順風計劃——宿生入宿義載服務 |

本年度聯合書院學生宿舍的住宿期由2011年9月3日(星期六)
開始，為協助未能如期入宿的宿生，書院特別安排於2011年9月4日至11日，上午9時至11時及下午4時至6時，邀請參與書院順風計劃的教職員為宿生提供義載服務，接載有需要的宿生由大學港鐵站前往各宿舍。

The residential term for 2011-2012 at UC student
hostels started on Saturday, 3 September 2011.
To help students who were not able to check in
on that day, the College had invited staff
members participating in the Hitch-offer
Campaign to provide free transportation to ferry
students from the University MTR Station to the
respective hostels, during 9:00 am-11:00 am and
4:00 pm-6:00 pm, from 4 to 11
September 2011.

聯合書院蒙
書院校董譚偉豪博士支持，舉辦「聯合書院權智創新與創業獎」比賽，讓同學透過小組合作方式，嘗試把自己的創見及意念，發展成為一項有商業或實業發展價值的計劃。書院相信同學可以在參加比賽的同時，學習到創業的不同技巧和經驗，對將來在實際工作環境中的發揮，會有很大的幫助。書院將安排相關工作坊及培訓課程為同學作準備。報名表格及計劃詳情可於書院網頁下載，截止報名日期為2011年9月30日。

Entrepreneurial Project Award 2011

The United College Group Sense Innovation and
Entrepreneurial Project Award Scheme is
sponsored by Dr Samson Tam, College Trustee. The
objective is to promote the development of
innovation potential and entrepreneurial skills
among students of United College. It aims to encourage students to invent and develop
innovative ideas or products, and design a
business plan to explore opportunities for
commercialization of the related projects.
Related workshops and training sessions will be
arranged by the College for interested students.

2011-2012年度聯合書院張煊昌博士導修計劃開始接受報名

為協助同學們建立健康的社交生活和鼓勵學術交流，書院於2008年3月推出「聯合書院張煊昌博士導修計劃」，建立網上平台「聯合講場」，讓同學們透過與資深書院導師及住校導師的交流，互相學習。本年度的導修計劃將會設五個專題研習小組，包括(1)
香港地理雜誌、(2) 旅遊人生、(3) 戲如人生、(4) 樂在其中及 (5)
香港‧真相，供有興趣的同學報名參加。每組同學均由資深書院導師及住校導師帶領，以導修形式進行。參加者可以就指定的議題提出相關討論及舉辦活動，分享經驗和互相學習。研習期由2011年10月開始至2012年5月完結。所有聯合書院本科生均可報名參加。有興趣同學請參考書院網頁http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/ucforum/，並於2011年9月19日前遞交網上申請表。

Thomas Cheung Tutorial Scheme 2011-2012

The United College Dr Thomas Cheung Tutorial
Scheme was established in March 2008 to
encourage exchanges amongst students of United
College, the Senior College Tutors and Resident
Tutors by interacting in an on-line forum. In
2011-2012, five focus learning groups will be
formed under this scheme, including (1) Hong
Kong Geographic, (2) Journey of Life, (3) Life
as a Film, (4) Music Immersion, and (5) The
Truth‧Hong Kong for interested students to
apply. Each group will be led by a number of
Senior College Tutors and Resident Tutors. The
scheme will run on a yearly basis, starting from
October 2011 and ending in May 2012. The
participants can initiate discussion and
activities on a specific topic, share their
experience and help each other in a tutorial
setting. All undergraduate students of United
College are invited to apply. Interested

