院長推薦委員會
現任聯合書院院長馮國培教授的任期將於2012年7月31日屆滿，根據《香港中文大學條例》規程9第1段，一個由校長出任主席，並由一名聯合書院校董會代表及聯合書院院務委員會選出的6名院務委員所組成的委員會，將向大學校董會推薦下任院長人選。此外，馮國培教授已連續擔任聯合書院院長十年，根據規程9第3段，馮教授將不能再獲委任。聯合書院校董會已於2011年11月23日選出校董會副主席張煊昌博士作為校董會代表。此外，書院院務委員會已於2011年12月15日投票選出以下六位委員，包括陳毅恒教授、朱利民教授、黃聿教授、林健枝教授、劉行榕教授及麥陳淑賢教授，參與院長推薦委員會的工作。校董會代表及六名院務委員已於2011年12月30日舉行首次會議，選出張煊昌博士為召集人，並於2012年1月初發出電郵，邀請有意成為下任院長的教職員表達意願。有關教職員、校友及學生的公開諮詢將於二月起舉行，以收集各持份者對院長遴選的意見。公開諮詢的日期及詳情將容後公佈。校董會代表及六名院務委員亦歡迎各位以Facebook：http://www.facebook.com/UC.next.Head 或透過院務主任李雷寶玲女士（電郵：christina-li@cuhk.edu.hk）表達意見。
Committee for the Appointment of Next Head of United College
The current term of office of Professor Fung Kwok-pui as Head of United College will expire on 31 July 2012. In accordance with paragraph 1 of Statute 9 of The Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance, a Committee under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor and consisting a representative of United College Board of Trustees and 6 Fellows elected by the Assembly of Fellows, shall recommend to the University Council the appointment of the next College Head. Moreover, in accordance with paragraph 3 of Statute 9, Professor Fung has served as Head of United College for three consecutive terms with an aggregate period of ten years and is not eligible for re-appointment. Dr Thomas H C Cheung, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of United College was elected on 23 November 2011 as the representative of the Board. The Assembly of Fellows has elected the following six Fellows to serve on the Committee at the election exercise concluded on 15 December 2011: Professor Chan Ngai Hang, Professor Chu Lee Man, Professor Huang Yu, Professor Lam Kin Che, Professor Lau Hang Yung Alaster and Professor Mak Chan Shuk Yin Barley. The representative of the Board and the six Fellows held the first meeting on 30 December 2011 and elected Dr Thomas H C Cheung as the Convenor. Call for intent is being dispatched in early January and consultation forums will also be held from February with all staff, alumni and students of the United College to collect their views on the appointment of the next College Head. 聯合書院五十五周年院慶餐舞會
為慶祝聯合書院五十五周年校慶，書院校友會和教職員聯誼會將於2012年3月30日(星期五) 晚上假沙田香港凱悅酒店舉辦聯合書院院慶餐舞會。這個五年一度的盛會，將以「半百晉五迎韶華」為主題，希望能讓不同年代的校友師生，新知舊雨，濟濟一堂。中大校董會主席鄭海泉博士將出任餐舞會榮譽贊助人，著名歌星陳潔靈女士會擔任表演嘉賓；其他節目包括晚宴、舞會、樂隊現場演出、幸運抽獎等。查詢請電本院學生輔導處莫林允先生或吳寶珊女士報名(查詢電話: 3943 1696/3943 7582)。
UC 55th Anniversary Banquet
To celebrate its 55th Anniversary, The Alumni Association and the Staff Association of United College will jointly organise an Anniversary Banquet on Friday, 30 March 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Shatin. It is hoped that this quinquennial event will bring members of the College together for a night of joyous wining, dining and dancing. Dr Vincent H C Cheng, Chairman of the Council of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, has kindly consented to be the Honorary Patron of the evening. The highlight of the evening will be a performance by the celebrated and ever-popular singer Ms Elisa Chan. There will also be lucky draws and a variety of live entertainments. 2012-2013年度宿舍收費及增加宿位諮詢會
中大各書院現正商討2012-2013年度學生宿舍收費事宜，以應付宿舍日常營運及維修費用，聯合書院院長馮國培教授於2012年1月10日（星期二）晚上在湯若望宿舍禮堂就此事舉行諮詢會，廣聽同學的意見，並探討應付由下學年起因學生人數的增加對宿位需求的解決方法。
Consultation on Hostel Fees and Increase of Hostel Places for 2012-2013
The constituent colleges of the University are now reviewing their undergraduate hostel fees for 2012-2013, in order to support the daily operations of the student hostels and to save adequate reserves for major renovations in future. A consultation session was held by Professor Fung Kwok-pui, Head of United College on Tuesday, 10 January 2012 at Adam Schall Hall to collect students' views on the hostel fees issue and to study the feasibility of increasing hostel places.

