Project Site: Gaoliangdi Village, Xiyang Township, Jinning District, Kunming City, Yunnan

       Gaoliangdi Village is located at the boundary interface between Kunming City and Yuxi City, about 110km away from the city centre Kunming. Gaoliangdi Village is populated by mainly Yi and Hani minorities. The area has a population of 194 in 74 households. Located on a terrace, the village slopes down in steps from west to east. Most of the building are earth constructions in poor conditions with various types of damage.

       Gaoliangdi villagers visited Dabaiyi Village in December 2017 under the arrangement of Xiyang Township Government. They expressed strong interest in the new anti-seismic rammed earth house construction technology developed by the 1U1V team. Therefore, the team agreed to work out a two-year rebuilding plan for Gaoliangdi Village under the support of the local government in May 2018.

Aug 2020

After a COVID-19 outbreak was brought under control, the team met witih the township officilals. The The latest number of houses actually will be built is 44. The entire project will be constructed in three phases. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. Site levelling work has been started since August and is expected to be completed by October.

Jan 2020

During the past 6 months, the team finalized the construction of 61 rammed-earth village houses after several design plan meetings and discussions. In early 2020, the team also provided initial design options for the villagers and reached the consensus of the house area and its layout. Jun 2019

After discussion around a year, township government made a final decision to move the whole village to the east and renovate partially the old village for future tourism purpose. The team will be responsible for completing the construction of 71 rammed-earth village houses in accordance with the previous agreement. The design team of Kunming University of Science and Technology will adjust the whole village planning corresponding to the new requirements. Feb 2019

As a construction planning of the Kunming-Yuxi highway initiated by the Railway Construction Department of Yunnan Province, the village rebuilding plan was stagnant. Until Feb 2019, the plan entered into the discussion at a strong request by the villagers.

Sep 2018 - Initial Planning

In Sep, the team worked out an initial planning design for the whole village and discussed it with the local officials and villagers. After the meeting, more and more villagers living around are interested in this project and want to change their land use. It brings a land use issue to the local government which requires more time to deal with it. Thus, the project shall be delayed at least half a year. The site formation may start after June this year.

May 2018 - 1st Meeting with Township Government

On 5 May, the team had a meeting with township government and agreed to work out a two-year rammed-earth village rebuilding plan for the village. They also planned to conducted two survey trips before July and worked out an initial design layout plan before Sep.

Mar 2025

The inspection work was successfully completed.

Nov 2024

44 new houses have all been completed. The basic infrastructure, including roads and drainage, has also been finished, and the road surface and community work are progressing in order. Villagers are expected to move into their new homes by the end of this year.

Jun 2024

As of the end of June, all the earth construction, exterior door and window installation, and basic interior decoration work were completed. The overall project is expected to be completed by Sep 2024, meeting the handover standards.

Sep 2023

The main structure of 33 buildings were completed, and the rammed earth construction of one floor was completed for 9 households. The main construction phase of the entire project is expected to be completed in Jun 2024.

Jan 2023

Due to the anti-epidemic measures in the second half of last year, the project proress was slowed down. Until mid-Jan, the main construction for two demonstration houses was completed, and the construction work of the first floor of 17 houses was completed.

Jun 2022

Construction work for two demonstration houses commenced in Jun and expected to be completed in mid Sep.  Subsequently, the construction work for the rest of about 40 houses will begin. The entire project is expected to be completed in Jan 2023.

Feb 2022

All foundtion work of about 10 households were completed. however, the project was put on hold as the local government kept changing house design to reduce the overall construction cost for the project.

Jun 2021

The site formation work was completed and the construction plan was finalized as well. The construction team planned to start foundation work for the 1st phase of 15 households in the end of Jul. It is expected to be completed by late Oct.

Dec 2020

Unitl Dec, 80% of the site leveling work was completed, and it was expected to be completed in May 2021. Once the construction drawings will be finished in Apr, the construction work for three demonstration houses will be then carried out at the demonstration area which is located at the entrance of the site.
