Dong Qiao [real name C. C. Tung 董存爵] 1942-

Born in China, Dong graduated from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature of Taiwan's National Cheng Kung University in 1964, after which he came to Hong Kong. He went to Britain in 1973 to work at the BBC. Upon his return to Hong Kong in 1980 he joined the local print media, serving as chief editor of Ming Pao Monthly 明報月刊 and later Ming Pao 明報. He is now the publisher of Apple Daily 蘋果日報, a popular local newspaper. Dong Qiao is best known for his elegant prose. His essay collections include Baimiao 白描 [Sketches] (2004), which won the Hong Kong Biennial Awards for Chinese Literature (Essays), and the series Ying Hua chenfu lu 英華沉浮錄 [The ups and downs of Britain and China] (1996–1998).