加州大學柏克萊分校到訪書院
加州大學柏克萊分校助理院長Professor Darin Menlove於2011年12月8日到訪聯合書院共商來年的學生交流活動。加州大學柏克萊分校（暑期課程）是書院邁進地球村系列合作院校之一。
University of California Berkeley Visited United College
Professor Darin Menlove, Assistant Director of Programmes, University of California Berkeley Summer Session visited the College on 8 December 2011 to discuss about the exchange activities for 2012. University of California Berkeley (Summer Session) is a partner university of the College GOAL progamme.
北京王府學校參觀聯合書院
約三十位來自北京王府學校的師生於2011年12月5日參觀書院，並了解書院制度及各項書院設施與活動。
Beijing Royal School Visited United College
About thirty teachers and students from Beijing Royal School visited the College on 5 December 2011. The delegation learned the College system and visited the campus facilities.
四川大學訪問聯合書院
四川大學成春教授率領的訪問團於2012年1月10日到訪本院，由副院長兼通識教育主任余濟美教授及助理院務主任陳文軒先生接待。
Sichuan University Visited United College
The delegation of Sichuan University, led by Professor Cheng Chun, visited the College on 10 January 2012. Professor Jimmy C M Yu, Associate College Head and Dean of General Education, and Mr Tony M H Chan, Assistant College Secretary, received the delegation.
第三屆世界華文旅遊文學國際學術研討會
由聯合書院、明報月刊、廣州暨南大學文學院及華南理工大學發展與改革研究院聯合主辦的第三屆世界華文旅遊文學學術研討會已於2011年12月10日至13日舉行。本屆主題為「行走的愉悅」。開幕禮於12月10日假大學祖堯堂舉行，蒙中央人民政府駐香港特別行政區聯絡辦公室宣傳文體部劉漢祺副部長、院長馮國培教授、香港藝術發展局王英偉主席、世界華文媒體有限公司主席張曉卿爵士、著名作家余光中教授、明報月刊總編輯潘耀明先生及多位學者蒞臨主禮，並獲校外嘉賓、大學及書院同仁等撥冗參加。開幕禮後大會安排參加者前往廣州，並於12月11日假廣州暨南大學進行分組會議，探討和分享關於旅遊文學的心得，並於華南理工學院舉行閉幕儀式及晚宴。是次研討會邀請到近一百名世界各地的知名作家、教授和學者聚首一堂，成果豐碩。本學術研討會蒙書院基金會贊助。
3rd International Conference on Travel Writings in Chinese
The 3rd International Conference on Travel Writings in Chinese, co-organised by United College, Ming Pao Monthly, Art Faculty of Jinan University, Guangzhou, and Development and Reform Institute of South China University of Technology was held from 10 to 13 December 2011. The theme of the conference was ‘Pleasure in Wandering’. The Opening Ceremony was held on 10 December 2011 at the Cho Yiu Conference Hall. Mr Liu Hanqi, Deputy Director General of the Publicity, Culture and Sports Department, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head; Mr Wilfred Y W Wong, Chairman of Hong Kong Arts Development Council; Tan Sri Datuk Sir Tiong Hiew King, Chairman of Media Chinese International Limited; Professor Yu Kuang-chung, renowned writer; Mr Poon Yiu-ming, Chief Editor of Ming Pao Monthly and other scholars officiated at the opening ceremony. Officers of the College and university, as well as other guests were also attending the ceremony. Participants were then headed to Guangzhou to have various discussion forums in Jinan University on 11 December 2011. Closing ceremony and dinner took placed in South China University of Technology thereafter. Over 100 prominent writers, professors and scholars worldwide presented their papers and contributed to this fruitful conference. This International Conference is sponsored by the United College Endowment Fund.
