香港中文大學聯合書院校董暨書院基金會委員鍾汝滔教授於2011年2月27日辭世，本院同仁深表哀悼。
鍾教授自1975年加入聯合書院校董會，並於1991年起出任基金會成員，為聯合書院的發展，勞心勞力，扶掖不斷，愛護有嘉，建樹良多。本院同仁永遠銘感鍾汝滔教授在本港高等教育的成就與貢獻，並謹向鍾教授家人致以最深切的慰問。
United College records with deep sadness the passing away of our Trustee and Member of Endowment Fund Committee, Professor Y T Chung, on 27 February 2011.
Professor Chung had been appointed as Member of College Trustee since 1975, and had served the Endowment Fund Committee of United College since 1991.He gave invaluable advice and guidance to United College over the years and made distinguished contributions. His significant accomplishments to the development of the tertiary education in Hong Kong will be forever cherished.

踏入2011年，聯合書院將慶祝五十五周年院慶，並舉辦一連串的慶祝活動。
為應付2012因教育改革而推行的「三三四學制」，而同時收錄中六及中七入學的兩批學生， 聯合書院於2012年及其後數年須相應增加資源，以配合各項獎助學金及學生活動。書院將藉著五十五周年院慶推行籌款活動，並由2011年1月1日至2012年7月30日期間，凡捐贈港幣一萬元或以上者，將鐫名於日後建於聯合書院校園的銘謝牌匾上。

Entering 2011, the College has organised a series of activities to celebrate the 55th anniversary of United College.
With the implementation of the 3-3-4 academic reform, United College will be admitting a double cohort of students in 2012. A fundraising campaign will be launched with the College’s 55th Anniversary celebrations, so as to meet the various needs and challenges ahead arising from the increased student numbers in 2012-2015. The College will establish a donations commemorative plaque on the College campus in recognition of the generous support of donors for donations of HK$10,000 or above received during the 55th anniversary celebration period from 1 January 2011 to 31 July 2012.

本年度書院獎學金頒獎典禮已於2011年4月13日下午5時30分假香港中文大學邵逸夫堂舉行。是日蒙 書院校董兼書院校友會會長殷巧兒女士蒞臨主禮，並蒙 多位校董及捐獎人撥冗親臨觀禮。此外亦有獲獎同學、家長、校友、大學及書院同仁等近五百人到賀，場面十分熱鬧。書院於典禮後分別設茶會及晚宴招待獲獎同學、家長及捐獎人。
The 2010-2011 United College Scholarship Presentation Ceremony was held on 13 April 2011 at 5:30 pm in the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. Ms Lina H Y Yan, College Trustee and President of United College Alumni Association was the officiating guest. Also gracing the Ceremony were various scholarship donors and trustees of the College. Around 500 guests, including the award recipients and their parents, alumni, officers of the University and the College were present. A tea reception and dinner were hosted by the College after the Ceremony for the award recipients, their parents and the donors respectively.

展覽，已於2011年4月4日假崇基學院行政樓大堂展覽廳開幕。當日先以豎琴及雙簧管演奏悠揚樂曲，為儀式揭開序幕。隨後由校長沈祖堯教授、聯合書院院長馮國培教授及崇基學院院長梁元生教授致辭。是次將展出利漢楨教授六十多年師友贈答之作品，涵蓋了不同時代，多種不同類型作品，內容豐富，精彩多元。展期至2011年5月4日止。
The Opening Ceremony of the exhibition
took
place on 4 April 2011 at Lobby Gallery, Chung
Chi College Administration BBuilding. The exhibition, co-organised by United College, Chung Chi College and Art Museum of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The opening ceremony began with a harp and oboe duo recital. Professor Joseph J Y Sung, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, United College and Professor Leung Yuen-sang, College Head, Chung Chi College then addressed guests to officiate the opening ceremony.
This exhibition features the works gifted to Professor Lee Hon-ching, Art Adviser of United College, over 60 years by his teachers and friends. The exhibition will last until 4 May 2011.

