書院語文改善計劃——普通話及英語學習營

為提高同學的語文水準，書院於2011年5月在突破青年村舉辦一個普通話學習營及兩個英語學習營。普通話學習營於2011年5月27至29日舉行，共二十二位同學參加。英語學習營則於2011年5月20至22日及5月27至29日舉行，合共四十六位同學參加。

UC Language Improvement Project –
Putonghua and English Immersion Camps
|

To enhance students’ language proficiency, the
College organised a Putonghua Immersion Camp and
two English Immersion Camps in May 2011 at the
Breakthrough Youth Village. Twenty-two students
joined the Putonghua Immersion Camp, which was
held from 27 to 29 May 2011. Also, forty-six
students joined the English Immersion Camps
which took place from 20 to 22 May and 27 to 29
May 2011 respectively.

邁進地球村系列——美國駐港領事館經濟處主管主持講座
|

|
美國駐香港總領事館經濟政治處主管黃安柱先生於2011年5月17日親臨書院，為本院參加了邁進地球村系列——美國首都華盛頓考察團的二十名同學以「美國自金融海嘯後的經濟發展」為題作出發前講座，為他們於五月底出訪美國華府的考察活動作準備。
書院與港美中心自2007年起合辦美國首都華盛頓考察團，每年挑選二十名同學到美國首都華盛頓就不同主題作考察。本年度的主題為Structural
Changes, Recession and Recovery in the American
Economy: The Roles of Government and the Private
Sector.

Mr Andrew Nissen, Consul of Economic Affairs,
Consulate General of the United States of
America in Hong Kong, delivered a pre-departure
talk to the student participants of the United
College GOAL Programme –Travel Study Programme
to Washington, DC area on 17 May 2011 on the
topic of How the country has changed since the
financial crisis.
The Travel Study Programme to Washington, DC
area was first launched by the College and the
Hong Kong America Center in 2007. Since then the
College selects twenty students each year to
participate in this two-week study programme in
Washington, DC on different themes. The main
theme of this year is Structural Changes,
Recession and Recovery in the American Economy:
The Roles of Government and the Private Sector.

邁進地球村系列——丹麥駐港總領事主持講座
|
| |
丹麥駐港總領事紀達文大使於2011年6月9日親臨書院，為本院參加了邁進地球村系列——丹麥哥本哈根考察團的二十名同學以「丹麥的福利制度」為題作出發前講座。
本計劃是書院與港美中心合作推出的一個全新學習計劃，透過兩星期的考察活動，同學可以對北歐國家的社會福利制度及當地文化有更多的認識。

GOAL Programme –
Consul General of Denmark Delivered Talk

The Consul General of Denmark in Hong Kong,
Ambassador Torben Gettermann, delivered a talk
on Welfare State in Denmark to the student
participants of the College GOAL Programme
to Copenhagen, Denmark on 9 June 2011 at the
College Staff Common Room.
This new programme under the College GOAL series
is jointly organised by the College and Hong
Kong America Center. Through the two-week travel
study programme to Copenhagen and Sweden in
Denmark, students can learn about the welfare
states in Northern Europe and the Scandinavian
culture.

2011-2012年度書院校外住宿助學金
|
|
|
校外住宿助學金旨在提供校外住宿資助予有經濟困難，而又未能成功申請在校內住宿的聯合書院同學，在港鐵東鐵沿綫租住較現行家庭住址更接近大學校園的地方，以鼓勵同學積極參與校園書院活動，並爭取學習時間，以提升學業成績。
本計劃只接受2011-2012年度聯合書院校內住宿申請候補名單上的同學提出申請，即2011-2012年度內未能成功申請在校內住宿的聯合同學。此計劃並不影響同學輪候或上訴申請校內宿舍機會。
2011-2012年度的助學金每個金額為一千三百元正，申請人全年上、下學期最多可獲資助兩個獎額。($1,300
x 2 = $2,600)
書院全年接受申請。本計劃由書院輔導長主持之工作小組審批。評審主要標準包括：(一) 申請人之經濟狀況及(二) 申請人之學業成績。有興趣申請同學可瀏覽書院網頁下載申請表：www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc

UC Off-campus Residence Grant
2011-2012

This Grant Scheme provides financial support to
needy students who have not been assigned a
residential place on the University campus, to
rent a place off-campus temporarily, along the
Mass Transit Railway System (East Rail
Line). The rented place should be closer to the
University compared with their family residence,
to facilitate the applicants to participate in
College life, for advancement in academic
performance and for better participation in
various activities on campus.
United College students on the waiting list of
hostel residence application of 2011-2012 are
welcome to apply. (i.e. those who have not been
assigned a residential place on the University
Campus.). This application will not affect the
chance of waiting or appealing for a hostel
place.
The amount of each grant for 2011-2012 will be
HK$1,300. For each applicant, a maximum of two
grants may be allocated for the 1st Term and 2nd
Term of the academic year. (i.e. HK$1,300 x 2 =
HK$2,600)
Application is open on a year-round basis. The
main considerations are (1) Financial Situation
of Applicants and (2) Academic Performance of
Applicants. Students interested in application

廉政公署之旅

蒙
岑維休先生德育計劃資助，聯合書院學生身心健康工作小組主辦「廉政公署之旅」活動已於2011年5月18日舉行。當日由副院長兼輔導長王香生教授率領近三十位聯合書院學生，訪問位於北角的廉政公署總部，透過講座及參觀展覽館，使同學了解廉政公署的歷史及架構，書院特別感謝廉政公署首席傳媒宣傳創作主任蘇張麗影校友(74/英文)到場與同學會面。

Subsidised by the Mr Shum Wai Yau Moral
Education Scheme, the Taskforce on Students'
Well-being organised an ICAC Tour on 18 May
2011. Professor Stephen H S Wong, Associate
College Head and Dean of Students, led nearly
thirty students to visit the Independent
Commission Against Corruption headquarters in
North Point. The tour included a talk about the
history and structure of ICAC and a visit of the
exhibition gallery. Special thanks go to the
College alumna, Mrs Vanessa So (74/ENG),
Principal Mass Communication Officer of ICAC,
who received our students during the tour.

