日，出席在美國夏威夷舉行之移民良策：為何實用移民對移民及日本有利會議，並發表論文一篇。

體育部鄧子銘先生於2011年5月26至31日，出席在新加坡舉行之2011年第十一屆新加坡獅城國際木球公開賽。
3.
歷史系蕭錦華博士於2011年7月3至6日，出席在中國武漢舉行之唐長孺先生百年誕辰紀念國際學術研討會暨中國唐史學會第十一屆年會會議，並發表論文一篇。
4.

In the first round allocation of the
International Conference Grant for 2011-2012,
the College granted HK$23,270 to subsidise
eleven staff members to attend international
conferences /
international sports competitions as follows:
1.
Professor Stephen Robert Nagy of Department of
Japanese Studies was invited to attend and
present a
paper at the 2011 Joint Conference of the
Association for Asian Studies (AAS) &
International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS)
held in Hawaii, USA from 31 Mach to 3 April
2011.
2. Mr Tang Tsz-ming of Physical Education Unit
was invited to participate in the 11th Singapore
Lion Cup International Woodball Open Championship 2011 held in Singapore from 26 to
31 May 2011.
3. Dr Siu Kam-wah of Department of History was
invited to attend and present a paper at the
International Academic Conference on the T'ang
China ― In Memorial of Professor Tang Zhang Ru
held in Wuhan, China from 3 to 6 July 2011.
4. Professor Tony K M Shing of Department of
Chemistry was invited to attend and present a
paper at the 17th European Symposium on Organic
Chemistry held in Crete, Greece from 10 to 15
July 2011.
5. Professor Kwan Hoi-shan of School of Life
Sciences was invited to attend and present a
paper at the Society for
Industrial Microbiology 2011 Annual meeting and

2012-2013年度到訪傑出學人計劃接受報名
|
由書院基金會贊助的「到訪傑出學人」計劃每年邀請國際知名學者到訪書院，進行為期約兩周的學術交流活動。贊助項目包括到訪傑出學人的商務客位來回機票、食宿費及酬金港幣兩萬元。至於訪問活動則由「到訪傑出學人」委員會及提名人共同商訂，一般包括兩個公開講座及與書院師生的學術交流活動等。

Call
for Nominations for the 2012-2013 Distinguished
Visiting Scholar
|
Nominations are now invited from academic staff
of United College for the 2012-2013
Distinguished Visiting Scholar (DVS). Nominees
should be internationally renowned scholars in
any field of study. DVS Scheme is sponsored by
the College's Endowment Fund and offers a
$20,000 honorarium for the invited scholar plus
round-trip business class airfares and
accommodation for the scholar. Detailed
programme for the visit will be designed by the
DVS Committee in consultation with the
nominator. Invited scholar is expected to stay
in Hong Kong for about two weeks, during which
delivering two public lectures and taking part
in exchange activities with staff and students
of the College.
Each nomination, together with the nominee's
full curricula vitae, should be endorsed by the
chairperson of the respective department and addressed to Mr George W Y Lam, Secretary of the
DVS Committee on or before 31 October 2011. For

本院資深書院導師陳方正博士出版新書《迎接美妙新世紀：期待與疑惑》，此書收集作者自2000年至2009年十年間寫的文章共四十篇，包括科學史和文化史的論文；對高等教育以至世界大事的觀察、反思和評論；還有其他講話和贈序。陳博士並為這書特別為每一章補寫後記。

Book Published by College Member, Embracing the
Brave New World: Doubts and Expectations
|
Dr Chen Fong-ching, Senior College Tutor of
United College, published a new book named
Embracing the Brave New World: Doubts and Expectations. Dr Chen’s book contains forty
essays selected from his treatises on scientific
and cultural history, his observations on world
events and happenings in the world of higher
education, his personal reflections, as well as
speeches and prefaces on diverse subjects. To
each of these is added a postscript specially
written by the author for this volume.