The eighth issue of United We Advance has been published in February 2011. The theme of this issue is “Tribute to Professor and Mrs Charles K Kao” for distribution to various departments/units of the University, tertiary institutions, public libraries, all members of United College Alumni Association as well as secondary schools in Hong Kong. The Editorial Committee of United We Advance also invites articles from staff, alumni and students of United College. 書院與大學藝術行政主任辦公室攜手於2011年3月至4月合辦「戲劇講座系列」，以推廣戲劇教育及慶賀書院成立五十五周年。講座系列共分三講，講者為資深戲劇導演、媒體文化節目主持兼書院導師蔡錫昌先生。講座系列獲大學及書院員生、校友一致好評，出席人數逾一百二十人。
第一和第二講於分別於3月4日及25日在大學邵逸夫堂大堂舉行，題目包括「四十五年戲劇路」和「香港舞台劇透視」，蔡錫昌先生先後邀請了香港藝術發展局副主席兼資深演員殷巧兒女士、著名編劇杜國威先生和恒生商學書院翻譯學部主任兼華文戲劇專家方梓勳教授作特別嘉賓。蔡先生在這兩個講座中，除了分享了他個人在參與話劇製作及戲劇教育的心路歷程之外，更藉著嘉賓的參與和出席者的互動，剖析香港舞台劇在過去四十多年的生態環境。
最後一講亦已於4月8日假書院思源館舉行，題目為「戲劇——人文教育之鑰」，特別嘉賓包括香港演藝學院人文學科系主任張秉權博士及香港藝術發展局副主席兼資深演員殷巧兒女士，席間蔡錫昌先生及嘉賓暢論戲劇的「用處」及如何推動戲劇教育，深入探討香港人文教育的未來發展方向。
The College joined hands with the Office of The Arts Administrator in organising a “Drama Talk Series” in March and April 2011, so as to promote theatre education and celebrate the College’s 55th Anniversary. There were three talks in the series, with Mr Hardy S C Tsoi, veteran theatre director, media cultural programme host and College Tutor, as the speaker. The talk series were welcomed by staff, students and alumni of the University and College, with an attendance record of over 120.
The first two talks were held on 4 and 25 March 2011 respectively, and the topics were My Way - 45 Years in Local Theatre and A Perspective Study of Hong Kong Theatre. Mr Tsoi also invited Ms Lina H Y Yan, Vice-Chairperson of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and veteran actress, Mr To Kwok-wai, famous playwright and Professor Gilbert Z F Fong, Head of the Department of Translation, Hang Seng Management College as special guests. Interacting with the guests and audience, Mr Tsoi shared his experiences in theatre production and education for the past 45 years and described the ecological environment of the drama scenery in Hong Kong.
The last talk was held at the Si Yuan Amenities Centre on 8 April, and the topic was Drama is the Key to the Humanities. Special guests included Dr Cheung Ping-kuen, Head of Liberal Arts Studies, The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts as well as Ms Lina H Y Yan, veteran actress and Vice-chairperson of Hong Kong Arts Development Council. They discussed on the “use” of drama and ways to promote theatre education, especially on the future direction for the education of humanities in Hong Kong.

2) 兒童甜品製作工作坊
聯合書院思源文娛中心會所管理委員會將於4月份舉行兒童甜品製作工作坊，詳情如下:

3) 餐酒工作坊
聯合書院思源文娛中心會所管理委員會於2011年3月29日以「葡萄酒. 阿爾薩斯. 勃艮地」為題舉辦餐酒工作坊，由酒店及旅遊管理學院吳義恆先生擔任主講，逾三十多名師生及校友出席。

Supported by the College, Si Yuan Amenities Centre is now offering a special promotion to all students during examination period, daily sweet soup and selected tea sets are available at HK$6 and HK$10 only.
2) Workshop on Dessert Making for Kids
The College Si Yuan Amenities Centre Club Management Committee will organise a Dessert Making Workshop in April. Details are as below:

