由書院學生會及六舍堂合辦的「院長夜話暨中秋晚會」於2011年9月14日(星期三)晚上於湯若望宿舍對開石地舉行。活動由學生會會長林朝暉同學主持，出席嘉賓包括院長馮國培教授、副院長兼輔導長王香生教授及副院長兼通識教育主任余濟美教授。在明亮的月色下，嘉賓與同學分享他們過中秋的逸事；校務交流內容包括學生團體活動資助、校園無線網絡覆蓋、宿舍轉宿安排及校巴服務等，馮院長亦向同學報告書院發展近況。晚會設月餅及特式飲品，供出席同學享用，氣氛融洽。 |

Head’s Night Talk cum Mid-Autumn Lantern

Organised by the College Student Union and the six hall associations, the "Head’s Night Talk cum Mid-Autumn Lantern Gathering" was held on Wednesday, 14 September 2011 at the open area outside Adam Schall Residence. The event was hosted by Mr Terence C F Lin, Student Union President. The guests attending the talk included Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head; Professor Stephen H S Wong, Associate College Head and Dean of Students; and Professor Jimmy C M Yu, Associate College Head and Dean of General Education. Under the bright moonlight, all guests shared their interesting memories in Mid-Autumn Festival; campus matters discussed in the gathering included subsidy for student organisations, campus WiFi coverage, switching of hostel place arrangements and school bus service. Professor Fung Kwok-pui also reported on recent College developments. Mooncakes and speciality drinks were served throughout the gathering in a warm harmonious atmosphere. |

|
2011至2012年度水運會於2011年10月3日（星期一）晚上舉行。書院六所舍堂共有一百八十多位同學參加比賽。院長馮國培教授、副院長兼輔導長王香生教授、副院長兼通識教育副主任張雙慶教授及多位嘉賓出席開幕禮，並頒獎予參賽健兒，現場各隊啦啦隊落力打氣，氣氛熱烈。恒生樓勇奪全場總冠軍，啦啦隊冠軍則為秉芬堂。

UC 38th Swimming Gala |

The 2011-2012 Swimming Gala was held on Monday, 3 October 2011. Over 180 students representing six hostels/non-residential halls joined the competitions. Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head, Professor Stephen H S Wong, Associate College Head & Dean of Students, Professor Chang Song-hing, Associate College Head & Associate Dean of General Education, and a number of guests attended the Opening Ceremony and presented prizes to winners. 本院萌芽學者學術交流團一行九人在書院學生交換計劃委員會主席陳錦泰教授率領下，於2011年9月11日至18日出訪台灣國立清華大學。聯合書院萌芽學者以「科技應用對年輕人生活的影響」為題進行專題研究，並在台灣國立清華大學公開發表有關研究結果。 |

Eight budding scholars of the College, led by Professor Chan Kam-tai, Chairman of the College Student Exchange Programme Committee, visited National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan from 11 to 18 September 2011. United College students presented their research findings on the topic “Impact of IT Technologies on the Youth's Styles of Living” at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan. |

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hang Seng Hall, Hang Seng Hall Residents Association will organize a reunion dinner on Friday, 11 November 2011 at 7:00 pm in the open space outside Adam Schall Residence. A series of activities will be arranged including big bowl dinner, band show, talent show, fashion show, lucky draws, etc. All residents and alumni of Hang Seng Hall are welcome to join. The United College Dinner as one of the non-formal educational activities, was first launched in 2006, aims at facilitating interactions between teachers and students beyond class. The first UC dinner this year will be held at the Prince of Wales Hospital for the College staff and students of the Faculty of Medicine. Details of the dinner are appended as below:
Free shuttle bus between University campus and the Prince of Wales Hospital will be provided by the College. Interested students please register at the College Dean of Students’ Office on or before 9 November 2011. 本年度聯合書院岑才生學長計劃的學員遴選工作已於9月份完成，並於2011年10月3日在書院網頁公佈，入選同學將獲個別通知有關學長配對的結果。學長計劃統籌委員會將於2011年10月26日假富豪九龍酒店舉行迎新晚會，讓新一屆的學長和學員會面。 |

The selection of mentees for this year’s UC Shum Choi Sang Mentorship Programme had been completed in September 2011. The selection results were already released on the College website on 3 October 2011. Successful applicants will be notified of the matching of mentors with mentees on individual basis. The Mentorship Programme Coordinating Committee will organise an inauguration dinner on 26 October 2011 at the Regal Kowloon Hotel for all participants to get-together. |

2011至2012年度書院張煊昌博士導修計劃——個人專業導修開始接受報名 |

|
為協助同學們建立健康的社交生活和鼓勵學術交流，書院於2008年3月推出「聯合書院張煊昌博士導修 計劃」，建立網上平台「聯合講場」，讓同學們透過與資深書院導師及住校導師的交流，互相學習。本年度首次推出個人專業導修，資深書院導師及教職員，根據個人的專長，為同學於不同領域推行個人專業導修，令同學可以在學術方面、生活經驗以至升學就業準備可以獲得更多的知識和經驗的交流，豐富書院生活。有興趣的聯合書院本科生請參閱書院網頁http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/ucforum/，並於2011年10月20日至11月2日遞交網上申請表。計劃由2011年11月中開始至2012年5月完結。 查詢請致電3943 1844或3943 7574與本院助理書院發展主任高榮銘先生或潘家明女士聯絡。 |

The United College Dr Thomas Cheung Tutorial Scheme, established in March 2008, aims at helping students through guidance and sharing by the Senior College Tutors and Resident Tutors. Personalised Tutorial is launched this year. Senior College Tutors and teaching staff will provide personalised tutorial in academic pursuit, life experience, preparation for job seeking and further studies, and to enhance college life of students. The Scheme, to be offered between mid November 2011 and May 2012, is open for application. Please refer to College website http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/uc/ucforum/ for information. The recruitment exercise of the College Cantonese Debate Team members in 2011-2012 has been completed. The following eleven students were selected as members of the Debate Team :
Professor Jeremiah K H Wong, Senior College Tutor of United College, has been invited again as the Warden of the Debate Team. Professor Wong will train the team members, and get them prepared for upcoming matches. |

This year's CU Inter-Collegiate Drama Competition will be held on 16 and 17 November 2011 at 7:30 pm at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The competition, is sponsored by Chung Chi, New Asia, United and Shaw College, co-organised by Sir Run Run Shaw Hall and Drama Societies of four Colleges. The entry of United College Drama Club, "Moonbeam", will be staged on 17 November.
