  梁鶴年留學獎學金捐獎人與獲獎同學會面
 
書院於2012年1月9日晚上，安排獲得梁鶴年留學獎學金的得獎同學與捐獎人會面。捐獎人梁鶴年伉儷及女兒、書院院長馮國培教授、書院副院長兼輔導長王香生教授、書院獎學金委員會主席胡錦生教授以及書院同仁等均有出席。梁鶴年留學獎學金由1994年起設立，旨在資助本院畢業生前往海外著名學府繼續升學，修讀為人類造益的課程。
  Dinner for Donors and Recipients of the S Leung Postgraduate Scholarship
 
United College has organised a gathering for donors and recipients of the S Leung Postgraduate Scholarship on 9 January 2012. Mr Stephen Leung and his family, donors of the S Leung Postgraduate Scholarship; Professor Fung Kwok-pui, Head of United College; Professor Stephen H S Wong, Associate College Head and Dean of Students; Professor Woo Kam-sang, Chairman of the Scholarships Committee as well as officers of the College were present to meet the students. The S Leung Postgraduate Scholarship was set up in 1994. It aims to sponsor graduates of United College to pursue full-time human-service-related postgraduate programme in reputable overseas educational institutions.


  2012年聯合書院歌唱比賽
 
一年一度，由書院學生會籌辦的歌唱比賽決賽將於2012年2月16日(星期四)晚上7時30分假大學邵逸夫堂舉行，本屆主題為「Staccato」(斷奏)，籌委會希望能透過三個組別的精彩比賽和表演，為參賽者及觀眾帶來一個極具娛樂性的活動及節目。票價訂為30元，於2012年1月30日至2月15日期間於文化廣場及聯合飯堂攤位發售。歡迎大學教職員及學生踴躍支持，查詢或訂票請與籌委會潘蔣傑同學聯絡，電話6684 1677，電郵地址 12unitedsing@gmail.com。
  United College Singing Contest 2012
 
Organised by the College Student Union, the Singing Contest of 2012 will be held on Thursday, 16 February at 7:30 pm at Sir Run Run Shaw Hall. The theme of this year is “Staccato”. The student organisers would bring all participants and attendants to enjoy the contests and the performances arranged. Tickets of $30 each will be available for sale at the Cultural Square and the College Student Canteen counters from 30 January to 15 February 2012.   2011-2012年度書院獎學金
 
以下獎項已開始接受申請：

馮秉芬獎
獎額共二名，每名港幣五萬元。由馮秉芬爵士家族每年捐資成立。該獎學金旨在推廣「德智體群美」五育的全人發展。獲獎的本院畢業班同學可選擇繼續進修，參與國際學術交流及研討活動或發展創意工業。

明德新民傑出貢獻獎
獎額一名，港幣一萬元，由聯合書院明德新民校友基金資助。旨在獎勵於在學期間對大學及書院作出傑出服務及貢獻的畢業班同學。

戴麟趾爵士獎學金
獎額共五名，每名港幣一萬元。該獎學金旨在獎勵於在學期間積極參與課外活動，並在領導才能方面有傑出表現的本院畢業班同學。

聯合書院明德獎
獎額一名，港幣五萬元，旨在表揚在大學肆業期間整體學業成績卓越，在領袖才能及服務方面亦有相當表現的本院應屆畢業生。此項書院最高榮譽的獎學金將會在書院院慶典禮上頒發，並由老師宣讀讚辭，得獎人的資料亦會永久保存在書院檔案。

聯合書院新民獎
獎額一名，港幣五萬元，旨在表揚在大學肆業期間整體的校內外服務及其領袖才能有傑出表現，在學業成績亦有相當水平的本院應屆畢業生。此項書院最高榮譽的獎學金將會在書院院慶典禮上頒發，並由老師宣讀讚辭，得獎人的資料亦會永久保存在書院檔案。