3) Wine Appreciation Workshop
United College Si Yuan Amenities Centre Club Management Committee organised a Wine Appreciation Workshop on 29 March 2011 on the theme of Vin. Alsace. Bourgogne. The speaker of the Workshop was Mr Walter Y H Ng, Professional Consultant of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management. Over 30 students, staff and alumni attended.
由聯合書院環保學會及書院環境委員會舉辦的「肥皂製作班」，於2011年4月2日假聯合書院思源文娛中心舉行。當日國際生舍堂榮譽舍監余黃燕萍女士示範如何利用廢油製作環保肥皂。參加的同學及教職員對於肥皂製作的過程極感興趣，並即場動手製作肥皂，反應熱烈。
United College Environmental Protection Society and Environment Committee jointly organised a Soap Making Class on 2 April 2011 at Si Yuan Amenities Centre. Mrs Joan Yu, Honorary Lady Warden, International House, demonstrated the procedures of making soap by recycled cooking oil. Then the participants, including students and staff, followed the procedures and made their own soap in a joyful atmosphere.
聯合書院2011年周年研討會已於2011年3月18日假香港中文大學李兆基樓一樓六號講堂舉行。今年的研討會主題為「香港獨立電影」，逾四百師生、校友及嘉賓出席。出席研討會的嘉賓講者包括張虹女士、李維怡女士、崔允信先生及翁子光先生。大會主持為文化及宗教研究系彭麗君教授。講者們與師生分享對香港獨立電影的見解，討論氣氛熱烈。
The United College Annual Workshop 2011 with the theme of Hong Kong Independent Cinema was held on 18 March 2011 at Lecture Theatre 6, 1/F, Lee Shau Kee Building, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Ms Tammy H Cheung, Ms Lee Wai-yee, Mr Vincent W S Chui and Mr Philip Z K Yung from the field were the speakers, with Professor Pang Lai-kwan of the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies as the Moderator. The workshop was well received by over 400 guests, staff and students of the College.
為慶祝聯合書院成立五十五周年，並向桂冠學人高錕教授伉儷致敬，書院於2011年3月23日（星期三）舉辦「高錕教授：光纖之父」展覽導賞團，並由電子工程學系陳錦泰教授及湛偉權教授擔任導賞員，讓參觀者對光纖和相關概念有更深入的認識，逾三十位中大同學、教職員、校友及家屬參加。
展覽由香港科技園公司主辦，展覽廳共分為四個區域，第一個區域集中介紹高錕教授的個人簡歷和成就，而其他區域則提供光纖的基本概念、光纖在日常生活中的各種應用及未來發展，參觀者還可以透過互動遊戲認識光纖傳輸光線背後的原理。展覽詳情請瀏覽http://charleskao.hkstp.org。
To celebrate its 55th Anniversary and pay tribute to Professor and Mrs Charles K Kao, United College Distinguished Laureate, the college organised a Guided Tour to Professor Charles K Kao: The Father of Fibre Optics Showcase on 23 March 2011.
Professor Chan Kam-tai and Professor Cham Wai-kuen from Department of Electronic Engineering guided the tour for more than 30 CUHK students, staff, alumni and families.
The exhibition is presented by Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. The showcase is divided into four zones. The first zone is dedicated to Professor Kao’s life and accomplishments, while the remaining zones highlight the basic concept of ibre optics, its various applications in daily life and future developments. Visitors can also familiarize themselves with the mechanics behind optical fibres by transmitting light in an interactive game. Please visit http://charleskao.hkstp.org for details of the exhibition.
由藝術行政主任辦公室、聯合書院、香港藝術中心與龔志成音樂工作室合辦的「開放音樂」已於2011年3月28日於湯草舉行。當晚共邀請了五組本地及內地獨立音樂人演出，推廣多元音樂文化。音樂會後亦舉行了座談會，探討音樂與社會及環境空間的關係及演出者面對的挑戰。
Street Music in CUHK was held on 28 March 2011 at the lawn in front of the Adam Shall Residence.The programme is co-organised by The Office of the Arts Administrator, United College,Hong Kong Arts Centre and Kung Music Workshop. Five groups of local and mainland indie musicians shared and promoted the wide variety of alternative music. Post-performance discussions was held and the artists further explored the potentials of performance in diverse outdoor spaces as a means of engaging more deeply with the environment and confronting both social issues and questions of public space, with the challenges of artists.
