Wang Siren 王思任(1574-1646)
Wang was a writer, painter, and politician in the Ming dynasty. He enjoyed travelling and wrote extensively about it; his essays, including those collected in Youhuan 游喚 [The summon of travels] and Liyou ji 歷游記 [Travelling journals], are praised for their acute observations and witty portrayals. An official at the Ming court and later at the Southern Ming one, he refused to accept Manchu rule, and starved himself to death after the fall of Shaoxing.
