GE FEI 格非 [pen name of Liu Yong 劉勇] 1964-

Born in Jiangsu in 1964, is a prominent contemporary author of experimental avant-garde fiction. He received his Ph.D. from East China Normal University in 2000 and since then has been teaching at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Tsinghua University. His works have won him a number of awards including the Mao Dun Literature Prize; among the most applauded are the novellas ‘Mi zhou’ 迷舟 [The lost boat] (1987) and ‘Hese niaoqun’ 褐色鳥群 [A flock of brown birds] (1988), and the novel Renmian taohua 人面桃花 [Peach blossom beauty] (2004), the first book of his Jiangnan Trilogy 江南三部曲.