書院本年度設有體育運動獎三十八名，每名港幣一千元至一萬元，頒予在體育活動方面有傑出表現之聯合同學。申請者須由書院輔導長、書院院系聯絡人或體育部職員提名。

獎額一名，港幣十二萬元，資助本院畢業生前往海外著名學府繼續升學。凡修讀為人類造福的課程並承諾於學成後回港服務之申請人將被優先考慮。

邵逸夫爵士留學獎學金
獎額一至兩名，合共港幣四萬元，資助本院應屆畢業生前往海外著名學府繼續升學。

鄭棟材研究獎學金
獎額一至兩名，合共港幣五萬元，資助本院畢業生在本港或海外著名學府繼續升學。申請人年齡須少於二十六歲。

  College Scholarships for 2011-2012
 
Applications are now invited for the following scholarships and awards:

Fung Ping Fan Scholarships
Two scholarships, in the amount of HK$50,000 each, were established with the donation from the family of Sir Kenneth Fung Ping Fan in his memory, to support final-year students of United College in pursuit of whole person development along the five core areas: ethical and moral, intellectual, physical, social and interpersonal and aesthetic. These scholarships may be used for postgraduate studies, for participation in international events or as seed money to start creative entrepreneurial projects.

Ming De Xin Min Distinguished Service Award
This Award, in the amount of HK$10,000, was established through a donation from the “Ming De Xin Min Alumni Fund”. The prize will be made to final-year students who have made significant contributions to the College or the University during their undergraduate studies.

Sir David Trench Scholarships
These scholarships, five in total of HK$10,000 each, are awarded to final-year students with good leadership qualities and outstanding contribution to student activities and/ or community services.

United College Ming De Scholarship
This Scholarship, in the amount of HK$50,000, was established by the College to honour a final-year United College student for having achieved academic excellence, manifested leadership ability as well as performed outstanding services to the College and the Community at large during his/her tenure at the University. The recipient will additionally be honoured with a public citation at the College’s Anniversary Ceremony; a record of his/her accomplishments will be kept in the College archives.

United College Xin Min Scholarship
This Scholarship, in the amount of HK$50,000, was established by the College to honour a final-year United College student who has performed the best service for the benefit of the College and the community throughout his/her University study while at the same time demonstrating a capability for sustained academic advancement. The recipient will additionally be honoured with a public citation at the College’s Anniversary Ceremony; a record of his/her accomplishments will be kept in the College archives.

United College Athletic Awards
United College offers a total of 38 athletic awards, ranging in value from HK$1,000 to HK$10,000, for the year 2011-2012. These prizes will be awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional athletic and sports abilities or who have made significant contributions towards the promotion of on-campus sports activities during the year. Nominations should be made through the College Dean of Students or College Coordinators or staff of Physical Education Unit.

United College Postgraduate Scholarships

S Leung Postgraduate Scholarship
This scholarship, in the amount of HK$120,000, is awarded to graduates of United College to pursue full-time postgraduate programme in reputable overseas educational institution. Preferences will be given to those students who plan to pursue a higher degree in human-service-related discipline. Students indicating willingness to return to Hong Kong after studies overseas will have a distinct advantage.

Sir Run Run Shaw Postgraduate Scholarship(s)
One to two scholarships, in a total amount of HK$40,000, will be awarded to fresh graduates of United College to start off their first year of postgraduate studies at recognized overseas universities.

T C Cheng Postgraduate Scholarship(s)
One to two scholarships, in a total amount of HK$50,000, will be awarded to graduates of United College to pursue postgraduate studies at recognized universities in Hong Kong or abroad. Applicants are preferably under 26 years of age.

  書院聚會──粵語辯論賽
 


聯合書院粵語辯論隊邀請香港科技大學中文辯論隊於2012年1月30日下午2時30分在聯合書院鄭棟材樓C1講堂進行友誼辯論賽，辯題為「免費報紙對香港報業發展利多於弊」，並由立法會議員馮檢基先生、政治與行政學系毛孟靜女士及黃偉豪教授擔任比賽評判。

賽前由聯合書院院長馮國培教授及聯合書院粵語辯論隊隊監黃鉅鴻教授致送紀念品予三位評判。

聯合書院副院長兼通識教育主任余濟美教授頒獎予勝出隊伍香港科技大學中文辯論隊(正方)。

 


  College Assembly—Debate Match in Cantonese
 
United College Cantonese Debate Team invited The Chinese Debating Team of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to have a friendly debate match at 2:30pm on 30 January 2012 at Lecture Theatre C1, T C Cheng Building, United College. The motion was “Free newspapers do more good than harm on Hong Kong newspaper industry”. The Hon Frederick K K Fung, Legislative Council Member, Ms Claudia M C Mo and Professor Wilson W H Wong from Department of Government and Public Administration were the judges of the match.

