迎員生及校友參加。詳情請致電2696 1697 或 2696 1947與本院梁應得先生或溫嘉蕙

Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2011- United College Team

The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2011 will take place on Sunday, 20 February 2011. To encourage our students, staff members and alumni to participate, United College Task Force on Health Promotion, College Life Committee and Staff Association will prepare a souvenir for each United College athlete and offer partial sponsorship to participating students, as well as organise Lecture and Trial Run sessions. 1) 本院成員社會工作學系林靜雯教授獲勞工及福利局局長委任為暴力及執法傷亡賠償委員會委員，任期兩年，由    2010年6月19日生效。

2) 本院成員生物醫學學院Professor Helen Wise 獲食物及衛生局局長委任為藥劑業及毒藥上訴審裁處委員，任期兩年，2010年8月14日生效。

3) 本院成員生命科學學院朱利民教授獲環境局局長委任為保護稀有動植物諮詢委員會委員，任期兩年，由2010年10月1日生效。

4) 本院成員微生物學系陳基湘教授獲委任為衛生署衛生防護中心新發現及動物傳染科學委員會委員，任期三年，由2010年7月生效。

5) 本院成員大學安全及環境事務處處長林樹佳先生獲邀請為香港工人健康中心2010至11年名譽專業顧問。林先生亦獲邀請擔任香港認可處環境測試工作小組認證委員會委員，任期三年，由2010年7月生效。林先生亦獲再度委任為職業安全健康局委員，任期兩年，由2010年8月22日生效。

6) 本院成員系統工程及工程管理學系蒙美玲教授獲委任為大學教育資助委員會委員，任期由2010年8月1日至2012年6月30日。蒙教授同時獲委任為香港工程師學會2010至2011年度電腦科學課程認證委員會委員。

7) 本院校友梁美芬博士（87/政政）獲再度委任為證券及期貨事務監察委員會程序覆檢委員會委員，任期兩年，由2010年11月1日生效。

8) 本院校友顧爾言先生（70/中文）獲委任為藝術發展諮詢委員會委員，任期兩年，由2010年11月1日生效。

9) 本院校友財務匯報局主席高靜芝女士（70/工管）獲再度委任為財務匯報局程序覆檢委員會當然委員，任期由2010年11月1日至2012年11月30日。

Community Services

1) College Member, Professor Lam Ching-man, Professor in the Department of Social Work, has been appointed by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare as member of the Criminal and Law Enforcement Injuries Compensation Boards for two years from 19 June 2010.

2) College Member, Professor Helen Wise, Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences, has been appointed by the Secretary for Food and Health as member of the Pharmacy and Poisons Appeal Tribunal for two years from 14 August 2010.

3) College Member, Professor Chu Lee-man, Professor in the School of Life Sciences, has been appointed by the Secretary for the Environment as member of the Endangered Species Advisory Committee for two years from 1 October 2010.

4) College Member, Professor Chan Kay-sheung, Professor in the Department of Microbiology, has been appointed as member of the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Zoonotic Diseases of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health for three years from July 2010.

5) College Member, Mr Lam Shi-kai, Director of the University Safety and Environment Office, has been invited to serve as honorary professional adviser of the Hong Kong Worker’s Health Centre for 2010-2011, and as member of Accreditation Board Working Party on Environmental Testing of the Hong Kong Accreditation Service for three years from July 2010. Mr Lam has also been re-appointed as member of the Occupational Safety and Health Council for two years from 22 August 2010.

6) College Member, Professor Meng Mei-ling, Professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, has been appointed as member of the Research Grants Council from 1 August 2010 to 30 June 2012, and by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers as appointed member of the Accreditation Committee for Computer Science Programmes for Session 2010-11.

7) College alumna, Dr Priscilla Leung Mei-fun (87/GPA), has been re-appointed as member of the Process Review Panel for the Securities and Futures Commission for two years, with effect from 1 November 2010.

8) College alumnus, Mr Irving Y Y Koo (70/CHI), has been appointed as member of the Advisory Committee on Arts Development for two years, with effect from 1 November 2010.

9) College alumna, Ms Sophia C C Kao (70/BBA), Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), has been re-appointed as ex-officio member of the Process Review Panel for the FRC from 1 November 2010 to 30 November 2012.

聯合書院學長運動培訓計劃

書院於2010-11學年推出「學長運動培訓計劃」，邀請精於運動培訓及比賽的校友擔任學長院隊教練，讓書院代表隊成員在學長教練的指導和扶持下，充分發揮他們的學術與運動潛能。

United College Sports Mentorship Programme

United College has launched the “United College Sports Mentorship Programme” in academic year. Alumni who are experienced in sports training and competitions have been invited to be mentor coaches of the College's sports teams. Athletes can enhance their performance in academic development and acquire better sports skills under the guidance of the mentors.
