Biography

Dr Wing Wai Yew graduated with M.B., B.S. from University of Hong Kong in 1974 (with prizes/ distinctions in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, pathology and microbiology). He held the Li Shu Fan clinical scholarship and Morse clinical scholarship from 1971-1974, during his undergraduate days. After graduation and training in the University Department of Medicine in Queen Mary Hospital, He obtained M.R.C.P (U.K.) in 1979, and was elected F.R.C.P. (Edinburgh) in 1988. He was head/ chief of service of Tuberculosis and Chest Unit, Grantham Hospital, Hong Kong from 1984 to 2010. He is currently the honorary professors in Department of Microbiology, and Stanley Ho Centre for Emerging Infectious Diseases in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is a visiting professor in medicine to the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases, as well as independent teaching consultant for the International Union against Tuberculosis and Chest Diseases. He is also temporary consultant to World Health Organization, Western Pacific Regional Office, on programmatic management of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. He has published 213 articles (indexed in PUBMED), and 16 book chapters, by January 2013.

Research Interest

A wide array of areas in tuberculosis, but especially in drug-resistant tuberculosis, regarding its epidemiology, clinical issues and laboratory investigations.
