Wu Jianren 吳趼人 1866-1910
Wu was one of the most prolific writers in the late-Qing period. He is best known for his novels and novellas, such as Ershi nian mudu zhi guai xianzhuang 二十年目睹之怪現狀 [Strange Events of the Past Twenty Years], Jiu ming qiyuan 九命奇冤 [Nine lives singularly unjust], and Hen hai 恨海 [Sea of regret], but he also published a large number of short stories that encompassed a wide range of language registers, subject matters, linguistic styles, and narrative approaches.
