| UC Buddy Programme for New Staff |

To facilitate the integration of new College members into the University and College, United College initiates “UC Buddy Programme” this year to enhance the opportunities of new members to interact with senior College members through social gatherings and exchange. | 延長到訪傑出學人計劃提名期 |
|
為配合大學於2013年慶祝創校五十周年，書院將同時接受2012至2013及2013至2014年度的到訪傑出學人提名，並將提名期延長至2011年12月30日。已提交的提名不受影響，有關安排將有助書院籌劃相關的慶祝活動。 書院歡迎教員提名具國際聲譽的學者於上述兩個學年訪問書院。「到訪傑出學人」計劃由書院基金會贊助，每年邀請知名學者到訪書院，進行為期約兩周的學術交流活動。到訪傑出學人的商務客位機票、宿費及酬金港幣二萬元均由本計劃資助。至於訪問活動之細節由「到訪傑出學人」委員會及提名人共同商議及安排，一般包括兩至三次公開講座及師生學術交流活動等。 提名人須填妥提名表格，連同有關履歷交系主任加簽，於2011年12月30日或以前送達委員會秘書。查詢計劃詳情或索取提名表格可致電3943 7598與委員會秘書林偉源先生聯絡。 |
| Distinguished Visiting Scholar Scheme Extends Nomination Period |
|
To support the University’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2013, the College would extend the nomination period of the Distinguished Visiting Scholar (DVS) to 30 December 2011 so as to include the nominations for academic years of 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. Such arrangements will not affect those nominations already submitted for 2012-2013, and will facilitate the College to plan for celebration activities ahead. Nominations of internationally renowned scholars in any field of study to visit the College in the specified years are welcomed. The Scheme is sponsored by the United College Endowment Fund and offers a $20,000 honorarium for the invited scholar plus round-trip business class airfares and accommodation. The detailed programme for the visit will be designed by the DVS Committee in consultation with the nominator. The invited scholar is expected to deliver two to three public lectures and take part in other academic and social activities with the staff and students of the College. Nominations, together with the nominees’ full curriculum vitae and endorsement by the respective department chairperson, should be forwarded to the DVS Committee Secretary on or before 30 December 2011. Conference Sponsorship Scheme 2011-2012 is now
open for submission. The closing date will be 30
November 2011.The main purpose of the Scheme is
to promote academic exchange activities among
students and staff. Through the provision of
financial support and sponsorship, to encourage
colleagues of United College to take the
initiative in planning and organizing academic
conferences. |
| 2011至2012年度學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃 (第二輪撥款申請) |
為協助同學獲得實際工作及研究經驗，書院設有一項「學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃」，鼓勵教職員任用同學作學生助手。學生助手目前的獎勵金額為每小時港幣五十元，服務範圍遍及各學系及行政部門。 2011至2012年度學生校園培訓及服務獎勵計劃第二輪撥款現正接受申請。書院學生輔導處已於11月10日寄發申請資料予本院教職員。如有查詢，請致電3943 8657或3943 1948與書院學生輔導處陳鄧翠怡女士或余慧儀女士聯絡。截止申請日期為2011年11月24日，書院將於2011年12月底前通知各申請人有關結果。 |
| Student Campus Training and Service Award Scheme 2011-2012 (2nd Allocation Exercise) |
The United College Student Campus Training and Service Award Scheme is set up by helping students to acquire working and research experience. Under the Scheme, students are engaged as helpers to serve at different academic and administrative departments and units. At present, the hourly rate is HK$50. Applications are now invited for the second-round allocation of the UC Student Campus Training and Service Award Scheme for 2011-2012. Details of the scheme have been dispatched to College members on 10 November 2011. For further information, please contact Mrs Eastre Chan or Ms Maggie W Y Yu of the Dean of Students’ Office at 3943 8657 or 3943 1948. Completed application forms should be submitted by 24 November 2011. Applicants will be notified the result by the end of December 2011. |

大學教育學院優化英語教學研究中心與香港教育研究學會於2011年8月8日至10日合辦第十六屆環太平洋應用語言學會大會。開幕禮由本院湯若望宿舍舍監、優化英語教學研究中心主任兼香港籌委會主席麥陳淑賢教授主持，書院副院長兼通識教育主任余濟美教授及本院資深書院導師孔憲煇教授均出席是次大會。 |
| 16th Conference of Pan-Pacific Association of Applied Linguistics (PAAL) |
The Centre for Enhancing English Learning and Teaching (CEELT) of the Faculty of Education organised the 16th Conference of Pan-Pacific Association of Applied Linguistics in collaboration with the Hong Kong Educational Research Association from 8 to 10 August 2011. Professor Barley Mak, Warden of Adam Schall Residence, Director of CEELT and local co-chairperson of PAAL, officiated the opening ceremony. Professor Jimmy C M Yu, Associate College Head and Dean of General Education, and Professor Joseph H W Hung, Senior College Tutor, also attended the ceremony. |
| 環境、能源及可持續發展研究所成立 |
環境、能源及可持續發展研究所於2011年10月22日舉行成立典禮暨學術研討會。本院成員、地理與資源管理學系教授兼研究所所長林健枝教授擔任主禮嘉賓之一。本院校友美國普林斯頓大學地球物理流體動力學實驗室劉雅章教授 (74/物理)則以「高分辨率數值模型在氣候研究中的應用」為題發表演講。 |
| Establishment of Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability (IEES) |
The opening ceremony and inaugural symposium of the IEES was held on 22 October 2011. College member, Professor Lam Kin-che, Department of Geography and Resource Management, and Director of IEES, was one of the officiating guests at the ceremony. Professor Gabriel Lau of the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory of Princeton University, USA (74/PHY), addressed “Applications of High-Resolution Numerical Models to Climate Research” at the symposium. |
