Zhang Wei 張煒
Zhang was born in Shandong province in 1956, is a notable essayist, poet, and literary theorist. He has so far published nineteen novels, including the revolutionary work Gu chuan 古船 [The ancient ship] (1986) and the
ten-volume epic Ni zai gaoyuan 你在高原 [You are on the highland] (2010), which won him the Mao Dun Literature Prize in 2011, in addition to seventeen novellas and more than 130 short stories. He is currently the president of Shandong Writers’ Association and a vice-president of the China Writers’ Association.
