Course Description
The student will be assigned readings based on his individual
need as assessed by the head of department or his supervisor(s).
A minimum of two essays on selected topics shall be written and
submitted to the department for assessment. One of the essays may
be substituted by practical sessions illustrating important
concepts related to the Department's discipline; written reports
shall be submitted.

Course Description
This is a continuation course of MED 3810. The student will be
assigned readings based on his individual need. A minimum of two

Course List : Seminar I/II
Length of Study : 24/20 weeks
Course Description
For Seminar I, the student shall be required to read at least
four current articles from relevant scientific journals and
present a critical review to his supervisor and Department staff
as appropriate. In addition, students are required to attend
research seminars presented by Department staff and external
scientists for the purpose of widening their horizons. For
Seminar 2, the student will present the results of his Research
Project to an external examiner, his supervisor(s) and interested
staff of the Medical Faculty.

Course List : Research Project
Length of Study : 43 weeks
Course Description
This is a 2-term course. A research project is to be designed and
carried out under the guidance of a Faculty member or members.
The results of the project shall be formally written and
submitted in the form of a dissertation which must show clear
evidence of the student's original work. A viva voce will be
conducted by an external examiner, the head of department and the
supervisor(s).

Students will be assessed on their performance in the courses
listed above, and where the Department wishes, by a Written
Examination set by the Department, and covering topics relevant
to the Department's discipline, including the philosophy of
scientific investigation.

On completion of the Pre-clinical Programme, students may apply for admission to the one-year Intercalated Degree Programme in Medical Sciences. The aim of the Programme is to give those medical students with the affinity for medical research the opportunity to develop their interest at an early stage. In the 44-week Programme, students will normally be attached to a Department and undergo guided study, seminars, as well as receive instructions in research project design, culminating in carrying out a research project under supervision.
After satisfactory completion of the Programme, the student
shall be awarded the degree of Bachelor of Medical Sciences with
honours classifications and shall continue studies in the
Clinical Programme.