聯合書院新生輔導營

本年度聯合書院新生輔導營已順利於2011年8月24至27日在書院校園舉行，主題為「神鬼英魂、霸承聯合」。輔導營籌委會籌望透過四日三夜的新生輔導營令新生了解書院的特色和定位，透過一連串的活動來加深同學對香港本土歷史及社會事務的認識，以及反思大學生的角色和如何計劃未來的大學生活。透過四日三夜的新生輔導營，輔導員(又稱組長)帶領新生體驗書院生活，協助同學發掘潛能及認識自我，建立對書院的歸屬感。今年出席輔導營的新生有四百六十位，包括參與首天及第三天活動的五十一位內地新生及出席第三天的活動的十三位國際生。書院特別感謝校友會會長殷巧兒女士、副會長何萬森先生及校友會理事會副主席謝家祥先生、院長馮國培教授、副院長兼輔導長王香生教授、副院長兼通識教育主任余濟美教授、副院長兼副通識教育主任張雙慶教授、新生輔導活動諮詢工作小組召集人兼湯若望宿舍舍監麥陳淑賢教授、恒生樓舍監黃安東先生、胡忠多媒體圖書館分館主任吳一豐女士、院務主任李雷寶玲女士及助理院務主任陳文軒先生等撥冗出席於8月24日舉行的輔導營開幕禮，並向所有籌辦及協辦本屆新生輔導營籌委會的學長致意。

College Orientation Camp
|

The 2011 College Orientation Camp organised by
the Student Union was held from 24 to 27 of
August 2011. The theme of the camp was “Spirit
of Universe, be Embraced and United”. Through
the four-day-three-night camp, the Organising
Committee expects that freshmen could
understand the College spirit and positioning
through a series of mass games and theme
activities. They could also gain knowledge of
local Hong Kong history and social affairs which
helps them to reflect on the role of university
students and plan for their undergraduate
studies. The Orientation Camp was well attended
by four hundred and sixty
freshmen, including fifty-one mainland students
who joined the first and third day activities,
while thirteen international students
participated on the third day. The College would
like to deliver its special thanks to Ms Lina H
Y Yan, Mr Ho Man-sum and Mr Tse Ka-cheung, who
are President, Vice-President of the United
College Alumni Association and Vice-Chairperson
of the Council of the United College Alumni

is designed to encourage students in taking
active and systematic steps to pursue whole
person development, including ethical,

activities. Participants will be awarded book
coupons and certificates if they can score 30
points or above before graduation or 20 points

聯合書院合唱團是一個新成立的音樂團隊，旨在提升聯合書院同學的藝術修養、堅毅和團隊精神，合唱團有機會於書院不同場合表演，於校園內外推廣不同類型的合唱音樂(包括古典及現代無伴奏合唱音樂)。
凡聯合書院學生(懂廣東話或普通話)、歌唱愛好者、願意每星期花3小時排練及具基本視唱能力，便可申請成為團員。
排練時間：逢星期三晚上7時至10時

United College Choir is a newly formed music
ensemble group under Dean of Students’ Office.
It aims at nurturing students with perseverance
and team work by means of a collective artistic
activity. Furthermore, the Choir would promote
various styles of choral music (from classical
to modern acappella pieces) in the campus so as
to cultivate an artistic environment. The choir
will get performing opportunities in various
college occasions.
If you are UC students (Cantonese or Putonghua
speakers) who love singing, willing to devote 3
hours every week to rehearse and acquire basic
score-reading ability, don’t hesitate to join
now.

聯合書院最新增設之「迪志精英運動員獎學金」現已開始接受申請。此獎項每年提供一至兩個名額，每名得獎人將獲港幣六萬元獎學金。申請人必須為本院一年級新生及現役或退役精英運動員，並曾代表香港參加如奧運、亞運或世界錦標性的大型體育運動賽事。
如得獎人於其後的修學年取得每年2.4或以上之平均積點，及於在學期間協助聯合書院推動體育運動，此獎項將會繼續頒予該得獎人。

Elite Athlete Scholarships (2011-2012)

United College wishes to announce the newly
established Digital Heritage Elite Athlete
Scholarships. These Scholarships, 1-2 in number
in each year and having a monetary value of
HK$60,000 each, are open to application for all
year one UC students who are present or retired
athletes of the Hong Kong Team with a proven
record of sporting excellence at international
competitions, such as the Olympic Games, the
Asian Games and other World tournaments.
The Scholarships are renewable provided that the
awardees attain a yearly GPA of 2.4 or better
and assist the College in promoting sports and
athletic activities during their study years.
The application deadline is 30 September 2011.

