Li Dou d.1817

A Qing dynasty playwright and poet born into a minor land-owning family near the city of Yangzhou. He was active during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795), gaining the xiucai degree and later living in and exploring Yangzhou, and writing songs and plays. His Yangzhou huafang lu [Painted barges of Yangzhou] (1795) provides much information on life in the city and also invaluable reference material on plays and opera music between the Yuan and Qing dynasties.
