Regulations Governing Admission to Full-time Undergraduate Studies

(For Admission in 2024 and beyond)

 

1. General
1.1 Applicants seeking admission to a course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree of the University shall have satisfied the minimum entrance requirements of the University and the programme concerned.
1.2 Applicants seeking admission on the strength of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) results shall apply for admission in accordance with the stipulations in Section 2.
1.3 Applicants seeking admission on the strength of qualifications other than HKDSE results shall apply for admission in accordance with the stipulations in Section 3.

 

2. Admission on the Strength of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination Results
2.1

Minimum University requirements for application

Applicants shall have obtained in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE)

  1. Level 3 in Chinese Language^ and English Language; and
  2. Level 2 in Mathematics (Compulsory Part); and
  3. "Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development; and
  4. a level as stipulated by the programme(s) applied for in two subjects# as approved by the University from time to time.

Subject to fulfilling the following conditions, JUPAS applicants with very special circumstances may, at the discretion of the faculty deans concerned and on a case-by-case basis, be granted waivers of this requirement:

The applicants concerned

  1. should NOT have taken the Chinese Language subject in HKDSE; and
  2. should have obtained a pass grade or above in a Chinese subject or in another language subject (other than English and Chinese) in other recognised public examinations as approved by the University from time to time.

The two subjects may include

  1. 2 elective subjects; or
  2. 1 elective subject and Mathematics (Extended Part) Module I or Module II.

2.2

Requirements of the programmes

In addition to satisfying the University requirements, applicants shall satisfy the additional requirements of the programme concerned.

2.3

Criteria for selection

Applicants shall be considered on the basis of the results they obtained in HKDSE, and their academic and extra-curricular achievements.  If they are invited to attend an interview, their performance at the interview will also be taken into consideration.

 

3.   Admission on the Strength of Qualifications Other than Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination Results note 1

3.1

Minimum University requirements for application

Applicants shall be eligible to apply for admission if, by 1st September of the year in which admission is sought, they

  1. possess a recognised non-local qualification which qualifies them for admission to a university in the country/region where such qualification is originated; or

  2. have successfully completed at least one year of undergraduate study at a recognised university; or

  3. have successfully completed at least one year of study leading to the qualification of associate degree/higher diploma or its equivalent; or

  4. have obtained in:

    1. the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, grade E or above in at least seven subjects; and
    2. the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination, grade E or above in at least two Advanced Level and two Advanced Supplementary Level subjects*; or

  5. are mature persons aged 23 or above on 1st September in the year in which admission is sought, provided they are able to show either by publication or by other acceptable evidence that they have achieved sufficient competence in their chosen field of study to justify admission; or have shown exceptional ability in appropriate academic or professional fields; or

  6. have other exceptional achievements which merit admission.

Applicants shall also have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in both the Chinese and English languages, unless exempted from this language requirement by the University**.

 
Note 1

Applicants who meet specific requirements as stipulated by the University for particular qualifications may apply for “Admission with Advanced Standing”.  The minimum number of units for graduation for students admitted with Advanced Standing may be reduced by up to 24 (normative period of study may be reduced by up to one year).

One of the two Advanced Level subjects may be substituted by two additional Advanced Supplementary Level subjects.  Advanced Supplementary Level (AS) subjects refer to all AS subjects under Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination including Chinese Language & Culture and Use of English

Waivers of the Chinese language admission requirement may be granted to individual non-JUPAS applicants, at the discretion of the faculty deans concerned, on the condition that the non-JUPAS applicant concerned should have pursued a curriculum leading to a recognised non-local qualification at secondary or above level prior to admission.


3.2

Requirements of the programmes

In addition to satisfying the University requirements, applicants shall satisfy the additional requirements of the programme concerned.

3.3

Criteria for selection

Applicants will be considered on the basis of their educational background and academic achievements.  If they are invited to attend an interview, their performance at the interview will also be taken into consideration.