香港中文大學聯合書院與北京清華大學「薪火計劃」
|
|
|
聯合書院與北京清華大學於本年暑假再次合辦「薪火計劃」。兩校自去年首度合辦，效果良好，本年度的計劃已於2011年7月4至30日於香港及北京順利舉行。
一共十五名北京清華大學的同學於7月4日訪港兩星期，期間兩院校的同學被安排到不同機構訪問及參觀，以了解本港的義工服務制度及工作，學員還到香港聖公會麥理浩夫人中心參與義工服務。計劃的第二部份，聯合書院的同學於7月18至31日回訪北京，並與清華大學的同學分成三小組到京郊義教，服務當地中小學生。
香港中文大學聯合書院與北京清華大學「薪火計劃」由陳曾燾博士思源立人計劃基金撥款資助。

The “Pass-it-on”
with Tsinghua University
|
| |
United College and Tsinghua University jointly
organised a social service programme named
“Pass-it-on” this summer. This joint programme
was first launched in 2010 and this year the
programme was held from 4-30 July 2011 in Hong
Kong and Beijing.
Fifteen students from Tsinghua University
visited United College from 4 July for two
weeks. Together with the United College
students, the joint student delegation visited
different organisations in Hong Kong to get to
know the social service system here. In the
second week of the programme, students attached
to HKSKH Lady MacLehose Centre in Kwai Chung to
provide voluntary service to the local
community.
The second part of the Programme was in Beijing.
Students from both universities divided into
three groups to visit the rural area of Beijing
and to provide voluntary teaching to the primary
and secondary students.
The “Pass-it-on” with Tsinghua University, is
sponsored by the College “Dr Thomas Chen Si Yuan
Social Service
Programme”.

本院萌芽學者學術交流團一行九人將由書院學生交換計劃委員會主席陳錦泰教授帶領，於2011年9月11日至18日出訪台灣國立清華大學。聯合書院萌芽學者以「科技應用對年輕人生活的影響」為題進行專題研究，並在台灣國立清華大學公開發表有關研究結果。

on the topic “Impact of IT Technologies on the
Youth's Styles of Living” at National Tsing Hua
University, Taiwan.

香港中文大學與復旦大學——香港大學生《“十二五規劃”長江三角洲發展考察活動》
本院七位同學參加香港中文大學及上海復旦大學合辦的《十二五規劃”長江三角洲發展考察活動》，於2011年5月23日至29日前往上海考察七天。成功完成計劃的同學，可獲書院頒發獎學金。
美國首都華盛頓考察團
本院二十名同學於2011年5月29日至6月12日期間出訪美國華盛頓，透過參觀及訪問等活動，以了解金融海嘯後美國的經濟情況，並加深對美國的政治制度、社會面貌及環境保護等多方面的認識。本計劃由聯合書院與港美中心合辦。
澳洲悉尼大學暑期課程
本院二十六名同學由課程學術顧問日本研究學系Professor Stephen Robert
Nagy
陪同下，於2011年6月26至7月10日前往澳洲悉尼大學修讀有關環境保護及持續發展課程。
荷蘭烏特勒支大學暑期課程
本院四十名同學由課程學術顧問社會學系王淑英教授率領下，於2011年7月3至15日前往荷蘭烏特勒支大學修讀有關歐洲文化、政治制度及經濟為主題的課程。
暑期外地文化及語文研習課程——蘇格蘭愛丁堡大學
本院二十四名同學由書院資深導師孔憲煇博士率領下，分別於2011年7月4日及7月25日參加由英國愛丁堡大學舉辦之暑期文化及語文研習課程。同學由當地家庭接待，並參加由愛丁堡大學安排的英語課程和參觀當地的歷史及文化景點。透過計劃同學除可以改善英語水準外，亦能加深對英國文化的了解。
暑期外地文化及語文研習課程——西安陝西師範大學
本院十一名同學由書院副院長及通識教育副主任張雙慶教授及雅禮中國語文研習所導師陳智樑先生率領下，於2011年7月15日前往中國西安陝西師範大學，參加為期兩星期之文化及語文研習課程。同學除參加由陝西師範大學安排的普通話課程外，更與陝西師範大學研究生進行交流，在他們指導下學習普通話，以及了解西安獨特文化。
丹麥哥本哈根大學考察團
本院二十名同學在交流團學術顧問港美中心主任夏龍教授帶領下，於2011年7月31至8月14日前往丹麥哥本哈根作兩星期的考察，透過各種講座、研討會及考察活動，以了解北歐國家的社會福利制度。本計劃由聯合書院與港美中心合辦。

