| 中大健康促進及防護委員會消息 |
|
香港現正處於冬季流感高峰期，健康促進及防護委員會希望呼籲各位嚴格執行防禦措施預防流感。根據衞生防護中心的監測數據，本港的流感活躍程度在過去數星期持續上升，近九成患者感染甲型(H1N1)人類豬型流感病毒。大部分人口(包括兒童、青少年及成年人)都未有免疫力或未接種疫苗。今年本港已錄得九宗人類豬型流感死亡個案。截至2月8日， 有三十八名嚴重流感病人在公立醫院深切治療部留醫。 過去數星期，因上呼吸道感染或流感類疾病而到保健處的求診人次有明顯增加，委員會聯同保健處正密切監察校內及社區的流感情況。物業管理處和各書院會加強校園及宿舍公共地方的清潔工作，校內主要建築物和宿舍設有消毒洗手液機，各宿舍亦會儲備外科口罩、酒精搓手液和消毒劑。請各位繼續保持警覺，建立良好的衛生習慣，以預防流感及防止病毒傳播。 |

News from the
University Committee on Health Protection and
Promotion The Committee on Health Promotion and Protection (CHPP) would like to remind all members of the University to take serious precautionary measures against influenza as Hong Kong is now still at the peak of influenza season. According to the surveillance data of the Centre for Health Protection, influenza activity in Hong Kong has been on significant rise in recent weeks and nearly 90% of the currently diagnosed influenza is of the H1N1 human swine flu type. The majority of the population including children, adolescents and young adults do not possess any immunity and have not been vaccinated yet. Nine fatal cases associated with human swine influenza are recorded so far this year. As of 8 February, there were 38 severe influenza patients admitted into intensive care units of the public hospitals in Hong Kong. CHPP, together with the University Health Service, is closely monitoring the influenza situation on campus and in the community. We have also observed a significant increase in the clinic attendance in the past few weeks. Cleansing and disinfection of the public areas in campus and student hostels will be stepped up by the Estates Management Office and Colleges. Hand sanitizer stations have been installed in main buildings and student hostels. Face masks, alcohol-based hand-rubs and disinfectants are being stocked up at student hostels. Staff and students are reminded to stay alert and practise good health habits to minimize the spread of germs and prevent influenza. |

Kao: The Father of Fibre Optics" Showcase Science Park has built its latest project-the "Professor Charles K. Kao: The Father of Fibre Optics" Showcase, which is aimed at encouraging the public as well as the next generation of engineers, scientists and technology entrepreneurs to follow Professor Kao’s lead of realising aspirations to create a better world through perseverance and dedication to the pursuit of knowledge. Through a series of exhibits and interactive games, the Showcase offers information on Professor Kao’s life and accomplishments. The basic concept of fibre optics is also explained in an easy-to-understand way with introduction on real-life applications and its future development.
