Undergraduate research has been an integral part of our curriculum. The Faculty of Science at CUHK has launched a study stream, Science Technology and Research Stream (STARS), for students with strong interest and ability and wish to gain wider exposure in science. STARS students have access to cutting-edge research facilities where they can participate in research starting from junior year under the supervision of our professors. They will also be able to join international conferences, seminars and outgoing exchange programmes.
In view of the growing need for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) talents in the global community, a STEM Talent Scheme is launched for admission of students with breadth and in-depth exposure as well as achievement in STEM. Students who achieve in HKDSE at least “3 Stars” in 3 STEM elective subjects and place programme(s) of the Faculty of Science as one of their top JUPAS choices would be reviewed by a dedicated selection panel for special consideration.
The Faculty of Science admits HKDSE candidates via Broad-Based Admission (SCIENCE JS4601) and Programme-Based Admission. Our SCIENCE programme (JS4601) allows students the flexibility to explore and choose from a total of 11 major programmes (Biochemistry, Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Earth System Science, Environmental Science, Food and Nutritional Sciences, Mathematics, Molecular Biotechnology, Physics, and Statistics). Students are encouraged to keep an open mind in order to gain full access to the vast range of programmes offered. Around 370 students will be admitted into the SCIENCE programme, and there is no quota for specific majors, ensuring that admission to individual major programmes is based on students' choice.
Earth System Science (Atmospheric Science / Geophysics) (JS4633), Enrichment Mathematics (JS4682), Enrichment Stream in Theoretical Physics (JS4690), Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science (JS4276), and Risk Management Science (JS4719) admit students via the Programme-Based Admission scheme.
Aside from academic performance, the Faculty of Science will also consider other attainments such as outstanding Other Experiences and Achievements (OEA), excellent sports performance, or School Principal’s Nominations (SPN).
Here at the Faculty of Science, we welcome students from all backgrounds. Don’t forget to put your desired CUHK Science programmes as your top Band A choices!
We wish you every success in your HKDSE and we look forward to seeing you soon on our beautiful and diverse CUHK campus!
