with the focus on raising green awareness.
Being a campus-wide cultural diversity
cum voluntary service programme in which
local, mainland and overseas students
join hands in the provision of community
services to the needy people in the
society, CLOVER 2012-13 has recruited
80
students from 11 countries/regions, e.g.
Nigeria, Korea, Switzerland.
Comprehensive training was provided
to better prepare the participants for the
upcoming social service. On the kick-off
cum training day in early October, the line-
up included inspiring and sharing talks
from the Agency for Volunteer Service
and Green Sense. After getting to know
the theories of volunteering and how to
cultivate a green sense, the visit to the
HKFYG Organic Farm in Yuen Long in the
afternoon was a practical experience. For
example, the students had a healthy lunch
and tried making recycled paper.
During another training programme - the
two-day eco-camp on Cheung Chau, the
Green Orienteering” activity enabled
the students to explore the landmarks
related to green living and environmental
protection on the island. The “Seacoast

opportunity to appreciate the natural
seacoast, landscape and plantation on
Cheung Chau. Students were excited to
realize the importance of green awareness
in daily life through these activities.
Social service will take place from
December to March, after the Cantonese
lessons conducted by the local buddies
and the social gatherings. The students
will be serving one of the specific target
groups: the developmentally disabled, the
elderly, South Asian children or newly-
arrived children.
