Prelude

Fantasia in C minor, BWV 537 by J.S.Bach

Call to Worship

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…… All these people were still living by faith when they died…… they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth……Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. (Hebrews 12:1, 2 a;11:13, 16)

Hymn

數算主恩 Count the Blessings ( 場刊第11 頁,Please refer to Page 11)

Prayer

Scripture Lesson

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. (Psalm 1).

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:7-14)

Special Music

Rainbow   English translation by Andrew Wai Man NG

From the sky the tears drip, on the earth the flowers sip.
Life apart from the tearful eyes, see not the joyful signs.
Fear not the agony fear not the pain,
before long abundant reward they bring.
Behold the beautiful rainbow, they are traces of God’s tears.
Behold the beautiful rainbow, they are traces of God’s tears.
Behold the beautiful rainbow,
they are transformed from the divine pain.

From the sky the tears drip, on the earth the flowers sip.
Life apart from the tearful eyes, see not the joyful signs.
Embrace the agony enfold the pain.
Behold the beautiful rainbow,
they are the residue of God’s tears.
Behold the beautiful rainbow,
they are the residue of God’s tears.
Behold the beautiful rainbow,
they are transformed from the divine pain.
They are transformed from the divine pain.

Special Music

Lord, at all times I will bless Thee (by Felix Mendelsohn)

Lord, at all times I will bless Thee,
and in songs of praise address Thee;
yea, my soul shall boast in Thee:
Let the humble gladly hear me, let the godly gather near me,
and exalt Thy name with me, and exalt, exalt Thy name,
exalt Thy name with me.
When the poor man wept and craved,
when in trouble he was saved,
when he cried, he was heard, when he cried, he was heard.
Come, ye children, bow in duty;
radiant everlasting beauty crowneth them that fear the Lord.
Taste, and see the Lord is gracious,
bounteous as the heavens are spacious.
Taste, and see the Lord is good.
Taste, and see the Lord is good.
He that feedeth every lion,
will not let a child of Zion Droop and die,
droop and die for lack of food;
droop and die, droop and die for lack of food.

Special Music

He giveth his beloved sleep (based on Psalm 127, by J. Benedict)

Sleep is thine when work is done,
when has sunk the glorious sun,
while the watch-fire stars are lit,
while the mid-night shadows flit,
he thy brow in calm shall steep who giveth his beloved,
his beloved sleep.
Heed Thou not the rising storm, peaceful rest thy helpless form,
evil men shall not come nigh thee, evil angels pass not by thee,
one thy watch and ward shall keep, one thy ward shall keep,
he giveth His beloved sleep. He giveth His beloved sleep.

Always On our Father’s Mind

Stars in the sky are shining bright,
while young grass on earth's sleeping tight.
Somewhere beyond the starry heights,
our Father watches day and night.

Eyes of the stars keep on blinking,
into my ears their words are pouring,
in a soft and tender measure whispering :
"You're always on our Father's mind".

Oh wee stars dear! Oh wee stars dear!
You have unfolded a grave secret here :
"We're always on our Father's mind".

Ah, Ah, Ah …, Mm, Mm, Mm….