College Souvenirs were presented to the three judges by Professor Fung Kwok-pui, College Head and Professor Jeremiah K H Wong, Warden of the United College Cantonese Debate Team.

The result was the Chinese Debating Team of HKUST (supporting the motion) won the debate. Professor Jimmy C M Yu, Associate College Head and Dean of General Education, presented the prize to the winning team.

United College Summer English and Putonghua Camps are now open for application. The details are as follows:

Application is open from 20 February to 30 March 2012. The camps are free of charge with limited quota, enrolled on a first-come-first-served basis.   Seminar on General Education and Siku Quanshu (Wenyuange Edition)
 
Siku Quanshu is the largest collection of books between Qin and mid-Qing Dynasty. Siku Quanshu (Wenyuange Edition) has comphensative searching function with tools for research. Content and the electronic version of Siku Quanshu will be covered in the seminar.   聯合書院「師生共膳計劃」
 
為了加強院內師生的聯繫，聯合書院於2006年起推出「聯合書院師生共膳計劃」，以鼓勵不同學院的老師和同學，透過一同出席晚宴，加強彼此溝通及對書院的認識。本年度第二次「師生共膳計劃」已於2012年2月1日晚上聯合書院學生飯堂舉行。約三十多名聯合書院的師生參與是次晚宴，師生互相交流，氣氛熱烈。

  United College Dinner
 
The United College Dinner was first launched in 2006 and its main objective is to facilitate more interactions between College staff and students beyond the class. The second United College Dinner of this year was held on 1 February 2012 at the United College Student Canteen. Over 30 staff and students from the College joined the Dinner and had a delightful evening.

The last UC Dinner of this academic year is open to all students of the College. Details are as below:

  創意學生活動獎勵計劃接受申請
 
書院為鼓勵同學籌辦具創意的活動，特設「創意學生活動獎」供本院同學或學生團體申請。計劃目的在於鼓勵學生或學生團體籌辦優質活動；提高學生及學生組織的積極性；及推動學生積極投入校園生活。

是項計劃現正公開接受申請。歡迎聯合書院學生會認可的學生團體或本院同學以個人或小組名義申請。申請表格及計劃書可於2012年3月9日(星期五)或以前向書院學生輔導處遞交。

得獎人或單位將獲得資助，作為籌辦該項活動的經費。開支實報實銷，得獎個人或團體須向書院呈交活動及財政報告。本計劃由聯合書院鄭棟材博士紀念基金資助，申請表格可於書院學生輔導處索取或於書院網頁下載，查詢請電3943 7570 與書院學生輔導處莫林允先生或何惠芬女士聯絡。
  Creative Student Activity Award Programme Now Opens for Application
 
To encourage students to organise new or creative activities, the College has established the Creative Student Activity Award Programme since 2002.The aims of the Award are: (i) to increase the organisation of quality student activities on campus to benefit all College students; (ii) to foster the development of an active spirit amongst student organisations; and (iii) to motivate students to participate in and support College life.

The Programme for 2012 is now open for application. Students or student organisations registered with the United College Student Union are eligible to apply. Interested parties should submit the applications and activity proposals to the Dean of Students’ Office on or before Friday, 9 March 2012.

The winning student(s) or organisation(s) will be subsidised according to their programme proposals. Detailed activity and financial reports must be submitted to the College upon completion of the programme. This award programme is funded by the United College T C Cheng Memorial Fund. Application forms are available at the Dean of Students’ Office or from the College homepage.
