 Dear Students,
"What kind of students do you want to have in
the medical school?" This was one of the most
frequently asked questions raised by prospective
medical students who came to our briefing meetings
organised for high school students in the past
years. Many students may have the impression that
in order to enroll into the medical programme, one
just has to be able to achieve the highest
academic grades in the Hong Kong Certificate of
Education Examination (HKCEE) or General
Certificate of Secondary Education Examination
(GCSE), and be articulate and eloquent in the
entrance interviews. My reply to this question,
however, is that a medical student should have the
attributes of a good doctor, and in my opinion, a
good doctor must be a very responsible person, and
one who always put the interest of his patients
first. He or she therefore should have an
unselfish personality and a passion to help
others.
亲爱的同学们：
在过去几年的医学院入学简介会上，有志成为医科生的高中生常问：「医学院希望录取怎么样的学生呢？」学生总以为要在中学会考或高级程度会考中考取最优秀的学业成积，且在入学面试中表现得口齿伶俐，能言善辩，才有机会入读医学院。但我却认为，好的医生应恪守职责，凡事以病人为先，具备无私付出之情怀和乐于助人之热诚。；医科生必须具备以上特质，才能成为优秀的医生，悬壶济世。

| 中大膺数学研究最出色亚洲大学 |
 CUHK was rated one of the top 50
universities for mathematics in the world by
Times Higher Education. Times Higher Education
worked with its data supplier Thomson Reuters to
do an analysis of the world’s top research
institutions for mathematics based on citation
impact of research papers and found that CUHK is
the highest ranked institution from Asia for
this subject area, and 15th in the world.
中大获《泰晤士报高等教育》评选全球五十所数学研究最出色大学之一。《泰晤士报高等教育》与它的数据供应商汤森路透，根据研究论文的引用影响力评选全球最佳的数学研究机构，中大名列全球第十五，另一所入选的亚洲大学则名列三十五。 |

| Robots Go

| 新型爬树机器人面世 |
|
 Prof. Xu Yangsheng (right),

Robotics Laboratory, and Dr. Lam Tin-lun (left)
from the same laboratory invented a
tree-climbing robot called the Treebot. The
light and manoeuvrable robot can climb up trunks
of different diameters and navigate complex
branches with a caterpillar-like motion.
Featuring a bendable body and two grippers,
the Treebot can be used to monitor tree health
and control pests. It can also be used as a tool
for ecological observation. The arboreal robot
weighs only 600 grams but can carry a payload
three times its own weight. So, it can be fitted
with different devices to carry out different
tasks.
副校长兼现代机器人实验室主任徐扬生教授（右）与该实验室林天麟博士（左）研发出具全方位活动能力的爬树机器人。此名为爬树宝宝的机器人具有可弯曲的身躯，两端各有一组机械爪，能以毛虫爬行的伸缩动作在各种粗细的树干爬行，而且能在不规则的枝桠之间游走， 较其它只能垂直向上爬行的爬树机械人灵活。
爬树宝宝可用于树木检查、保养及病虫害防治等工作，亦可用于监察树上生态的科学研究，用途广泛。它的重量仅六百克，能负载重量达自身体重三倍的对象，因此能视乎用途，配备各种仪器。 |

香港中文大学医学院三十周年院庆晚宴 |

The year 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of
the Faculty of Medicine, the 20th anniversary of
the Nethersole School of Nursing, and the 10th
anniversary of the School of Public Health and
Primary Care of The Chinese University of Hong
Kong.
The Faculty Gala Dinner was held on 11 June
at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition
Centre as the highlight of celebration
activities taking place throughout the year. The
Guest of Honour, The Honourable Wong Yan Lung,
Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region, addressed and officiated
at the dinner along with Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung,
Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. T.F. Fok, Dean of
Medicine, CUHK. Over 2,200 guests comprising
government officials, senior university members,
benefactors, teaching staff, students and
alumni, and friends of the Faculty attended the
dinner to celebrate another milestone of the
Faculty.
二零一一年标志着香港中文大学医学院创院三十周年，同年亦是那打素护理学院创院二十周年及公共卫生及基层医疗学院成立十周年。
为庆祝三院院庆，医学院今年内将举办一连串庆祝活动，亮点活动于六月十一日在香港会议展览中心举行的院庆晚宴。承蒙香港特别行政区律政司司长黄仁龙资深大律师莅临担任主礼嘉宾，与中大校长沈祖尧教授及医学院院长霍泰辉教授分别在晚宴上致辞。逾二千二百名政府官员、大学领导及管理人员、社会贤达、医学院教职员、毕业生、学生及友好等出席晚宴，共同庆祝医学院踏入新里程，气氛热闹。

2010年社会学系 甲等荣誉毕业
现于香港中文大学修读社会学硕士学位
高中：山东省泰安市第一中学
 时光荏苒，四年匆匆而过。回首大学生活，真是有说不尽的故事，数不完的收获；中大带给我的，远比我想象得更多。
自由的课程选择，让我充分了解自己的兴趣，最终选择了适合自己的专业；
丰富的通识教育，让我在钻研专业知识之余还多了几分广博；平易近人、亦师亦友的教授，不仅耐心指导我的学业，更乐于解答我生活上的困惑；
与各国名校的交换机会，让几乎所有希望扩展国际视野的同学都能有精彩的海外经历，我也幸运地参与了赴耶鲁大学与迈阿密大学的交流活动；
令人眼花缭乱的诸多实习机会，让我们学以致用、迅速提升个人能力，在《亚洲周刊》及汉达康福协会的实习给我留下了难以磨灭的记忆；
各种奖学金不断肯定着我的成绩，也督促我毫不松懈、继续努力；种类繁多的学生社团如辩论队、话剧社、合唱团……让我遇到最投契的朋友、为共同的梦想与快乐而奋斗；
而各种义工、支教、志愿服务活动，则让我得以为公民社会尽一份绵薄之力。
我很庆幸得到了继续在中大修读硕士的机会，因为面对这座太美丽的校园，我舍不得离开。
