Objective

       Earth construction has been one of the most important traditional architectural forms in rural areas of southwest China for a long time. The team believes that this kind of anti-seismic village house made of rammed earth can not only help the villagers who need to rebuild, but also be developed and promoted to other remote areas in the southwest. This way, more poor villagers can understand the feasibility and importance of anti-seismic village houses, and the protection and development of such excellent regional architecutre and its traditional culture. Therefore, the team plans to carry out a series of new earth building research, training, and practice in the southwest region. Our goals are:

  • To promote new anti-seismic architectural system in the southwest region.
  • To carry out continous artisan training and foster local construction team to improve the villagers' income and self-reliance.
  • To establish an earth building research and development centre in the southwest region, to carry out relevant research study, practice and academic exchanges, and to provide a scientific basis and support for national and local norms and policies.
