本年度聯合書院新生輔導營定於2011年8月24至27日在書院校園舉行，主題為「神鬼英魂、霸承聯合」。
籌委會希望透過四日三夜的新生輔導營令新生了解書院的特色和定位，透過一連串的活動來加深同學對香港本土歷史及社會事務的認識，以及反思大學生的角色和如何計劃未來的大學生活。查詢請致電6094

Orientation Camp
|
| |
The 2011 United College Orientation Camp will be
held on the College campus from 24 to 27 August
2011. The theme of the camp is “Spirit of
Universe, be Embraced and United”. Through the
four-day-three-night camp, the Organising
Committee hopes that freshmen can understand the
College spirit and positioning through a series
of mass games and theme activities. They can
also gain knowledge of local Hong Kong history
and social affairs which helps them to reflect
on the role of university students and plan for
their undergraduate studies. For Orientation

Application forms for the 2011-2012 regular-term
residence in the College’s student hostels are
now available for new students at the College
Dean of Students’ Office. The forms can also be
downloaded from the College Website
(http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc). Completed
application forms should be submitted to the
same office before 12:00 noon on 18 August 2011.
Late applications will not be considered.

學生宿舍消息

本年度獲配宿位的宿生請於2011年9月3日（星期六）下午1時至6時，攜同學生證及近照兩幀，到有關宿舍辦理入宿手續。書院將於當日中午12時至下午6時於大學港鐵站安排專車接載同學入宿。
未能如期入宿者，必須於最少兩個工作天前以書面向舍監申請延期入宿，否則將作放棄宿位論。詳情請參閱有關通告或親臨書院學生輔導處查詢。

Hostel News

| |
Hostel residents for the academic year 2011-2012
are advised to check-in at their respective
hostels between 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday,
3 September 2011. Residents should bring their
student identity cards and two recent photos for
registration. Special coach service will be
arranged by the College from 12:00 noon to 6:00
pm on that day.
Residents who are unable to check-in at the
scheduled time should apply in writing to the
respective wardens for late check-in at least
two working days in advance. Failure to do so
may mean cancellation of the hostel places
allocated. For further information, please refer
to the College notice boards or contact the Dean
of Students’ Office.

邁進地球村系列

暑期法語及文化考察團
二十五名書院同學由考察團學術顧問公共衞生及基層醫療學院魏曉林教授率領下，於2011年5月28日至6月10日前往法國里昂天主教大學修讀一個為期兩星期共三學分的基礎法語課程。修讀語文課程外，同學亦透過不同的文化考察活動，加深對當地文化的認識。
暑期文化及英語課程——牛津大學哈特福學院
十位聯合書院同學在副院長兼輔導長王香生教授帶領下，於2011年7月3日至16日前往英國牛津大學哈特福學院修讀一個兩星期的暑期課程，課程內容除了包括學習英語外，課程還會透過講座及訪問等活動以加深同學對英國歷史及文化的認識，親身體驗傳統英式的書院生活。

Active Learning (GOAL) Programme

French Culture and Language Programme at Lyon,
France
Twenty-five College students, led by academic
adviser of the programme, Professor Wei Xiaolin,
School of Public Health and Primary Care,
attended a credit bearing intensive French
course from 28 May to 10 June 2011 at the
Universite Catholique de Lyon, France. Apart
from attending language courses, the programme
also includes some sightseeing and excursion
activities to enable students to gain a better
understanding of the French culture.
Culture and English Language Programme at
Hertford College, University of Oxford, UK
Ten College students, led by Professor Stephen H
S Wong, Associate College Head and Dean of
Students, attended a two-week summer programme
at the Hertford College of Oxford University,
United Kingdom from 3 to 16 July 2011. The
programme included English language training as
well as courses and excursions about British
Culture and History.

第十八屆萌芽學者學術交流計劃

本院萌芽學者學術交流團一行九人將由書院學生交換計劃委員會主席陳錦泰教授帶領，於2011年9月11日至18日出訪台灣清華大學。聯合書院萌芽學者以「科技應用對年輕人生活的影響」為題進行專題研究，並在台灣清華大學公開發表有關研究結果。

Eight budding scholars of the College, led by
Professor K T Chan, Chairman of the College
Student Exchange
Programme Committee, will visit Tsing Hua
University, Taiwan, from 11 to 18 September,
2011. The United College students will present
their research findings on the topic “Impact of
IT Technologies on the Youth's Styles of Living”
at Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.

