从句：词义类别

下面我们将从意思的角度来考察从句。主要的意思类型通过下表说明：

这张表并没有包括所有可能的类型，但是确实说明了从句可以表达很多不同意思。

注意同一词可以引导不同的意思类型。例如，while可以引导时间从句.

I read the newspaper [while I was waiting]我一边等候一边读报纸

或者让步从句:

[While I don't agree with her], I can understand her viewpoint 虽然我不赞同她，我还是能够理解她的观点

同样，since这个词既可以表示时间:

I've known him [since he was a child] 自打他孩提时候起我就认识他了

又可以表示原因:

I borrowed your lawn mower, [since you weren't using it] 我把你的割草机借来了，既然你没在用它
