are the main research activities in which the department has played a leading
role:
The department has established cohorts of elderly populations for observational studies and has investigated a number of issues in mortality, disability, common health problems, successful aging and active life expectancy in old age. The department plays a key role in research in women's health. Members of department particpate actively in activities of The Centre of Research and Promotion of Women's Health.

The department has initiated and collaborated in: morbidity survey on common diseases and complaints, (urinary tract symptoms and incontinence, allergic rhinitis), sero-epidemiology of Hepatitis A and B in adolescents, patients expectations, diabetes education, neurasthenia, women's health, continuing education for family practitioners, prescribing behaviour among practitioners and patients, inappropriate utilixation of health services and patient drug compliance for chronic illness.