Improvement Project – Autumn 2011

The Autumn 2011 courses of the College's
Language Improvement Project (LIP) are open for
application from 5 to 14 September 2011. To
cater for the needs of different students, the
College will offer daytime Putonghua courses
with priority being given to non-resident
students. The programme prospectus and

以下入學獎學金現已開始接受申請：
(1) 聯合書院全人教育入學獎學金計劃
為鼓勵具有不同專長及技能的同學入讀香港中文大學聯
合書院，本院設立了「聯合書院全人教育入學獎學金計劃」，其中包括下列獎項：
-劉麥懿明女士體育運動入學獎學金
此項入學獎學金是為鼓勵具有運動潛質的新生入讀香港中文大學聯合書院而設。獎額三名，每名港幣一萬元。如得獎人於其後的修學年符合所需條件，此獎項將會繼續頒予該得獎人。
-陳曾燾博士思源立人入學獎學金
此項入學獎學金是為鼓勵積極參與社會服務並有優秀表現的新生入讀香港中文大學聯合書院而設。獎額三名，每名港幣一萬元。如得獎人於其後的修學年符合所需條件，此獎項將會繼續頒予該得獎人。
-創意及文化入學獎學金
此項入學獎學金是為鼓勵在藝術及文化方面具有創意及潛質的新生入讀香港中文大學聯合書院而設。獎額三名，每名港幣一萬元。
(2) 第一代大學生入學獎學金
此項入學獎學金是為鼓勵父母均非大學生的新生入讀香港中文大學聯合書院而設。獎額六十八名，每名港幣二千五百元。

Scholarships were established to give
recognition to year-one students who have
achieved high standards in the performance of
sports activities as well as to encourage them
to further develop these potentials at the
United College of The Chinese University of Hong
Kong. There are three awards, in the amount of
HK$10,000 each. The Scholarships are renewable
provided that the awardees meet the renewal
requirements.
-Dr Thomas Chen Si Yuan Social Service Admission
Scholarships
Dr Thomas Chen Si Yuan Social Service Admission
Scholarships were established to give
recognition to year-one students who have made
outstanding contributions in social services
whilst in high school and to encourage them to
join the United College of The Chinese
University of Hong Kong. There are three awards,
in the amount of HK$10,000 each. The
Scholarships are renewable provided that the
awardees meet the renewal requirements.
-Innovation and Culture Admission Scholarships
The Innovation and Culture Admission
Scholarships were established to recognise
year-one students of United College who have
shown talents and capacity for creativity in the
arts and culture as well as to encourage them to
further develop these potentials at the United
College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
There are three awards, in the amount of
HK$10,000 each.
(2) First-in-the-Family Tertiary Education
Admission Scholarships
To encourage students of United College who are
the first generation in the family to pursue
tertiary education at United College of The
Chinese University of Hong Kong, the College has
established "First-in-the-Family Tertiary
Education admission Scholarship". There are 68
awards, in an amount of HK$2,500 each.
The application period for the above awards is
from 19 August 2011 to 9 September 2011. For
further details, please refer to the
announcements on the College notice-boards, the
College website or enquire at the Dean of
Students’ Office.

Organised by the Taskforce
on Students' Well-being and sponsored by the
College's Mr Shum Wai Yau Moral Education
Scheme, the Student Life Charter was launched in
2008 and received positive feedback from College
students. The scheme aims at helping students to
set up their personal objectives of their
university life and learning. Students are
welcome to sign and the online version is

It is also a recognised activity of the United
College Mr Fung Sun Kwan Whole Person
Development Award Programme

2011-2012年度聯合書院岑才生學長計劃
|

|
由聯合書院及聯合書院校友會合辦，並獲書院校董會主席岑才生先生贊助之「2011至2012年度聯合書院岑才生學長計劃」現已開始接受報名。學長計劃旨在提供機會讓書院校友與在校同學互相認識，透過一對一的交流模式，建立友誼，分享生活及工作體驗，從而提高在校同學的心智發展，擴闊視野，增強自信，改善溝通技巧。本計劃亦設有海外學長，讓參與國際交換計劃的同學能透過當地校友學長的輔導，在文化及生活方面得到更大的幫助。
報名表格可往聯合書院曾肇添樓二樓學生輔導處索取或在書院網頁(http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/mentorship)下載。填妥之報名表須於2011年9月9日或以前交回書院學生輔導處。-

Choi Sang Mentorship Programme 2011-2012

Applications are now invited
for the UC Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme
2011-2012. This Programme, jointly organised by
United College and the United College Alumni
Association, is sponsored by Mr Shum Choi-sang,
Chairman of the College Board of Trustees. The
main purpose of the Programme is to foster a
mentoring relationship between alumni and
undergraduate students of the College. Through
this mentoring, it is anticipated that students
will be able to build up self-confidence,
develop good ethics and communication skills,
and enhance their knowledge beyond mere
book-learning. The Programme will also recruit
overseas mentors to provide support to students
planning to participate in exchange programmes.
Their contact and communications will be mainly
by electronic means.
Application forms can be obtained from the Dean
of Students’ Office, 2/F, Tsang Shiu Tim
Building, United College, or downloaded from the
College Website
http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/mentorship. Completed
forms should be submitted to the same office on
or before 9 September 2011.
Briefing session and interviews will be held in
mid-September 2011. The selection results will
be announced on the College Website on 30
September 2011. Applicants will also be notified
of the results by email.

