Project Site: Daheixin Village, Xiyang Township, Jinning County, Kunming City, Yunnan

       A set of effective sustainable technologies and methods has been developed for anti-seismic rammed-earth building in Yunnan after completion of two phases of house renovation projects in Dabaiyi Village. It gives a certain influence in the entire region of Xiyang Townshiip. The township government hopes to promote such technologies and methods by actual building project to other villages in order to extend the sustainable development in rural area of China. After several disucssion with the government officials, the team decides to carry out a demosntration project to build a multi-purpose activity hall (public hall) in Daheixin Village.

       Daheixin Village is surrounded by mountains with nice climate and good vegetation. Cultivated area and forest area is about 102 mu and 5,020 mu respectively. The village covers an area of 1,500 square meters. There are total 19 households with a population of 70 who are Yi people. Their life and customs are well preserved. Earth buildings in the village are mainly in timber structure with wooden beams and columns.

Aug 2020

After a COVID-19 outbreak was brought under control, the team had a site visit in Aug and found that the public hall was demolished. Foundation work was almost finished. Jul 2019 - 1st Investigation Trip

In early July, the team carried out an investigation trip to learn the function and situation of the existing public hall and its surrounding areas to do a simple mapping. Please click here to see the relevant work report (in Chinese version only)

Aug 2021

The project was almost completed in the end of Aug by a female construction team led by Ms Dong Yixiang. Once the hall completed, the villagers held a wedding ceremony and they all praised this newly built public space.

Feb 2021

After discussion with the local government officials, a local constractor team was hired by the local government to complete the foundation work in early Feb. The team planned to start the construction right after Lunar Chineses New Year adn complete the project before the rainy season.
