Zheng Chouyu (Cheng Ch'ou-yu) [real name Zheng Wentao] 1933-
Contemporary Taiwan poet. Born in Shandong in Hubei, Zheng travelled widely with his father as a child. He went to Taiwan in 1949 and attended Chung Hsing University before leaving for the US in 1968 to study at the University of Iowa. He later taught Chinese at Yale University. One commentator has described his poetry as a fusion of vernacular and classical Chinese and has praised it for its coherence and lucidity.
