Project Objectives

To investigate the social networks / learning of international exchange students / local returnees, identify ways to foster intercultural friendships/education abroad learning, and support CUHK’s Annual Study Abroad Writing contest.

Key deliverables expected and timelines for completion

  • Before the midterm report, the analysis of a full cohort of the Intercultural transitions course will be completed and case studies will be prepared.
  • In November 2013, CUHK’s 3rd Annual Study Abroad Writing Contest will begin.
  • The final report will offer recommendations to enhance local-international student interactions/bolster study abroad learning.
  • Arrangements for evaluation of project deliverables/outcomes

  • Pre- and post-course, surveys (e.g., the Intercultural Development Inventory) will be administered to measure intercultural sensitivity / learning; interviews will be conducted post-course.
  • Means for disseminating project deliverables/outcomes

  • The winning study abroad essays will be posted on the University’s Office of Academic Links (OAL) website.
  • The findings will be disseminated through publications / conference presentations. Each year, a poster/paper will be presented at CUHK’s Teaching and Learning Innovation EXPO.
  • The outcomes will be shared with the OAL to facilitate their work.
