The Third Territory-wide Growth Survey

This study was carried out in 2005 and 2006, involving 14,842 children aged 6 to18 years from schools located in the 18 districts in Hong Kong, with the primary objective of updating the weight status of Hong Kong school children in the 2000s.

This study indicated a further secular change in height, weight and BMI between 1993 and 2005-06, particularly among boys. It also documented a further increase in the prevalence of overweight (including obesity), from 5% in the 1990s to 16.7% in 2005-06, suggesting an advent of an obesity epidemic among Hong Kong children.