聯合書院國際演講會

|
聯合書院國際演講會自2005年9月正式成立以來，致力訓練聯合同學公開演講的能力及技巧。同學透過定期參與會議，嘗試一連串有系統的練習，訓練英語演講技巧及即席演講的應變能力。同學亦可同時學習對其他參加者的演講作出有效的評價。現時合共有三十三位聯合同學註冊成為會員。
聯合書院國際演講會將於2011年9月22日(星期四)晚上6時45分於聯合書院鄭棟材樓UCC2講室舉行示範會議，聯合書院國際演講會邀得多位極富經驗的國際演講會資深會員到場指導。

Toastmasters Club
|
| |
Since September 2005, United College
Toastmasters Club (UCTMC) has strived to improve
English speaking skills and standards among
United College students. At Toastmasters
meetings, members have the opportunity to learn
by speaking in groups and working with others in
a supportive environment. Members receive
systematic trainings on impromptu speaking and
public speaking through practice and feedback
from their fellow club members. At present, 33
United College students have registered as
members of the Club.
The Demonstration Meeting for recruiting new
members will be held on Thursday, 22 September
2011 at 6:45 pm at UCC2, T C Cheng Building,
United College. Experienced Toastmasters will
attend the demo meeting and coach members on
public speaking skills.

本院學生勇奪法國品酒賽亞軍
|
|
|
本院巢景峰同學（法律/二）、劉敏珊同學（法律/二）及隊友於2011年6月17日遠赴法國，以全場最年輕的隊伍首次參加「葡萄酒20」品酒大賽，即僅以一分之微負於哈佛大學，勇奪亞軍。比賽於波爾多的拉菲酒莊舉行，內容包括測試參賽者對葡萄酒的基本知識，還有鑑酒環節，辨別各款美酒的出產年份及酒莊，並描述它們的特色。

UC Students Won
First Runners-up at Bordeaux Wine Tasting
Contest

College students, Mr Fergus
K F Chau (LAWS/2), Miss Holly M S Lau (LAWS/2)
and another team member won the first runners-up
in the final of the '20 Sur Vin' wine-tasting
competition held on 17 June 2011 in France. The
youngest candidates in the event and
participating for the first time in history, the
Hong Kong team came just one point behind the
champion from Harvard University. The final was
held at Château Lafite Rothschild of Bordeaux
region. The competition consisted of questions
examining the text-book knowledge of the
participants. The contestants also had to rank
wines in order of age and location, and describe
their characteristics.

儲物箱接受走讀生申請
|

書院於曾肇添樓地下一零九室設有儲物箱，供走讀生借用。書院學生可由2011年9月8日至9月30日於辦公時間內親往曾肇添樓二樓學生輔導處辦理借用手續。由於儲物箱數量有限，除特殊情況外，書院一概不接受宿生或已獲學系分配儲物箱之同學申請借用。
儲物箱之借用規則如下：
1)
借用者須繳付儲物箱鎖匙的按金港幣五十元正。請透過匯豐銀行或恒生銀行自動櫃員機將按金轉帳至香港中文大學戶口293-005005-001，並帶同自動櫃員機收據前往學生輔導處申請。
2) 借用者須保持儲物箱整潔，並避免於箱內存放貴重物品。
3)
同學可自行決定借用年期，借用期最長為畢業學年5月31日止。唯書院可能在有需要情況下，不再提供儲物箱借用服務，屆時將另行通知借用同學。
4)
借用期屆滿前，借用者須清理箱內物品，並親往曾肇添樓二樓書院學生輔導處歸還箱匙。書院將安排透過自動轉賬方式把按金退回借用者之存款戶口內。
5) 倘遺失儲物箱鎖匙，按金概不發還。 借用者如需續用儲物箱，必須重新辦理借用手續。
6) 倘逾期辦理退箱手續，按金概不發還，儲物箱內之物品將列作棄置物品處理。

Locker Application for Non-residential
Students
|
| |
Lockers in Room 109 of Tsang
Shiu Tim Building are now available for
non-residential students. Interested students
should apply in person during office hours at
the United College Dean of Students' Office on
2/F of Tsang Shiu Tim Building from 8 to 30
September 2011. Since only a limited number of
lockers are available, application from
residential students or students who have been
assigned lockers in their respective departments
will be declined unless under special
circumstance.
The loan regulations are as follows:
1) A deposit of HK$50 per locker is required.
Applicants should pay the deposit via HSBC or
Hang Seng Bank ATM to The Chinese University of
Hong Kong (293-005005-001). Please bring the ATM
Customer Advice when making the application.
2) The lockers must be kept clean at all times
and no valuables should be kept inside.
3) Students could decide the loan period of
locker. The longest period is 31 May of
graduation year. However, the College reserves
the right to terminate the locker service under
special circumstance. Students will be informed
under such case.
4) Before returning the locker to the College,
the student is responsible for cleaning the
locker and returning the key in person to the
College Dean of Students' Office. Deposit will
be refunded by autopay.
5) Deposit will be forfeited if the locker key
is lost. If the student wants to continue to use
the locker, he/she has to reapply and pay the
deposit again.
6) Deposit will be forfeited for failure to
return the locker keys when the loan period is
expired. Items inside the locker will be
disposed.
