International Conference on Childhood Obesity (ICCO) 2008: Evidence and Practice from Exercise Science

The Department of Sports Science and Physical Education hosted the “International Conference on Childhood Obesity 2008: Evidence and Practice from Exercise Science” on 13-16 Nov 2008 (Thu to Sun) at LT1, Esther Lee Building on the CUHK campus. Officiating guests at the opening ceremony were Professor Jack Chun-yiu CHENG (Pro-Vice-Chancellor), Professor John Chi-kin LEE (Dean of Education), Professor Youlian HONG (Chairman of organizing committee of ICCO 2008 and Chairman, Department of Sports Science and Physical Education), Professor Yuen-sang LEUNG (Head of Chung Chi College), Professor Henry Nai-ching WONG (Head of New Asia College), Professor Stephen WONG (Dean of Students, United College), Ms. Bonnie KAN (College Secretary, Shaw College) and Dr. Patrick YUNG (Deputy Director, Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre).

At the conference, 6 international scholars from the United States, Australia, Japan, Taiwan and Mainland China, and 4 local scholars with expertise in the relevant disciplines were invited to deliver speeches. The conference has attracted more than 150 delegates from 18 countries, and 53 free paper presentations in oral and poster formats. The participants came from various disciplines and shared the most updated findings of childhood obesity from a holistic perspective. The conference also organized six workshops for all delegates to participate, which incorporated practical issues of exercise and nutrition to combat childhood obesity.