張煊昌博士導修計劃總結分享會於2011年5月17日（星期二）假思源文娛中心舉行。超過五十位宿舍住校導師和同學出席當晚的分享會，分享過去一年參與導修計劃專題研習小組的經驗和感受。導修計劃工作小組召集人、副院長兼通識教育主任余濟美教授及導修計劃顧問、副院長兼通識教育副主任張雙慶教授頒授證書予出席率達七成以上的專題研習小組成員。

Dissemination of Dr Thomas Cheung Tutorial
Scheme was held at the Si Yuan Amenities Centre
on Tuesday, 17 May 2011. Over fifty resident
tutors and students attended the session and
shared their feelings and experiences for
joining the scheme in their focus learning
groups. Professor Jimmy C M Yu, the Convener of
the Working Group on Tutorial Scheme, Associate
College Head and Dean of General Education and
Professor Chang Song-hing, Advisor of the
Working Group on Tutorial Scheme, Associate
College Head and Associate Dean of General
Education, presented certificates of attendance
to resident tutors and students who achieved an
attendance rate of more than seventy percent of
the tutorial sessions held.

本年度岑才生學長計劃年終經驗分享會已於2011年5月21日假香港科學園舉行。當日由陳永良學長（85/政政）主持學長講座，講題為「如何踏上人生成功路」，其他節目包括經驗分享及於會後享用下午茶自助餐，是次共有八十多位學長、學員參加，大家歡度了一個輕鬆愉快的周末。

The Year-end Sharing Session of United College
Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme was held on
21 May 2011 at Hong Kong Science Park. During
the session, College alumnus, Mr Stanley W L
Chan (85/GPA) delivered a talk on “How to Get to
the Successful Path”. Experience sharing session
and tea buffet were also arranged on that day.
The sharing session was well received by more
than eighty mentors and mentees and they all
enjoyed the activities on the day.

A tea gathering for this year's overseas and
postgraduate scholarship recipients was held on
8 June 2011 at the Si Yuan Amenities Centre.
Professor Woo Kam-sang, Chairman of the
Scholarships and Student Finance Committee,
Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, Professor
Stephen H S Wong, Associate College Head and
Dean of Students, scholarship recipients and
their parents and the College administrative
staff were present.

為了讓聯合書院學生獲得更多實習工作的機會，書院與校友會於2011年度首辦「聯合書院實習計劃」，希望同學藉以在畢業前獲取實用的工作經驗，透過計劃認清未來事業的路向。計劃於本年度暑假試行，為聯合書院法律系學生提供多個實習空缺。計劃將會逐步擴展至其他行業，惠及不同學系的學生。

UC Internship

United College, in collaboration with United
College Alumni Association, launched the United
College Internship Programme in summer 2011 to
provide training opportunities for United
College undergraduate students. Internship
opportunities will enhance students’
understanding to their future career and help
them gain practical workplace experience prior
to graduation. As a pilot run this summer,
internship opportunities were provided to United
College law students. More internship
opportunities from other industries will be
arranged in the coming years.

聯合書院與北京清華大學合辦「薪火計劃」
|

|
聯合書院與北京清華大學將於本年暑假再度合辦「薪火計劃」，日期為2011年7月4至30日。十五名清華大學同學將於7月4日訪港兩星期，期間兩院校的同學將到不同機構訪問及參觀，以了解本港的義工服務制度及工作，學員並到香港聖公會麥理浩夫人中心參與義工服務。計劃的第二部分，聯合書院的同學將回訪北京，並與清華大學的同學分成三組到京郊義教，幫助當地中小學生。
「薪火計劃」由陳曾燾博士思源立人計劃撥款資助。

The “Pass-it-on” Programme with
Tsinghua University
|
| |
United College and Tsinghua University, PRC will
continue to jointly organise the social service
programme “Pass-it-on” this summer. The
programme will last from 4 to 30 July 2011 in
Hong Kong and Beijing. Fifteen Tsinghua
University students will have a two-week visit
to United College from 4 July. United College
students together with the delegation will visit
different organisations to get to know the
social service system in Hong Kong. Students
will also attach to HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre
in Kwai Chung to provide voluntary service to
the local community. United College will then
pay their return visit to Beijing. Students from
both universities will be divided into three
groups to visit the rural area of Beijing and
provide voluntary teaching service to primary
and secondary school students.
The “Pass-it-on” Programme is sponsored by “Dr
Thomas Chen Si Yuan Social Service Programme”.

Organised by the University's Health Promotion
and Protection Committee, the graduation
ceremony of the Campus Health Ambassadors
Programme was held on 23 May 2011. Fifteen
United College students received certificates
for the completion of the programme and the
Prominent Project Awards. College student, Mr
Stanley P C Wong (GPAD/3) was also awarded the
Prominent Health Ambassador.

A banner recycling bin has been placed in the
car park of Bethlehem Hall since late May. All
student organisations are welcome to dispose
their used banners into the recycling bin for
building a green campus.

The 2008 Class Society of the College has
organised a Graduation Dinner for the 2011
graduates on 24 May 2011 at Star Room, 42/F,
Langham Place Hotel Hong Kong, MongKok. The
dinner was well received by one hundred and ten
fresh graduates and guests.