from 23 to 29 May 2011. Upon satisfactory
completion of the programme,
students will receive scholarship from the
College.
Travel Study Programme to Washington, DC area
Twenty students of the College visited
Washington, DC from 29 May to 12 June 2011.
Through seminars and visits, student
studied the main theme of “Structural Changes,
Recession and Recovery in the American Economy:
The Roles of Government and the Private Sector”.
The programme is jointly organised by United
College and Hong Kong America Center.
Summer Programme at the University of Sydney,
Australia
Twenty six College students, accompanied by
Programme
Academic Adviser, Professor Stephen Robert Nagy,
Department of Japanese Studies, attended a
summer course at the
University of Sydney in Australia from 26 June
to 10 July 2011. The main theme of the course
was "Environmental
Sustainability: Global and regional
Perspectives".
Summer Programme at Utrecht University, The
Netherlands
Forty College students, led by programme
Academic Adviser, Professor Wong Suk-ying,
Department of Sociology attended a summer course
at Utrecht University in the Netherlands from
3 to15 July 2011. The main themes of the courses
were "European Cultures and Identities" and
"European Politics and Economy".
Non-local Culture and English Language Programme
― The University of Edinburgh, Scotland
Two groups of twenty four College students,
accompanied by Dr Joseph H W Hung, Senior
College Tutor, departed on 4 July and 25 July
2011 respectively to attend the Summer
Culture and English Language Programme at the
University of Edinburgh, Scotland. They attended
English classes at the
University of Edinburgh and stayed with local
host families. The Programme is designed to
provide students with opportunity to improve
their English and appreciate Scottish culture.
Non-local Culture and Language Prgramme ―
Shaanxi
Normal University, Xi’an
Eleven College students accompanied by Professor
Chang Song-hing, Associate College Head and
Associate Dean of General Education, and the
Programme Adviser, Mr Chan
Chi-leung, Instructor of Yale-China Chinese
Language Centre,
attended the Summer Chinese Culture and Language
Programme at the Shaanxi Normal University from
15 to 29 July 2011. The students had an
opportunity to learn Putonghua
under close tutorship of Shaanxi Normal
University
postgraduate students and appreciate Chinese
culture.
Travel Study Programme to Copenhagen, Denmark
Twenty College students led by Programme
Academic Adviser, Professor Glenn Shive,
Executive Director of the Hong Kong America
Center, attended a Travel Study Programme to
Copenhagen, Denmark from 31 July to 14 August
2011. Through seminars and visits, students
learnt about the Danish social welfare system,
with comparative study of other
Scandinavian countries. This programme was
jointly organised by United College and the Hong
Kong America Center.

Unit, 1/F University Health Centre, College Dean
of Students’ Office or download at
http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uhs. The completed form
can be submitted to heidihui@cuhk.edu.hk.
Selected candidates will be individually
notified. The deadline for the application is 3
October 2011.

Welcoming Dinner for Non-local Students |
| |
The College organised a dinner on Wednesday, 14
September 2011 at 6:30 pm in the student canteen
to welcome the newly admitted non-local
undergraduates and exchange students of the
College. Over one hundred and fifty students
attended the dinner.

聯合書院國際演講會 |
| |
聯合書院國際演講會自2005年9月正式成立以來，致力訓練聯合同學公開演講的能力及技巧。同學透過定期參與會議，嘗試一連串有系統的練習，訓練英語演講技巧及即席演講的應變能力。同學亦可同時學習對其他參加者的演講作出有效的評價。現時合共三十三位聯合同學註冊成為會員。
聯合書院國際演講會將於2011年9月22日(星期四)晚上6時45分於聯合書院鄭棟材樓UCC2講室舉行示範會議，聯合書院國際演講會邀得多位極富經驗的國際演講會資深會員到場指導。

United College Toastmasters Club |

Since September 2005, United College
Toastmasters Club (UCTMC) has strived to improve
English speaking skills and standards among
United College students. At Toastmasters
meetings, members have the opportunity to learn
by speaking in groups and working with others in
a supportive environment. Members receive
systematic trainings on impromptu speaking and
public speaking through practice and feedback
from their fellow club members. At present,
thirty three United College students have
registered as members of the Club.
The Demonstration Meeting for recruiting new
members will be held on Thursday, 22 September
2011 at 6:45 pm at UCC2,
T C Cheng Building, United College. Experienced
Toastmasters will attend the demo meeting and
coach members on public speaking skills.

