Welcome back to Term 2!

We hope that you have enjoyed a restful and happy winter break. Although we are disappointed that HK again faces an outbreak of community transmission of COVID-19, teaching and learning will not stop.  

In this issue, we are putting together some handy information on the systems, tools, and services available to support you in Term 2 under different teaching and learning arrangements.

Teaching with Tech Overview

• We recommend all teachers go through the "Teaching with Tech Overview", a presentation that intends to provide teachers (and TAs and support staff) one-stop access to updates on eLearning systems, tools, services, and features for the 2021/22 academic year.
• A few highlights:
  • Test the AV and computing equipment of your assigned classrooms/lecture theatres (e.g. how to connect to the Internet).
  • Get hands-on with your chosen educational technologies (e.g. "CUHK Blackboard" to share course contents, perform course-based communication with your students, collect assignments, deliver tests; "CUHK Panopto" to record your lecture, MMs and share them with your students).
  • If you do not yet have experience using the CUHK ZOOM service to deliver synchronous online classes, please make time to try it.  You may need to use the service to support students who cannot attend classes (e.g. cannot return due to travel restriction, under mandatory quarantine).

Additionally, two "open Q&As" ZOOM sessions have been scheduled at 12:30 pm - 1:15 pm on Jan 11 (Tue) and Jan 13 (Thurs).  The sessions intend to allow colleagues to informally meet and discuss educational technologies, their pedagogical uses and how they can better support your teaching and student learning at CUHK.  Professor Paul Lam (CLEAR & ELITE) and Judy Lo (ITSC & ELITE) will be the session facilitators.

Envision the Future of CUHK eLearning - ELITE

The newsletter is sent to all academic staff (all ranks; full-time and part-time) according to information provided by the Human Resources Office by email regularly. With the feedback received, this newsletter is sent additionally to all users in 2021-22 Blackboard courses with course instructor role and TA / Support Staff role. Please help to share the information with staff/student TAs and colleagues with teaching support duties of your unit.
