This laboratory is designed for researchers who require basic equipment and bench space to conduct molecular assays themselves such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time PCR, and preparation of libraries for next-generation sequencing. In view of cross contamination of PCR amplicons, genomic DNA and RNA is a great concern in a molecular biology laboratory, designated benches are allocated for conducting DNA/RNA extraction, PCR setup and post-PCR work. Users are responsible for routine decontamination and cleaning up benches after work. Meanwhile, the Core Utilities provides service on gel documentation, Sanger sequencing, DNA fingerprint analysis, GeneScan analysis and quality control on DNA, RNA and libraries for next-generation sequencing and quantification.
