Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school after a well-deserved Summer break! As the new academic year begins, we would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our returning faculty members, support colleagues, and TAs and a heartfelt welcome to those new to the University.

We hope that you had a restful Summer and that you are ready to tackle the exciting challenges that lie ahead. Here are a few updates and reminders to help you get started:

  • New Academic Year: To ensure everyone is up-to-date with the latest eLearning systems, tools, services, and features, we have updated the Teaching with Tech Overview and Learning with Tech Overview presentations.  They are intended to provide you with a comprehensive overview of the updates and the technology available for the 2023/24 academic year. A few highlights:
    • Classroom Internet Connection: New method;
    • Blackboard: (i) Set Course Availability - Remember to open your Blackboard course for student access; (ii) New AI Features in Blackboard Ultra;
    • Classroom Recording: When using Panopto for recording, ensure the upload has been completed before closing the recorder software.  Alternatively, can use ZOOM for recording and Panopto for sharing the recordings with students and tracking recording view statistics;
    • Pilot ChatGPT Service for Teaching and Learning: Available for application;
    • Courseware Development Grant Scheme (CDGS): Open for application.
  • Upcoming Events: We have many exciting events planned for the upcoming semester. Stay tuned for more information!
  • IT Support: As always, our support team is here to help you with any technology-related issues you may encounter throughout the academic year. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you need assistance.

We also would like to take this opportunity to share Dr Clayton R. Wright's list of Educational Technology & Education Conferences Edition #49 with you. We would like to express our special thanks to Clayton for his kindness in allowing us to redistribute the list.

Once again, welcome back to school! We look forward to working with you in the coming months.

Early Feedback Collection System (2023-24 Term 1)

  • Early Feedback Collection System is designed to capture student feedback on individual classes in the middle of the study term to complement the end-of-term Course and Teaching Evaluation (CTE) exercise.  Students will be asked to provide feedback on the following two questions regarding satisfaction with the courses:

             (a)  What are the best aspects of the course so far?
             (b)  Which aspects are most in need of improvement so far?

  • The system will be opened for feedback collection from 28 September to 4 October, and for teachers to review the reports from 6 to 13 October 2023.
  • You are invited to (i) encourage students to provide their feedback during the feedback collection period, and (ii) review the reports during the report review period and, where appropriate, to follow up on any feedback for your course(s).
