Duties of Safety Coordinator and Fire Warden During a Fire or Drill

  • Safety Coordinator: schedules fire drills in coordination with the University Safety Office, notifies relevant parties, assigns and briefs Fire Wardens, develops evacuation plans for persons with disabilities.
  • Fire Wardens review evacuation routes and assembly points, ensure accessibility of exits, and remind occupants about drill procedures and exit routes.
  • Execution duties of Fire Warden : Upon alarm activation, Fire Wardens initiate evacuation, monitor fire conditions, direct occupants to safety, check areas to inform evacuation, assist persons with disabilities / visitors, prevent use of lifts, monitor evacuation flow, conduct headcounts at assembly points, report missing persons, and provide feedback on safety issues. Re-entry is only allowed when certified safe.

Hot Work & Contractors

  • Any welding/cutting generates ignition risk—require hot work permits and supervise works. (Ref: EMO Hotwork policy)
  • If any FSI/E must be impaired for works, plan temporary measures and restore promptly.
  • Maintain documentation to support fire safety inspection.