本院同學榮獲首屆美亞香港獎學金 |

本院馬悅君同學(心理/二年級)榮獲首屆美亞香港獎學金。該獎學金成立於2010至2011學年，旨在嘉許學業卓越的工商管理學院本科生，以及優秀的本地少數族裔或傷健同學。
馬悅君於2010年香港高級程度會考考獲3A佳績，獲心理學系錄取。她患有肌肉萎縮症，但積極參與社會服務，並期望日後能推動有關香港殘疾人士及復康的研究工作。

College Student Received the First Chartis
Hong Kong Scholarship |

A college student, Ms Gloria Y K Ma (PSYC/2) was
awarded the first Chartis Hong Kong
Scholarships. This scholarship was
established in 2010-2011 to recognise
undergraduates of the Faculty of Business
Administration with excellent academic
performance, as well as outstanding ethnic
minority or physically challenged students in
Hong Kong.
Gloria got 3 As in the HKALE in 2010 and was
admitted to the Department of Psychology at
CUHK. Living with congenital muscular dystrophy,
she has actively participated in community
services, and aspires to become a researcher who
could boost disability and rehabilitation
research in Hong Kong.

儲物箱接受走讀生申請 |
| |
書院於曾肇添樓地下一零九室設有儲物箱，供走讀生借用。書院學生可由2011年9月8日至9月30日於辦公時間內親往曾肇添樓二樓學生輔導處辦理借用手續。由於儲物箱數量有限，除特殊情況外，書院一概不接受宿生或已獲學系分配儲物箱之同學申請借用。
儲物箱之借用規則如下：
1)
借用者須繳付儲物箱鎖匙的按金港幣五十元正。請透過匯豐銀行或恒生銀行自動櫃員機將按金轉帳至香港中文大學戶口293-005005-001，並帶同自動櫃員機收據前往學生輔導處申請。
2) 借用者須保持儲物箱整潔，並避免於箱內存放貴重物品。
3)
同學可自行決定借用年期，借用期最長為畢業學年5月31日止。唯書院可能在有需要情況下，不再提供儲物箱借用服務，屆時將另行通知借用同學。
4)
借用期屆滿前，借用者須清理箱內物品，並親往曾肇添樓二樓書院學生輔導處歸還箱匙。書院將安排透過自動轉賬方式把按金退回借用者之存款戶口內。
5) 倘遺失儲物箱鎖匙，按金概不發還。 借用者如需續用儲物箱，必須重新辦理借用手續。
6) 倘逾期辦理退箱手續，按金概不發還，儲物箱內之物品將列作棄置物品處理。

Locker Application for Non-residential
Students |

Lockers in Room 109 of Tsang Shiu Tim Building
are now available for non-residential students.
Interested students should apply in person
during office hours at the United College Dean
of Students' Office on 2/F of Tsang Shiu Tim
Building from 8 to 30 September 2011. Since only
a limited number of lockers are available,
application from residential students or
students who have been assigned lockers in their
respective departments will be declined unless
under special circumstance.
The loan regulations are as follows:
1) A deposit of HK$50 per locker is required.
Applicants should pay the deposit via HSBC or
Hang Seng Bank ATM to The Chinese University of
Hong Kong (293-005005-001). Please bring the ATM
Customer Advice when making the
application.
2) The lockers must be kept clean at all times
and no valuables should be kept inside.
3) Students can decide the loan period of locker
up to 31 May of graduation year. However, the
College reserves the right to terminate the
locker service under special circumstance and
concerned students will be informed accordingly.
4) Before returning the locker to the College,
the student is
responsible for cleaning the locker and
returning the key in person to the College Dean
of Students' Office. Deposit will be refunded by
autopay.
5) Deposit will be forfeited if the locker key
is lost. If the student wants to continue to use
the locker, he/she has to reapply and pay the
deposit again.
6) Deposit will be forfeited for failure to
return the locker keys upon expiry of the loan
period . Items inside the locker will be
disposed.
