In memory of Dr Tse Yuen Man (1992 Graduate of
United College)
– the first medical doctor to die of SARS in the public hospitals’
front line team
fighting against the disease
United College mourns with great sadness the passing of Dr Tse Yuen
Man on 13 May 2003.
Dr
Tse was a 1992 graduate of United College and a caring and committed
doctor of Tuen Mun Hospital. She volunteered to work in the front
line soon after the outbreak of SARS. Unfortunately she contracted
the disease herself in early April and finally sacrificed her own life
for fighting against the disease and saving the lives of her
patients.
Dr
Tse joined United College in 1986 after completing Form Six at the
T.W.G.Hs Mrs Wu York Yu Memorial College. She was admitted into the
Medical Faculty with excellent performances in the HKCEE. She studied
Medicine in the University 1986-1992 and was a resident of Hang Seng
Hall at United College 1988-89.
In
her own words Dr Tse wrote down her visions for her life and career
when joining United College in 1986, “I vow to become a good medical
doctor….. and will dedicate my learning and career to serving the Hong
Kong community and its people…..”
No
doubt Dr Tse had fulfilled her vision, and for that she had to
sacrifice her life. Her courage in fighting against the disease and
selfless devotion to saving her patients deserve our highest
respect. She will be long and sadly missed by everyone at United
College and the University.
