Xu Ning

The exact years of his birth or death are unkown, but Xu Ning must have lived during the reign of Tang Emperor Xianzong ˩v (r. 806-821). Xu is said to have had no ambition to pursue an official career. Instead he spent his time travelling and visiting friends, as is reflected in his poetry. In his old age he returned to his hometown in Muzhou (present-day Jiande, Zhejiang province) where he lived as a hermit, writing poetry. One volume (juan) of his poetry can be found in the Quan Tang shi [Complete poems of the Tang dynasty].