順風計劃——宿生退宿義載服務
本年度聯合書院學生宿舍上學期住宿於2011年12月30日(星期五) 完結，書院特別安排於當日上午10時至中午12時，邀請參與書院順風計劃的教職員為退宿的宿生提供義載服務，由各宿舍前往大學港鐵站。
Hitch-offer Campaign—In Aid of Residents Moving Out of Student Hostels
The first term residence for 2011-2012 at UC student hostels ended on Friday, 30 December 2011. To help students move out of their hostels on that day, the College had invited staff members participating in the Hitch-offer Campaign to provide free transportation to ferry students from their respective hostels to the University MTR Station during 10:00 am-12:00 noon.
香港國際馬拉松2012——聯合書院隊
香港國際馬拉松2012將於2012年2月5日（星期日）舉行，書院已招募超過五十名聯合員生及校友加入聯合書院隊，並於2012年1月13日舉行講座及誓師大會，為隊員做好準備。當日得中大田徑隊教練邱永強先生主持講座及熱身跑活動，與出席者分享參加馬拉松比賽所需注意事項，並親身在跑道上作技術指導。
Hong Kong Marathon 2012—United College Team
The Hong Kong Marathon 2012 will take place on Sunday, 5 February 2012. United College Team, comprised of over 50 UC students, staff members and alumni, was formed to participate in this popular sport event. In order to help team members to prepare for the race, a lecture and pledging ceremony was held on 13 January 2012. Mr Yau Wing-keung, coach of CUHK Track and Field Team, provided tips on marathon training and personal guidance on the athlete track.
雲淡風輕——陳之藩教授文物特展
由香港中文大學聯合書院、工程學院及台灣國立成功大學合辦的「雲淡風輕——陳之藩教授文物特展」，現於香港中文大學聯合書院胡忠多媒體圖書館二樓舉行，展期為2012年1月14日至2012年3月13日。本行是學電機工程的陳之藩教授，1955年離開台灣負笈美國，1957年獲賓夕法尼亞大學碩士學位，之後再獲英國劍橋大學博士學位。1977年在麻省理工學院擔任客座科學家，同年於中大電子學系出任講座教授暨系主任，總共七年。2000年起擔任前身為電子學系的中大電子工程學系榮譽教授。陳之藩教授是優游於文學國度的科學家，也是涵泳於科學世界的文學家。他早年以《旅美小簡》、《在春風裏》、《劍河倒影》等一系列著作飲譽文壇，文章還選入香港和台灣的中文教科書，影響了幾代香港和台灣讀者，後來國內教科書也收錄其文章。為表揚陳之藩教授對書院各方面的貢獻並展示其文學成就，特舉辦是次展覽。展覽開幕禮已於2012年1月14日下午3時正假香港中文大學聯合書院胡忠多媒體圖書館二樓舉行。展覽開放時間如下：星期一至五上午8:20至下午10:00 星期六上午8:20 至下午7:00 星期日下午1:00 至下午7:00 農曆新年期間之開放時間： 2012年1月22日下午1:00 至下午5:00 2012年1月23至25日暫停開放 2012年1月26及27日上午9:00至下午7:00 2012年1月28日上午9:00 至下午5:00 2012年1月29日下午1:00 至下午7:00 如有查詢，請致電3943 1844或3943 7455與學生輔導處高榮銘先生或楊頌妍女士聯絡。
Documentary Exhibition of Professor Chen Chih-fan
Documentary Exhibition of Professor Chen Chih-fan, co-organised by United College, Faculty of Engineering and National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, is now held at 2/F, Wu Chung Multimedia Library, United College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The exhibition period is from 14 January 2012 to 13 March 2012. Trained as an electronic engineer, Professor Chen Chih-fan left Taiwan to study in the US in 1955 and received his MS degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1957 and his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1971. In 1977 he was a visiting scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and he saw a recruitment advertisement from CUHK. He responded to the ad and came to CUHK to serve as Professor of Electronics and chairman of the department for seven years. From 2000 onwards, he served as an honorary professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering, the successor of the former Department of Electronics. Professor Chen is a scientist travelling the realm of literature and is an essayist roaming the world of science. His essays, which have been collected in Chinese textbooks in Hong Kong and Taiwan, have inspired generations of Hong Kong and Taiwan readers. Recently his essays were also collected in Chinese textbooks in China. An exhibition has been organised in recognition of Professor Chen and his significant contribution to the College with achievement in literature. Opening ceremony was held at 3:00pm on 14 January 2012 at 2/F, Wu Chung Multimedia Library, United College.
